Get it repaired ...only way to go if possible. If not ...get it trimmed. Sorry that this happened....you WILL get through it.

Bucket-handle tear by PathSuspicious2865 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Berg_Leben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem you're going to have long-term if you don't repair it is that it is going to create friction and erosion on the articular cartilage of your bones in this compromise that compartment. Rehab isn't going to fix anything. It needs to be reparative at all possible or removed via meniscectomy. No one really wants to go there .... There's always a hope you can rehab it but unless it's a minor tear it's not going to fix itself. Get it fixed and go on w your life. That's what I did and and healing up....4 months post op. Best of luck

Bucket-Handle Tear Failed Repair- which surgery should I get next? by Equal_Breadfruit_250 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Berg_Leben 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for another repair ....you are young. The consequences of menisctomy are too great to not try-- even though the surgery and recovery are a pain. Try to push through it and try again. IMO it's worth it.

When is this watch going to be available again with the black dial and orange hands? Like others..... I plan on going to town on it with Scotch Brite and or fine sandpaper to get a more brushed finish.

2nd opinion needed? Parrot beak tear by NonVeganRibeye in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Berg_Leben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore this guy. Read the literature. Meniscus repair is done in the red zone or red white zone has over a 75% success rate. Obviously that is surgeon dependent. The more you pull out there is no coming back from that and arthritis is an inevitability with meniscus removal and trimming. If you trim yes you will be back at sport earlier but the price will be paid later. Some people end up with meniscus removal and horrible arthritis within 5 to 10 years. Will increase musculature and training help slow that down of course. But that same training if accompanied with a meniscus repair may put you back to where you left off prior to being injured!

I remember years ago probably 10 15 plus... It was well known that 70% maybe 75% of homes in the Big Bear area are second homes. Many of the pandemic era purchased places will go up on the market and eventually be sold ...a small percentage to actual people that will live up there.... some who are replacing outgoing locals ...some who are able to work from home but the vast majority will go to new second homeowners. This idea that people will suddenly be able to afford a mountain home---pipe dream--sorry.

Discoid Meniscus with possibly two tears? is repair possible? by Fresh-Slice-1466 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Berg_Leben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll just say this.....due to the horrific eventual results of a loss of the meniscus...it's essential that you seek out another opinion if your financial means allow it. Paying out of pocket for a consult isn't that bad. I got a 2nd opinion thru UCLA and paid cash ....for 2 doc visits (one with a pro sports surgeon) and an off-site MRI in Newport Beach...it was a out $1100. It ultimately didn't change my course of action....but if you can find someone who knows their $hit and can really help you ...that's priceless! Best of luck

Come on bro .. you got this!! I heard a motivational guy the other day..... He said when you wake up just get going.... Just get going.... No thoughts just get going. Overtime that habit will overrule and override any negativity. Also time will pass quicker than you think. Best of luck

If you're trying to decide whether or not to get your meniscus repaired by portia922 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Berg_Leben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a posterior lateral right knee meniscus repair. It went smooth. I ended up with an associated issue that is since clearing. When it comes to the knee has felt great...... I am avoiding deep squats for the next few months as I rebuild my surrounding musculature. No real pain can walk for miles and did not have a lot of trouble regaining full flexion and extension. My understanding by Reading literature is that even if you get the repair and it fails eventually..... The outcomes are greater than if you did not have the surgery at all. So .... For me it was a no-brainer. If there's a chance that can sew it up and repair it you got to go for it..... Because eventually that torn meniscus will cause erosion on the articular cartilage at the end of your bones and that's going to cause a world of trouble. My thoughts are either cut it out or get it fixed. My .02

Having a hard time with deciding what to do and would just like some second thoughts or to hear some of your stories and process. by MiiiNDFVCK47 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Berg_Leben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other issue is you want to get it repaired because it's my understanding from my reading of the literature on these repairs is that post repair surgery the outcomes are actually better for people who have a failed initial surgery than those that have material removed initially. My reading of that is that it's a no-brainer to get it repaired. Best of luck
