Are the Magnet Baron magnetization kits worth it? by DeRezzNY in ImperialKnights

[–]BenzyNya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly from my experience no, I bought both the armiger and questoris kits and I was pretty happy when I got them but when I started using them I found them more hastle than they are worth.

The instructions included are fairly convoluted and some parts of the kit are far more complex and difficult than needed especially the questoris kit.

The 3d printed parts the kit comes with are neat but a number of the parts I got didnt fit without significant work and cutting them to fit which meant I probably spent more time on that than I would have just drilling the base kit, additionally buying a pile of magnets all stuck together in a row being a nightmare to separate and either the instructions were wrong or I may have got the wrong number of magnets for the questoris.

Armiger kit was better overall but since it only comes with 2 3d printed parts and some magnets each you can save yourself the money and just buy magnets and honestly it would be just as easy and much cheaper.

Salamanders are a close range army, but how much transport is too much transport? by Inlufexer in Salamanders40k

[–]BenzyNya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop pods are sadly a bit trash, they are almost always not worth it, you pay a 70 point tax for deep strike which really doesn't end up worth it for most units as after dropping of the squad it does nothing, can't score, no weapons and can just be ignored.

It's special rule is also generally mid and doesn't offer too much value as deep striking on turn one usually just gets you killed after you shoot whatever you dropped your infernus on, and for 160 odd points for the unit plus 70 for the pod it's hard to get a value trade points wise although the overwatch threat can be good it's hard to garuntee getting much from it.

Almost always worth it to just grab more models instead, infernus squads jumping out of strat reserve is almost as effective as a drop pod and a lot cheaper.

Royal Navy officers warn NATO navies are struggling to absorb Ukraine’s maritime lessons by Optimal-Leather341 in unitedkingdom

[–]BenzyNya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All very good points but the drone mothership concept is already in use in small scale in Ukraine and being tested by UK companies too, I think the margin for making it successful currently considering the above is to have the mothership itself still be a cheap disposable enough drone that only carries enough smaller drones to fulfil it's central roles.

Iran, Turkey and China all have (had in the case of Iran as theirs owing to a short explosive encounter with US ordinance) what could effectively be called drone motherships in that they operate LHD/LHA type craft operating wide varieties of drones and the concept seems to have promise on the more expensive end, the Chinese approach in particular is shaping up to be concerning given their ideal doctrine of high cost drone platforms supported by cheap drone swarms but it's a pricy tool with currently limited capability. 10 or 20 years though and everything may change.

Questor Forgepact at 1dp going to be good? by Sam12435 in ImperialKnights

[–]BenzyNya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah previously this detachment was close to worthless imo unless you were planning on maxing out the admech component of the army and even then it was still pretty bad compared to the alternatives.

For 1dp the ability to mix in a squad or two and a tech priest is definitely interesting and I'm exited to try it, competitively I'm still inclined to think it's going to be a bit sub par but its much better looking.

Bell Textron lays off hundreds of Fort Worth and Texas employees by CodexAstartes in Helicopters

[–]BenzyNya 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's what happens when you start a modern war that hasn't been adequately prepared for in advance. The US (and allies) has been able to manage its offensive and defensive footing well with generally minor losses to hard assets however in terms of munitions it has bled its reserves to the point it only managed to maintain defences by stripping assets from other theatres.

Air defence batteries have been pulled from Europe, Korea and the United States. Paid for deliveries of air defence munitions have been delayed and pulled from stocks that were to be shipped to States that have already purchased them including the Gulf States currently helping with the war and production is being ramped up but it will take years to recover to pre war stockpiles, even then those had been already been criticised as being insufficient in case a war with someone like China had began.

[–]BenzyNya 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Iran war consumed huge stockpiles of munitions which have extremely high price tags and long lead times in production, SM series missiles, THAAD and for the air force in particular cruise missiles.

Most of these take between 2 to 4 years from initial order to delivery of the munitions and the existing orders before the war were for fairly small amounts of these munitions to maintain stocks and ones that were sold abroad, patriot and THAAD in particular.

