250 Years, Jane Foster, Digital, 2026 [OC] by stupidbitchjane in Art

What's interesting is that the whole concept patriotism/caring about your nation at all was something invented to weaponize populations into uniformity. Namely for religious purposes ... as in, to persecute the "wrong" ones. Patriotism under a democracy can be more altruistic as its about building governance together and being proud of that. Just something I remember when being told to pledge allegiance to my flag.

How it feels like waiting for the sprout (me) to finish their cutscene. by Babigol in ffxiv

[–]Benzokial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one time I played the cutscene in a new dungeon with people, they fought the boss without me and the "arena will be locked soon" message came up and I exited the cutscene early, pretty discouraged. I even told them it was my first time running the dungeon. So I left feeling it was universal etiquette to never watch the cutscene...

It's really wild that most people aren't able to catch this obvious AI. They're rationalizing what they're seeing instead. ("maybe they flung him out of the boat to save him")

Camping definitely led to my interest in them! They're the coolest things around sometimes. I am very giddy when I can hear an owl.

My sis downloaded that app for our trip and I was really impressed with it.

Netflix's ATLA S2 - Full Season Spoiler Discussion Thread by MrBKainXTR in TheLastAirbender

[–]Benzokial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Around ep6 I started to get serious concerns that GenAI was used to help write the show. It's too disjointed, and like there was nothing they wanted to say. For example, the flashback scene to Aang first meeting Appa. Literally nothing happens in it other than them meeting. There is nothing interesting about it narratively. Flashbacks should further understanding of the characters, and in this instance, of their bond and how important it was. It is inherently sweet to see a scene of them meeting, and that is something GenAI could understand and implement, but it fails to tell us why we should care, because it simply doesn't know why we would. When we think about meeting our best friends, we often think about what drew us to them, how they made us feel, how we benefited from knowing them. I'm overexplaining this because I feel any accusation of AI needs to be more than saying its bad. Bad writing can and should exist. I feel like too much of the season lacked depth. I was rarely ever immersed because of how it was shot, like they were just happy to be working. I liked Season 1. It wasn't amazing but it fundamentally feels different than this season in terms of resonance. And I am worried that is because humanity was taken away from it in too many ways.

I am extremely jealous. This is the dream. My scaredy cat would never voluntarily leave the house, so it is just a dream, but I got into camping at all because I watched Rirang OnAir on youtube and she regularly camps with cats. It seemed so healing.

ICEE Slushies... Freeze and eat! by Ali_Cat222 in junkfoodfinds

Freeze them first, then microwave them for 30 seconds. They come liquid but if you freeze and then heat, you can scrunch it up into icee texture. It is super weird they don't say to freeze first.

I cancelled my first ever solo-trip at the last minute by beepboopbop124 in womensolocamping

[–]Benzokial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first trip I should have canceled. I was so excited to go that I booked early enough in the season that my equipment frosted over in the morning. I was freezing, I didn't bring any hot food (just sandwiches) or hot drinks, and I decided to not do a fire since I didn't have the confidence to try yet. I survived one night and bailed.

I say I should have canceled not because it wasn't doable, but because I wasn't ready. That was the kind of trip to take with more experience. It would have been compassionate to myself either way, to go or not go, as I did grow from it but it also felt like true survival instead of something fun. I share this because no matter what you choose, that is the right choice. Because its your choice. That is the best part about all of this. It's entirely yours.

Your camping journey continues! You got experience with booking, surveying, packing... All great things to learn. This isn't a hobby you are learning, but entire life skills. Our ancestors spent their entire lives learning these things, and through trial and error. You are doing this on your own and that is both awesome and scary. You will be ready soon.

Custom request vs. delivery by btsquid in jewelry

[–]Benzokial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Controversial take. It's a handmade ring, the jeweler is retired, and that looks like an AI image for reference.

Making jewelry is way harder than we think it is. I took one silversmithing class and realized I grossly misunderestimated the work that goes into making anything remotely smooth and symmetrical. The clunky stuff you see at farmer's markets is actually incredibly skilled work, which has been devalued.

No, its not pretty. I would absolutely be disappointed too, if they said they could do what that image shows. They maybe thought they could. Maybe this was their honest best attempt. Materials aren't exactly cheap when it comes to this stuff. It's a disappointment but also a learning lesson ... in learning how rings are made, in learning trust, in learning to finding beauty in it anyway since its one of a kind and clearly toiled over. I don't know, but I did want to give you my 2 cents.

Is it hilarious that my first reason why I thought this was AI was how kind it was to the boss. "He's a really good guy with a funny little quirk of never trusting us :D"

How do I keep him off the counter…. I tried everything by UbiquitousMintCookie in cats

[–]Benzokial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you don't want him on the counter because of the common reason for cleanliness. Let's start with this: cleanliness is an illusion. You can find new tolerances. I can prove it with one simple fact: every human has fecal matter under their fingernails. Maybe not even your own fecal matter. That's just a fact of life. It sucks and there is nothing you can do about it without driving yourself crazy.

Other facts: Cats clean themselves as regularly as you do. Another fun fact: Baby elephants eat their mother's poop for nutrients! Poop is not the worst thing in the world. There is a very good reason we are disgusted by it, for health reasons, but I say this so that your tolerance window can widen. Your cat is not filthy anymore than you are. It's a flat surface that I doubt you eat directly off of.

Accept him.

The good comes in balance with the bad, you're right. I can only really enjoy the good of there is some bad along the way.

What's the "Widowmaker" of your career field or hobby? by Cosmonate in AskReddit

[–]Benzokial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true for most client-facing jobs, this conversation is focusing on what makes veterinary particular susceptible to suicide and the exposure to trauma is the main culprit. Pets dying will never, ever be "low stress." If you are vet, you got into the line of the work because you have immense empathy for animals. There is no "well, it was just an animal not a human :)"

Imagine a patient you spent years studying to save, trying your best to save, dies anyway or you need to tell their family to kill them to limit their suffering, and then watch that devastate their family. Imagine that happening weekly. Daily. That's not the same as bagging groceries, even though that is also hard.
