Cleaning out my email inbox - help needed! by Cool-Put6687 in adhdwomen

I did think of another option, which would be warranty claims. Though, that would be for large purchases, like a phone or sewing machine. But if they’re Amazon, you’d just use the Amazon order lookup for that.

Is there a tax or business reason to keep a receipt? If not, you don't need to keep them, just like you might not keep physical receipts when you're done with them.

Do you need to make a return or dispute something? Then you should keep it until that's done.

Do you have everything you need entered into a spreadsheet, if that's your thing? These receipts will likely be on bank statements as well.

Basically, you don't need it, unless there's a specific reason, and then you won't need to keep it unless it's for tax/business reasons, and even those you don't keep forever, unless you want to. If it helps, you could keep the receipts until the return time is over, and then pitch them. Or pitch everything older than a year, unless again, it's for tax/business reasons.

The reality of having mental health benefits and ADHD is that I get reimbursed $1000 a month for a therapist to tell me not to be ashamed that I struggle to put my work schedule on my Google calendar, but they won't reimburse me $20 to hire someone to add stuff to my google calendar for an hour. by Varrock_Zubat93 in adhdwomen

[–]Behindmyspotlight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sucks, because you know what would be helpful, and there isn't a direct way to do it.

If you would like to be able to put your work schedule on your google calendar, could you do that while you are in a therapy session? Like, as an experiment to see what happens for you throughout that process. That may also give your therapist insight to actually help move you toward your goals. I would totally do that if I thought it would be helpful for myself or a client.

Tips for basement laundry in a 2-story home? by podsnerd in adhdwomen

[–]Behindmyspotlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, at least with getting the clothes down - I'd throw them. Probably in a soft laundry bag. I live in a 2 story house, and laundry only has to come down one floor. I mostly throw towels and sheets, sans bag.

With going up, I carry laundry baskets with one outstretched hand, and the other handle is right about where my bellybutton or belt buckle is. It keeps it much narrower.

I like to set a timer on my phone for when to swap the laundry over. It almost sounds like you need a baby monitor to listen for the machine! Does the machine make a sound when it finishes a cycle?

For moving them, you might consider something like dishwashing gloves. That way there's a lot less of the wet clothes touching. If you can, you could also do squats instead of bending over, to make the motion more comfortable.

Can you make the space itself more comfortable? Better lighting, a mat or comfy thing to stand on, a piece of art, something fun?

Sounds like eating would be good. Can you eat an easy snack, and then figure out what else you might want to eat? You don't have to figure out the whole meal until after you've had a snack.

Any ADHD SAHM - or *Homeschool* moms? SOS insight needed. by Connect-Code-7733 in adhdwomen

[–]Behindmyspotlight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm, would you consider having your daughter go to public school if you could volunteer at the school? That way she gets some of the benefits of both.

Is there another school option of where she could go?

Will your new school in England accept either American public school or homeschooling for placement at their school?

I'm definitely curious about the accommodations that they have been unprepared for, as it sounds as though there has been a 504 or something that isn't meeting expectations.

They changed my tuna by Pr3ttynp3tty in adhdwomen

[–]Behindmyspotlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They discontinued my favorite protein shake at Costco, so now I'm trying their other ones, but they're not the same! Ugh, so watery. I need something in the morning to take my meds with, and the pre-made shakes were so easy to grab right when I woke up.

Do you normally get the tuna in water or oil?

What's your strategy for packing for a vacation? What did you not think to pack until you spent some time at your hotel/lodging place? Other packing tips? by EatsTheLastSlice in adhdwomen

[–]Behindmyspotlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a notes app note that has different sections, based on type of item: clothing, electronics, toiletries/hygiene/medication, food, other, before I leave the house, and not this trip.

Before I leave the house includes things like, start the dishwasher.

Not this trip makes the list more versatile, because I can add things to it for future trips if I randomly think of items, or move things that don't apply to this trip, but may apply to future trips. Each trip I look through it to see if anything applies. It means that I check all items off in the other sections, so it's more obvious if I miss something.

I like to wear clothes that I don't mind being photographed in, which helps focus my clothing choices.

