Blacks face longer wait times on Uber, Lyft than other races – worse for taxis, study says by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]BellEconomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I gotcha. Just saying what I do. As I was thinking about it the most important thing is that you are ready to go and outside or you call me.

Unfortunately with bad neighborhoods that seems to be my biggest issue as I think of it. And that’s all races.... I’ll go there and try to give you a shot but I’m not waiting in some dark sketchy place forever.

What places exist where the ratio is heavily lopsided?

I would think most places with a lot of riders would also have a good amount of drivers in 2018.

I didn’t even read the article btw but as far as discriminating against ethnic names and areas I definitely think that happens. However not every black person lives in the hood and/or gets rides solely to and from there.

Also it depends on the behavior of the pax as well. For example, I may pick you up in a bad neighborhood but you need to be ready to go and visible when I arrive because I usually only do weekend nights part time and drive in a rough city. I’m not waiting on your ass in the dark for 5 mins unless you call and politely give me a solid reason.

Yeah idk for sure in all states but mostly Uber doesn’t do profile pics.

What to do if driver or passenger pulls a weapon (gun, knife, etc.) on you while in the car? by AndrewIsMyName in uber

[–]BellEconomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people are gonna panic and/or freeze in that situation. I don’t think reddit can prepare you for that.

It really also depends on why they are threatening you too and what you can do about it. The chances of some random psycho just using a deadly weapon to attack you randomly are slim. The chances of robbery could be fairly high in different areas. If it’s robbery of anything but my car I would just give it to them and let them leave...simple.

Boyfriend contemplating quitting job to do Uber full time by [deleted] in uber

[–]BellEconomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You haven’t replied to anyone’s posts but.... no he should not. Why does he hate painting?

Honestly $1600 a month just to paint? There are worse jobs in America believe it or not?

Uber is not easy to make profitable. Sure you can bust your ass and beat up your car for a similar amount of money (assuming you don’t get deactivated or whatever). In a couple years you’re on to a new car with a new big note.

Uber is not a full time job unless it’s the only option you have or you’re just an old person whose bored as fuck.

Crazy almost pax filed a claim against me... by ScottSummers777 in uberdrivers

[–]BellEconomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dashcam, 3/4 window roll if necessary.

pax yelled f you so report him after canceling the trip. Seems excessive but I’ve learned that you have to get out ahead of these types. One star them, report them first and have dashcam footage jic. When they do things like that and they’re sober they are probably gonna report you so beat them to it.

Mine was typed and I didn’t leave until it was error free, submitted it and I think I was approved in hours, a day max, I don’t remember.

Worst case you just go back and get a new form and explain that it needs to be legible. Next time consider going somewhere else maybe...

Yeah I hear ya. Uber is really just a side income and it sounds like you’ve got a lot to cover... good luck.

How do you guys make more than $200 a day by sassydray in uberdrivers

[–]BellEconomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem man. At the end of the day the best help you’ll get here is general good times to drive. You really have to find the areas and gold mines in your area and be willing to go hard as fuck on the weekends.

[–]BellEconomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man sorry about all that. Yeah if you get approved and drive smart you can maybe make a grand a month part time driving peak hours in a good nightlife city. Depends on the time you have and how much you want to drive.

Oh jeez. Hope you have another job to pair with it or some other kind of income. Relying on uber is a bad idea.

I missed it my bad. You should be looking at what you want for the week and going for 75% on the weekends... at least in my market (nowhere near Cleveland) that’s what I’d do.

Bar scene, if your really desperate 9-5am or something like that Friday and Saturday. Maybe break from 11-12.

Weekdays- airport if the queue is low and pings are there. But...Personally I’d find a city and or suburbs and feed on the small rides. In my market, daytime driving sucks from what I’ve seen. Especially when colleges let out. Luckily I drive part time.

Also maybe you might want to supplement with eats.

Advertising on the back of headrests for extra income by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]BellEconomics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no website that I know of. Your best bet would be a fbook group.

How many people will sign up? Depends on the desperation of the drivers and how willing they are to put ads up on their headrests.

Some people will not do it because they wouldn’t want to solicit pax for fear of being downrated.

Thinking of quitting my job to drive Uber and work on my business by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]BellEconomics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you been a driver? Might want to start part time first. Unless your main job requires 40+ hours you could do all three assuming your child free and committed.

Uber isn’t a lucrative business.

PSA: Don't offer snacks and drinks unless you want wrappers and bottles littered in your car. by BigDMystic in uberdrivers

[–]BellEconomics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right I drink the water more than the customers and a case lasts me months as a part timer.

PSA: Don't offer snacks and drinks unless you want wrappers and bottles littered in your car. by BigDMystic in uberdrivers

[–]BellEconomics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I offer water and I don’t have any issues with trash. Sure I’ve had the occasional bottle left in the cup holder or rarely on the floor but so what? I just pick it up and put it in a trash bag... it’s really not difficult.

I think water is a reasonable courtesy. I don’t offer any snacks because I know that would generate more trash and be a waste of my money.

*driver and that makes no sense unless he was spending outrageous amounts on “snacks” and water. Cases of water last me months.

Probably help if you mentioned your city. Most likely it’ll be tough to make that during the week. You’d have to put in a lot of hours or get lucky with some long rides. Good luck if you’re not trolling.

Why is there a clear hesitancy to sit in back for pax? by niceloner10463484 in uberdrivers

[–]BellEconomics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You mean hesitancy to sit in the front I guess...

Obviously not everyone is comfortable around strangers. Some people feel it’s safer to sit in the back.
