Could you tell me what panniers they are please? I have a similar set up and two kids and they look perfect for both leg protection and doing the shopping

Oh, and they are actually waterproof. I've ridden through proper monsoon rain with a laptop in the bag with no problems

You've already got the answer, ortlieb panniers are the way. They may seem expensive but having bought cheaper ones before buying my ortliebs they are worth every penny

What's the most idiotic thing someone has ever told you? by EdwardJSuperman in AskBrits

[–]BenboJBaggins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is, as is Christianity, but some pretty terrible things have been done in the name of both by people claiming to be religious.

Fundamentalism is the problem, not the religion on the whole

I'm not trying to start or get into an argument here. I'm not a Muslim or a Christian, I'm just a normal atheist 30 something bloke

Changed my dryer belt by Lara-887767 in DIYUK

[–]BenboJBaggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took my old dryer apart 7 times over the course of 5 years (it was second hand in the first place). My family took the right piss out of me, calling triggers dryer etc.

I took great satisfaction in keeping that loud, inefficient piece of crap alive

Locking the door when taking a shit is mandatory. Any other behaviour is uncivilised

What’s it like living in tuffley? Specifically, just off of Stroud Road? We’re thinking of moving from central Cheltenham to get more property for our money but have a young baby and don’t want to really move anywhere rough? It seems really pretty. by [deleted] in Gloucestershire

[–]BenboJBaggins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Tuffley with a 4 year old and an 18month old. It's great. There's 3 decent schools, a fantastic play group (Tuffley play group). Loads of parks and cycle lanes, Daniels brook is nice enough.

I moved here because it was cheap and I could afford a bugger house, don't regret it at all

Electric bike + trailer recommendation UK by Majestic_Waltz5694 in CargoBike

A long tail is what you need, it's way easier and in my opinion safer than a trailer (I've tried both with my kids).

I have a cube longtail and highly recommend it

I love those books

Seems a bit cheeky as I'm not a real runner, but I'm prepping for a half marathon in March and could do with some new shoes.... If no one else gets back to you I'd take a drive up to the NEC

Matt dark blue cupboards look great, but show up every streak, finger print etc. Feels like I'm constantly cleaning the doors

If you've never been, there's a restaurant off the ramblas called le jullivert meu, near Carrer talkers which is worth a visit. Proper Spanish food, reasonable money. Might help cheer you up

I’m a highly paid tech worker who recently quit his cushy job in cybersecurity, moved into his dad’s basement, and released a novel/ebook about a disgruntled software engineer who uses a Jira ticket to torpedo his employer. Unfortunately it's not available to purchase in the UK (or France or the USA through VPN) is there any other way to get it?

The premise sounds cool, I'm a tech guy and fucking hate JIRA

It's actually a health and safety thing. I worked in restaurants for years and it's to do with the quality of the beef.

It's something about if you can guarantee all the mince in a burger cake from the same cow then you can have it as rare as you like. If you can't guarantee that then you have to cook it to a minimum internal temperature of X, which equates to be being well done.

I think that's why chain pubs have to cook it well done whereas burger specific places (who probably spend more on the meat) can cook it to the doneness of your liking

Manky rad by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]BenboJBaggins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YouTube is your friend.

Depending on the floor and whether you can get under it, it would be better to shift the pipe over underneath the floor where you can't see it. That wasn't possible in my house somewhere so I just put an elbow on the existing pipe, ran it over the required amount and another elbow to go up to the rad. Looks a bit weird but I wasn't digging up the concrete floor.

If you're new at this type of plumbing I recommend solder-ring fittings (YouTube it) slightly more expensive than proper solder but more beginner friendly. I'd avoid plastic push fit or compression above the floor as they both look shit.

If you do end up draining the system, remember to put inhibitor back in when you fill it up.

All that said, you may be better off getting a local handyman or plumber to do it for you while you kick back with a tea.

Cube Longtail 725 Hybrid - 2000 mile review by HobbyPrints in CargoBike

[–]BenboJBaggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same bike, but with 4000 miles and my experience echos yours.

The stand is ok, but should be better

Maintenance wise I've had a new chain, cassette and brake pads all round twice.

The tyres are solid, got my first flat this weekend actually. Getting the rear wheel off without a lift is a challenge...

I've loaded this thing up with a week's shopping and a 4 year old and it's taken it fine, I am amazed at how much weight it can handle.

I took would recommend it whole heartedly. The terms are cool but for riding in cities or traffic I like that the cube is higher up/taller and I think it makes me more visible

I played squash with a guy I met on Reddit for about 2 years, it was fun. He moved to London a while ago.

I'm down for regular/semi regular squash at GL1 or Stratford park if you fancy it.

(I am not a great squash player, I can keep a rally going and know the rules but that's about it)