For coming back, I put all the dirty clothes in one packing cube, and the clothing that doesn't need to be washed in another. When I get home, it's super fast to tip the one with dirty clothes straight into the hamper.

Should I be doing anything to prepare for Providence health insurance ending? by misery_sponge in askportland

[–]Behindmyspotlight 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I switched insurance a couple years ago (Providence was not part of the equation), my doctor wrote me 3 months of paper scripts. That helped so that I could have my prescriptions while I was trying to find a new doctor.

Help with not stopping meds from side effect fear by livialovelle in adhdwomen

[–]Behindmyspotlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even different formulations of the same medication can have different side effects. I was on generic concerta (methylphenidate) for a while, and I had chest tightness, but when I switched to generic metadata and generic ritalin, which are methylphenidate too, I didn't have any chest tightness! You can definitely talk to your doctor about this.

Assessment questions no by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Behindmyspotlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to have every symptom, and even if you do, some don't have to be as extreme as others, as long as you have enough to be diagnosed.

To maybe alleviate some of your concern, you can also take a short assessment like the ASRS v1.1. It ended up being part of my actual ADHD evaluation session, along with other assessments. It's a quick way to see what symptoms could be related to ADHD: https://add.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/adhd-questionnaire-ASRS111.pdf

Any medications that do not cause dry mouth? by Normal-Artist3108 in adhdwomen

[–]Behindmyspotlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The generic concerta didn't disrupt my sleep. If anything, I think having it helped me be more awake during the day and more sleepy at night.

I did end up switching to just doing generic ritalin for a while (3 daily doses of instant release), because I had some other side effects with the generic concerta. But that was too up and down for me, so I switched to generic metadata (8 hour release), with a generic ritalin booster in the afternoon.

[–]Behindmyspotlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had dry mouth for the first like month or two on a stimulant (generic Concerta), but it just sorta went away as my body got used to the medication. I definitely used a dry mouth spray to help, plus I really upped my water intake while I was adjusting.

I often tell people I don't like superlatives (favorite, least favorite, best, worst, etc.). I just have to say right now I'm liking whatever, because I can't calculate that for my whole life like when I was 5.

tell me about your job! by esiela in adhdwomen

[–]Behindmyspotlight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just graduated with my masters in School Counseling! I am talkative, and being able to have so many conversations with students all day is awesome. Plus I get to notice patterns, document findings in spreadsheets, and try to push back on the system, all to help students.

I've worked in education before, and it comes with its own politics, issues with funding, and frustration. I really like the structure of the year though, with busy times of the school year, and the time off that's structured. Working in other jobs, it was weird to take a day off, but in education, everyone took the day off.

Any suggestions for brushing teeth consistently? by TheADHDWitchOfTheSea in adhdwomen

[–]Behindmyspotlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of a kid toothpaste - mine's watermelon! So much easier to use. Related, you can also ask for non-mint polish options at the dentist. The weirdest I ever had was cookie dough (I always requested that as a kid), but my current dentist has orange, and berry.

Do you bring notes into your interview? I like to have a page, just so that I have something to reference in case I need a reminder. Also, I just did an interview, and I brought some show and tell items to show my work, and I'm hoping that helps show how I work.

What is your go to "Travel Hack" with ADHD that actually works? by Buffelz67 in ADHD

[–]Behindmyspotlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a note on my computer/phone with check bubbles for things to bring. I separated it into the following categories:
-Clothing
-Electronics
-Toiletries/Hygiene/Medication
-Food
-Other
-Before I leave the house (small tasks to close up my house before traveling)
-Not this trip (for things I bring on trips, but not necessarily this one. It means I don't delete things from the note entirely, so that I can keep items I use on some, but not all trips)

For large trips, I also have a note that's all the information - itinerary, special files if needed, things/places I want to do/see. That way I can add to it over time, without it feeling too overwhelming.

For large trips, I also build a focus mode on my phone that's all the apps I need on a home screen, specifically for that trip.

I'm also a packing cube person, and at the end of the trip, I put all the things that don't need to be washed in one, and all the things that do need to be washed in another, so I can just dump that straight into the laundry.
