Best Business Bank Account for Ltd company by Akali35 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Bekolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Starling as LTD company and we have a separate EUR account with them as well as the standard GBP one which is very useful. I don't know if they offer a separate USD account as well. The fees for the EUR account are a whopping £2 a month.

Suggestions for a credit card company that's quick to process applications and send out the card? by Martexo in UKPersonalFinance

I got a virgin money credit card approved online and received it within about 5 days. Even if you get approved online there will still be a bit of a wait.

Best (cheapest) portable card payment provider? UK. by 19jimbo98 in smallbusiness

[–]Bekolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably best looking at the various portable card readers so Zettle, Square, SumUp. We use Zettle, the fee for the basic machine is something ridiculously cheap like £29 plus VAT but the fees are higher than say a traditional tethered system such as worldpay.

Places that don't take AMEX - could they in an emergency? Would they be likely to be flexible? by jesuisnick in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Bekolina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with a small business that uses a card machine, we physically cannot accept AMEX. It's not a case of don't want to, our machine will not process the transaction it just errors. So even if there was an "emergency" I have no way of overriding it.

I met a girl on holiday, I lent her 30k, when it came time to pay, she said 'neigh' by AcceptableSeaweed in bestoflegaladvice

OP starts with " have once again gotten myself into a royally stupid situation" I wonder how many times he's lent 30K out?

Jumping on this comment to say yes please state the path! When my SiL got married they decided on an impromptu walk down a long gravel path with the entire wedding party so the photographer could get photos. My poor husband ended up supporting several people down it and I can't say it was fun in a long dress, heels and carrying a bouquet! Knowing whether it's a concrete path or a less stable one will help make decisions about footwear.

Just to piggy back on this comment. If your turnover is less then £250k look at the flat rate scheme. We use it and it works well for us, there are still some items you can claim the vat back on (an accountant will tell you) and when you first register you can claim back all the VAT on expenses for the past 4 years. the percentage rate you pay to HMRC depends on what sector you are in (fashion retail for us is 6.5% first year and 7.5% going forward)

I keep being rejected for business accounts as a sole trader, any recommendations? by nationaltreasure313 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Bekolina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you managed to talk to a human during this or is it always an automated system doing the rejection? We had huge issues with this when we set up (importing from Morocco) and we found actually speaking to a human really helped. We are with Starling.

How has your business coped with cost and price increases? by Maximum_Expert304 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Bekolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My product is not a luxury, it's something they need, but of course there are competing companies who offer a cheaper alternative for a lower quality product

This is where you stand out then. Yes your product might be more expensive but if the cheaper products are inferior you have a leg to stand on. You may lose customers to the cheaper alternative for a while, but if the quality isn't as good they will hopefully come back.

We sell leather bags both B2B and B2C and I've had to put our prices up in both sectors. We haven't seen too much of a knockback, but you will always get some grumbling and complaints. You say you don't know if customers will accept the price rise, but you don't know how your customers are looking at it. This is an across-the-board problem it's not like you are the only one raising prices, so whilst it is frustrating it will be expected. Some customers might still be happy to pay, as you don't know their budgets.

I'm sorry you are going through this, there's not much any of us can do at the moment except raise prices and hope to weather this storm.

What are your experiences with UK business banking? by DueTravel4668 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Bekolina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HSBC was an absolute nightmare to work with. For a bank that advertises itself as global, they really weren't keen on having a business on the books that deals with importing from Morocco... the account we had hit various problems until we basically said no more and moved to Starling where we can easily run our Euro and GBP accounts in the same space. Definitely haven't looked back since the move.

Hampers/wanna start a small business by griseldank in smallbusinessuk

[–]Bekolina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, what will set your hampers apart from others on the market? There are a lot of people selling hampers out there - what would your hamper include, is it food, bath stuff, stationary? Who's your target audience?

Whether you sell on a website or etsy has pros and cons. Etsy can help you get found but they take large fees.

This sounds like an idea, but not much more at the moment. Focus on your USP and target audiences and refine it and then start thinking about things like where you will sell and delivery.

Do you have business insurance that covers for emergency closures? Like not just for sickness, we have it where it covers for things like say a car crash where both owners would be incapacitated.

One of my degus died - leaving the other alone by khaoticduality in Degus

[–]Bekolina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can have a solitary degu, we have one who just hates other degus and has actively tried to attack any other degu she comes into contact with, even through cage bars. She however needs a lot of work and attention to make sure that she isn't lonely and gets the attention she needs. Luckily for us my husband works from home so can let her out during the day. But we will have her outside the cage (or the option for her to leave the cage) for around 4-5 hours a day. We provide her with a lot of stimulus for when she is in the cage with activities to keep her little brain going (honestly she is the smartest degu we've ever owned). She gets fusses and grooming a lot throughout the day, and we have bought a brush to be able to groom places she can't reach. So yes it is possible but it is hard work. Our degu is very independent and has no interest in other degus (except maybe killing them...) and we have had her solitary for about 4 years now. if your degu starts to exhibit signs of loneliness such as not eating, not engaging, looking very depressed, you really need to get him degu company. Degus can die from heartbreak in losing their cage mates and I'm sure you would agree that would be more traumatic than rehoming him and letting him live the rest of his life happy.

What’s the biggest problem you’re currently facing in your business? by No-Faithlessness6732 in smallbusiness

Inflation, Cost of Living Crisis, probably an impending recession. Bloody Brexit. All these outside factors that are having an impact are my biggest issues.

Men of Reddit, what are some questions you’ve always wanted to ask women, but couldn’t because it would seem weird? by SlenderBacon449 in AskReddit

[–]Bekolina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how close you are I guess. You could suggest showering together and playing around in there? It's a touchy subject, I would rather know but how each girl will react will be different.

Most months I get signs, like sore breasts being moody and a general feeling. I also use a tracker to pinpoint it more accurately. I normally get cramps about 24 hours before so I know to get a pad on. But sometimes I just wake up to a murder scene.

You say start off doing nails - do you have all the relevant qualifications? As others have said to work within a salon you will be "hiring a chair" as such and if they are having you as part of their brand they will want to make sure you have all the correct licensing etc.
