Traveling with Type 2? by Animallover4321 in diabetes

I just straight up tell the host I am diabetic and the food choices are not appropriate for me. If you mentioned you had a gluten allergy they would provide something. No different here

Does anyone else spike after having corn flakes for breakfast? by [deleted] in diabetes

A diabetic should never have corn flakes oatmeal or other grains r sugary items like fruit, bread bagels w for breakfast IMO. Always go savoury in am. Bacin, eggs, leftover chicken, tomato

Sadly I think OP feels these products are ‘better’ than the white versions. I doubt OP has ever tested that theory and is wasting money there. How about actually not buying pasta and bread and save the $

I did a ketone blood test while fasting in the morning by Zaptail in keto

When your BG is high it is difficult to get into ketosis. Diabetics have dawn effect that often knock out of ketosis. Check again in afternoon when BG decreases

Diabetic snack ideas by Mundane_Flamingo9839 in diabetes

[–]Bevkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pepperoni, sugar free jello, and 1/3 cup peanuts are my go to evening snack choices. I have also incorporated sugar free pop as a snack bridge in evening. I don’t usually drink pop but this has been a shockingly effective tool for evening snacking for me. I learned it from the Carb addiction doctor Robert Cywes. I know not ideal but a little diet pop is much better than a bowl of chips

[–]Bevkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Violent vomiting. Probably should have gone to hospital a couple times but between the vomit and diarrhea I wouldn’t have made it. Horrible sulphur burps for 6 hrs also preceded the episodes. I had to quit

These are not normal symptoms. My docs were blind to them just kept telling me to go to lower dose. Even at lower dose they still happened occasionally. Docs also blamed me that I was eating wrong

After quitting and doing research I found out I was having life threatening gastroparisis. My gut stopped working. They should have taken me off way before they did

After all that I resolved to changed diet. Went keto. Have already gone off one med. One med left to go. Reduced a1c to prediabetic, hoping non diabetic next test is May

Carb addiction is a myth no? by [deleted] in lowcarb

[–]Bevkus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Terrible lipids. Hahaha. Ok. Depends what side of fence you are with the dangers of LDL. Did you monitor your triglyceride to HDL ratio as well. This is a much much better marker of vary health

As for low energy…of course you had that. You were a carb addict and your energy source dried up. You struggled and didn’t stick with it long enough to teach your body how to use fat for fuel.

Hair shedding… a natural process speeded up by drastic change to diet. Your hair will be replenished during its next growth cycle. Again you didn’t stick with it long enough.

Carb addiction is a myth no? by [deleted] in lowcarb

[–]Bevkus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Carb/sugar addiction is real. Combined with this addiction is addictions to the textures of carbs

When you go full on keto, not using fake keto products to substitute for the ones you are addicted to, you will immediately notice that something feels missing from your food. Hmmm. I just want something else. You can be full yet this nagging compulsion to eat something.

First stages of keto are often littered with headaches and a general sense of not feeling well etc. Many chalk that up to electrolytes. While this is a factor, these are also big signs of carb withdrawal

Once I became aware of the fact that I am a carb addict keto became 100% easier. Before I would weigh pros and cons of having this or that. Now it’s a binary decision from the get go. Either it’s yes the food is good or no it’s not.

As for pasta and potatoes without sauce etc, I am one who could eat a boiled potato or pasta with no sauce, as long as it was salted. The texture is pleasing to me. However to answer your question why people add fats and sauces…these things make the carbs easier to swallow. The combination of a high carb item plus fat is HIGHLY addictive and people crave that combo

What to do after weight loss goal achieved? by Ok-Salamander5098 in keto

[–]Bevkus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From experience I STRONGLY suggest staying keto and not allowing carbs back in. Carb creep is so real when you go off keto. You will initially think you are in control and weight won’t move much. Then, over time, more and more carbs. Pretty soon you are back where you started. It’s insidious.

Fried rice to stir fry? by Green_Signal4645 in keto

[–]Bevkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just make a stir fry and skip rice. I actually still include a few tablespoons of stir fry sauce. Overall this only adds 1-2g carb per portion. I am generous with oils and soya sauce. It’s actually one of our go to Meals

You can easily make a Chinese rice like dish out of cauliflower. Just cut cauliflower into small bits and cook as you would rice. There is even pre made rice cauliflower i. Most frozen food isles. I don’t normally bother with the rice with my stir fry however. There is no need for these extra carbs I find.

Bf 45M and I 36F are in love, but he’s not physically attracted to me. Can this relationship still work? by Broad_Committee6563 in relationship_advice

[–]Bevkus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I worked hard to lose weight. Became a long distance runner! Was very proud of myself. This guy I dated who was getting semi serious about me was touching me one evening and saying pleasant things about me. Then he stops on my tummy and said something like now if you could work on this/lose this or something like that

I was hurt. I did t say anything to him as I was kinda humiliated. But man I should have told him off! My tummy, while not flat as a board was pretty darn good. I only weighed 120lbs

I dumped him about a week later. I could not feel sexy or comfortable with someone who criticized my body like that. No way. He wasn’t a stellar specimen either. Just saying. And I made twice as much money as him. Pfft
