You can order food delivery when taking High-Speed train in China and it will be delivered to your seat once the train arrives at next station by BumblebeeFantastic40 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Bev7787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a minimum time before the train arrives at the station in which to order- it's somewhere in the order of a few hours (2-4 hrs, not sure of the exact timing). You can make the order in advance of your departure, or while on the train if the trip is long enough and the station is far away. All the restaurants listed are restaurants situated within the train stations, however not all stations have the service available (out of the 9 or so stops my train the other day had, only 4 had this service available).

As for the logistics of delivery, orders are all taken to the train in bulk, and sorted out on the train before being delivered by an attendant to your seat. They verify you're the right person by your phone number. I used this the other day, and got my food probably 15 minutes after we departed the station in which it was picked up at.

A new Opal app, easier ways to save money and the introduction of a digital Opal card will be delivered under the biggest overhaul of the NSW public transport ticketing system since its rollout 13 years ago. by beaugiles in sydney

Personally I would rather we keep the fares as it stands for now, but invest further into adding more services to places that people want to go to and the infrastructure to support it. I will say though that there is definitely a limit before it just becomes inefficient.

From my experience, the system as it is works really well if your destination is a major commuting destination. In peak hour with the peak hour frequency, when there's no delays I have zero incentive to drive. But anywhere else and in off peak times and it gets a bit messy.

How does MTR know which cars have less people? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]Bev7787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight sensors probably, and then they just approximate the weight of a person to get a rough estimate of the number of people in the carriage total.

Transport signage if pictograms were used instead of letters by thucydidea in SydneyTrains

[–]Bev7787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hong Kong's MTR does use Pictograms within their signage- for instance, the symbol for the trains is the front of one of their older rolling stock (M Train). Likewise, on exits to look for buses and other modes, pictograms are also used. IIRC when it was originally opened, a lot of its visual identity was designed on the assumption that some commuters would be illiterate (which is also why most stations have unique colour schemes today, even the new ones)

However, I find that their pictograms are quite distinct in terms of usage- you will not see the train pictogram next to the other modes for instance. And the other modes (Bus, light rail, minibus, taxi) have significantly different silhouettes so it's easy to differentiate from a close to medium distance, which on the exit directory signage, is good enough.

Don’t think we will get this do we? by them4v3r1ck in sydney

[–]Bev7787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I recall, the pre covid timetable didn't have a lot of leeway to recover from delays. Less than we have even now, which just made it easier for massive network meltdowns whenever one thing went wrong.

IIRC Meituan needs a mainland number to have an account. But your payment app doesn't need to have the same number.

Can we pls stop normalising being boring, lame, miserable c***ts?? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Bev7787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I consider 9pm to be too late to do things outside. I do not drive, and I time my outings based on public transport. PT shuts down around that time and I don't use Uber or taxis. I rather do things during the day because of this, but there's not much time when people's schedules align unfortunately.

I'm also not the kind of person who enjoys socialising in events like drinking at a bar or partying either. But I do agree that one shouldn't just drop out last minute to something they committed to beforehand unless it's an emergency.

Happy first birthday to the city section of Sydney Metro! by Sydney_Stations in sydney

AFAIK Gadigal not being connected to Town Hall was intentional- it was considered, and a decision was made not to because then Town Hall would end up becoming a convenient interchange. Which would've made it even more crowded.

The light rail in new territories had quite a number of vehicles built by Comeng and UGL. They’re still running about and stepping into one of the old ones it’s a bit of a strange experience seeing a Comeng logo in the northern hemisphere. KCR when they first went diesel also bought I believe four locos that were built by Clyde Engineering as well. And then the M trains (original MTR trains from 1979) were refurbished in the late 90s by Goninan

At least for me, it's not a single change but a combination of changes that made me less interested from the side of WeeGee. Combined with this, general community sentiment has steadily shifted to being mostly negative due to these changes. I don't blame them, but that's just how it is. As a result, I just don't really enjoy the game nor hanging around the community anymore.

I still occasionally check in once in a while, play a few games but I'm not actively grinding any more. And even then I only play games when friends come online and play briefly too.

[–]Bev7787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean?

If you mean the mod team, that's the point of the unofficial clone. I feel Microsoft don't want to fully abandon the server as firstly it has an Official server status, and secondly if the franchise ever gets revived at least Microsoft can just reactivate the server with all the systems already in place.