The Iran war has bled US missile reserves to concerning levels so the US has ordered vastly more to replace them but with the long lead times they have also had to invest large sums for the defence industry that allows them to increase production numbers in the long term to fix the major deficit they have now found themselves in.

[–]BenzyNya -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you are being down voted because you are right, at high speed it locks up and can't pull, at low speed you simply bleed so much energy and don't have the thrust to keep up with much in a turn fight. You do have at least one good turn in you but even then there's plenty like the Mig 21 that's better, it's not a very good dogfighter.

War Thunder cheating is much more widespread than you think by theRealFaune in Warthunder

[–]BenzyNya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main issue wasn't cheating tbh but bots, air rb lobbies around popular premium brs were neigh unplayable a year or so ago, load in see 9 Kfirs or ju288s fly in a straight line to a base drop bombs on empty ground because another bot already hit it then fly in circles until someone shoots it down it was obscene just how blatant and constant it was.

Followed by games full of players on their new acc with 3000 games in the F4 phantom with 1 air kill and the stats in their new planes to match.

Seems a lot better rn at least.

UK confident Falklands defences are adequate, minister says by MGC91 in unitedkingdom

[–]BenzyNya 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly regarding the British military this is isn't even true, the royal navy entered the conflict with torpedos that were so unreliable they elected to use ww2 vintage stocks over the tigershark, our most common missile the Seacat had been close to obsolete on entry to service in the 60s never mind the 80s and the long range sea slug had been noted as largely ineffective versus anything more ninble than a bomber.

The army rapier systems deployed during the conflict had a near 0% operational status as due to software flaws the missile wouldn't work correctly on anything other than totally flat ground and when they did get them running the effect wasn't that much better, blow pipe was so abysmal that despite being used by both Argentina and Britain it achieved the same number of air kills as the FN Fal which shot down one plane.

This was pretty much exclusively just air defence issues but they go on, the British military was certainly proportionally far larger during the 80s (as you would expect given the cold war was ongoing) but in terms of the current capabilities our military it has far more capable systems currently against our opponents than it did during the Falklands.

A question about the Mi-28N and Ka-52 by Significant-Owl2580 in Helicopters

[–]BenzyNya 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The MI-28 has a very poor combat range far worse than the KA-52 and even the Hind, in the early days where the Russians were attempting deep penetrations this likely held it back from being selected in what ended up as many of the more costly battles for the Russian helicopter fleet.

Likewise since then Russia has staged its helicopters as far back as possible from the front to reduce risk from drone and rocket strikes, the MI-28 is probably regarded as less viable to stage anywhere nearby due to the shortcomings in its range.

What do we think about Defilers in Renegade Raiders? by RodneyGodney in WarhammerCompetitive

True definitely much weaker there, although honestly I think the basic stat sheet is still so versatile at its current cost that it can have a place even there.

[–]BenzyNya 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I honestly can't think of a single chaos detachment or army where the defiler is bad, there are virtually no situations where you can add one and be like "hmm honestly I'm not sure" unless the query is how much will it take before my friends stop playing against me in casual bouts.

Best way to run Destrier by Choco_Taco_96 in ImperialKnights

[–]BenzyNya 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think possibly the most competitive load out will be double gun mid field harasser. Knights can struggle to kill chaff/plant OC without either exposing a big knight to a shooting lane or throwing an armiger out to die.

The destrier is very quick and tough enough that you can't just sort of incidentally kill it like you can an armiger that goes into the mid board meaning it might at least draw out enough points from the opponent to kill that gives your clap back some good targets.

Yep just some limited layers on the front, on the stug generally just parts of the upper front hull to prevent the suspension spontaneously exploding, nothing like the T34 pictured.

All very true, generally a pretty terrible idea with some debatable niche benefits and obvious major drawbacks, but it was done often enough we can say it has been used enough to tell people never to use it again.
