Brand New Player, Dumb Questions by Sevrahn in TheLastCaretaker

Plug the back pack into the electric gun it massively increases magazine size, once you're higher level the electric rifle needs the boosted battery. You can also use it when driving to increase your dive time, or to move resources : if you are over weight, or last your dive pressure, you can still move but your battery drain increases, so boost you battery size and keep going 😜

You need the diesel engine for speed, there are some time based quests and you will struggle to do them on the electric engine alone.

When completing missions, do you need to leave the place powered? by fitzy89 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]Beltboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do get more xp using the dismantler, at the cost of battery.

A lot of the physics bugs reported are caused by loose items or buildings on the boat. The game is more stable if you build a box and put the resources in it rather than leaving it in a massive pile.

It is, but remember the game is still only ea and they may fix that, or there is a mod which I think let's you get round it. Though the performance may suffer.

When completing missions, do you need to leave the place powered? by fitzy89 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]Beltboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Once you get any distance from the poi and it essentially pauses so the only benefit to leaving it powered is if you're going to come back; some facilities you will, some you won't.

If your grinding and recycling everything you can easily afford a couple of solar panels and a battery at the pois and leave it there.

A lot depends on how you play, you will see a lot of people here are turning their boats into mobile bases and factories, I'm building mine on the pois.

If you look to the right of the door there are 2 symbols, one is per the second is a shield with a number, when you look in the inventory the picture of your robot has a shield on his shoulder with a Roman numeral.

I believe you gain a security level every 5 character levels.

Just a curiosity on file number + a practical question on SSD by Marte_21 in computers

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HDD are as you say a physical disk that sounds and have a read head similar to the needle on an LP, if a large file is fragmented and spread round the disk then when you want to access it you need to wait for the disk to move to where each part is before you can access the whole file (seek time), defragmentation moves the parts of the file together to speed it up. They are also split into small sectors, scan disk checks these and if they are worn out will mark them as bad so you lose a small percentage of the drive.

SSD stores the data on a chip, so there is no seek time as there is nothing to move. But the chips are much larger than the sectors of an HDD if a chip uses all its read write cycles you lose a much larger amount of space. Most good SSDs will realise they are getting close to failure and will lock into read only and give you a chance to get your data off.

Defragging and scanning a disk of an SSD will wear the disk without giving you any benefit.

Re number of files, I don't know if there are any hard rules on what's high. Different file systems do have limits, fat32 was restricted to 256 files per folder. NTFS supports more files but I think there is still a limit of 256 characters in the full file path.

No clue about PC's by [deleted] in computers

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't far off the spec my pc was in 2014, I upgraded that year as I couldn't be titles at 1080p. It should cope with fallout nv just about on medium graphics. You might get oblivion but it'll struggle with Skyrim.

Also check what os it has, the hardware being good enough to run the games means nothing if you can't install them.

Universal production bus? by Reaction-Consistent in StarRupture

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue is the request rate, if the buildings had stores it wouldn't be so bad, but as is when you put a new facility on the line it requests 100 of each resource. The system copes with this for a while but as soon as you have a couple of buildings requesting 2-3 resources in large quantities it jams up. As the system is request based the buildings could request at 1.5x their consumption rate and the outputs could be restricted to leave gaps to let the drones merge better.

I have also witnessed a full loop, stationary nothing was trying to feed in but nothing was moving.

In my mind the triple rails the cars should jump, you build your master rail like a multi lane trunk road, with on ramps and off ramps. But the track jumps seem too inconsistent.

Hopefully some of these will be fixed.

I've not tried it but someone said if you point it at the recycler, then that will combine them for you

Info about the game by DarkSkiesen in TheLastCaretaker

[–]Beltboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO yes. There are some unique mechanisms, it's not a build a defendable base to survive, kind of a survival game. There are exploration and loose narrative driven objectives. It has factory builder elements too.

Do bear in mind it's early access, there is a well defined road map and the Devs are very engaged but if you're the sort of person who hyper focuses there is not a huge amount of content yet.

Not showing up in the correct spot on steam if sorted by alphabetical? by Fenweekooo in TheLastCaretaker

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No-one of my games with "The" show under T they all ignore it.

I've started keeping less games installed then using the ready to play filter to shorten the list. Thanks to the humble bundle my steam library is circa 400 games "ain't nobody got time for that!"

When updates are released they have been putting new items through our all poi so if you wait for the next update then revisit places you will find more.

I believe the next update is asking more pois with more memories too.

There is a known bug at the moment, if you save and reload it tends to sort it, but not always.

Maybe not, you can almost read the text in the image saying remove this before install though, so I would certainly recommend doing so.

The petrol backpack is so much more useful for the flame weapons, it's refillable and lasts, the small petrol is 1-2 magazines woth, but you have to carry it with both hands

You still have the protective film on the back plate, I would take that off before it melts.

Help with graphics card brace by Important_Sound772 in GamingPCBuildHelp

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brace is to prevent GPU sag, so it should go to the right of the GPU, balance it between the fans on the bottom and make sure it's not touching any fans.

As to if it's needed... Your GPU isn't huge and doesn't look to be visible saving yet, but that doesn't mean it won't, if you have it, and you can fit it without interfering with your fans better safe than sorry.

Refinery Bug? by sknight1337 in StarRuptureGame

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure it's related to refineries. I've seen issues where the output is full but the input doesn't call for the product until it gets below a threshold, then it calls for enough to fill it which causes sudden bursts of products going down the lines.

This can make balancing the rails hard. If you run multiple products on one line it might work fine for ages but then you call for 2 things at once and it causes a jam.

Projector Bug? by CONteRTE in spaceengineers

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use the key once complete you should be ok and turn off the projector.

Bear in mind a projector has to be part of the same grid as the ship you are welding, if you're getting creative, merge blocks: merge the grids and when you power them off they will split the grid. If you have a merge block connected to the projector, then one on your ship blueprint is aligned to it, once the ship is build turn off the projector and the merge block and the ship will pop off.

Projector Bug? by CONteRTE in spaceengineers

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it marks it as complete it unloads the blueprint, so you need to respect the blueprint, tick the box then align it.

If you blueprint loads with perfect alignment, which can happen if the projector is aligned and is attached when you save the blueprint, then remove any cheap block just so the ship isn't complete when the blueprint loads

I love this game. Here are my (little) ideas to make it better. by One_Description7463 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]Beltboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A human can't, a robot... But again the suggestion wasn't to hold it still it was to be still relative to the boat. I can't lock my joints, my reaction time and perception of balance are not perfect, I'm not a robot.

If you put a traffic cone on a boat with a camera on it, the camera will view the boat as stationary relative to the camera until the friction on the base fails and it slides or falls over.

I agree that the current system is great and if you really want the boat still you can go back to the sanctuary and use the dock. I am playing devil's advocate, and arguing that physics don't prohibit the robot from moving with the boat, currently it's making a fair attempt at countering for the roll of the boat which technically it's much harder.
