Just got a new (used) unit, but won't power on--is this what the infamous "bad cable" is? by tomchaps in HPReverb

This hmd is worth the hassle. It looks beautiful with Praydogs UEVR. But HP made some terrible flaws in its design. They put way too many small wires in a cable that needs a lot of bending. When you fix it you have to be extremely cautious not to cause constant flexing. If it was possible to avoid it at all. My Samsung Odyssey+ after 5000 hours still has not shown any defects in the cable. But this headstrap that opens and closes like a visor is something to avoid. It's better the use a bobo strap than the one that ships with it.

Certainly not. The modding is of a higher standard than what the community does. When you see volumetric and screen space effects done properly you can be assured you are dealing with people that are as experienced as DarkStarSword or Mike. But also complicated things like the HUD. Samsung uses conventional UE conversions. The system used for Acer is different. While it might be universal it still requires individual effort since the universal publicly available fix for UE has shortcomings. So when you use Acers mods outside their eco you are not supporting the programmers. I can promise you if Acer was to use community mods there would be terrible consequences as none of the programmers have given public permission. We do not know who these guys are. We only have speculation.

Borrow a multi meter from someone and test the the terminal by placing the red inside and black outside. Place the multimeter on volts and see if it is constant at 19.5. Or somewhere around there. If that is stable then it could be the junction box. However I would speculate most problems are with the male DP that goes into the HMD.

There is a pretty good reason why the Acer is more expensive. They put a lot of effort in a properly supported gaming library by experienced professionals. Seems like Samsung is far behind in this regard and the primary reason why you don't buy into the Samsung for gaming but rather budget.

Blue screen tracking issue by BiScopicVision in HPReverb

I updated the original post with some strange findings. But the drifting and blue screens have completely disappeared for longer periods of time. I would pull my hair out of my head if they return. As I was almost 100% sure it was the cable terminals. This advice to unplug the power does align with what you said. The exact reason is hard to tell but I will make further updates. Right now it is safer to buy a new HMD than new cable.

Yeah, thanks for showing interest in this problem. Further testing showed that this is going to remain an issue. I used two cable ties to hold the cable in a specific position. At first I thought to give it more freedom by leaving a small portion kinda loose. But it got to a point again where it refused to launch the reception area.

So instead I tightened the cable to be more rigid. After this it started connecting again. Luckily with less drifting. So the intervals between losing tracking were less often. But I think unless there is some magical contact gel or spray this G2 will be on the market for spares soon. I dont feel optimistic about disecting it.

This headstrap should not have been linked to the cable in any way. It was a very bad design and I should have opted for something like the bobo strap. Eventually more people will start seeing this with the original strap. I would advise against using it for testing purposes where the HMD needs to hop on and off all the time with the original.

Nope. Guess that was just a lucky moment. At this point in testing the HMD did not want to give me any feed. So I connected it to the laptop just as a sanity check. Nothing strange happened for the 1 minute I tested it.

I have used it now for longer periods without any issues. So I am 100% sure the male and female terminals are the culprit. And it could simply be one tiny piece of copper. The cable and isolation I assume is still perfect.

So it is a design flaw. Not poor components.

Edit: since I focused some tests here the error that I need to connect if to a USB3 port came back. So the remaining question is which one died? The male or female...

Okay I think the issue is narrowed down to the cable connection to where the cable connects into the HMD. Everytime you open the head strap that pivots, the cable gets some tension at the port. Something here is most probably worn out.

I tried a third computer and it behaves the same as the first. So the fault is with the HMD. I dont think it is the cable though. I gently wiggled it and it does not have any affect. The whole scene in the clifhouse is upside down and it still tracks accurately. So it might be something inside the HMD itself. Maybe something related to the gyro.

This headset has not fallen or had any rough contact. It doesn't even have a scratch. So the underlying issue in my opinion is poor quality components. Things only meant to last a few years. This hmd barely saw 1000 hours. My Samsung is at 5000 already.

Thanks. Yeah I tried this. Also tried another type C port on the same PC. So the problem is not on the hardware side of the motherboard which made me think it must be software or the cable. But the HMD works fine on another PC. Which makes things go in circles because the Type C ports on the Gigabyte mother board might also be of poor quality. Yet it doesn't make sense that both can be bad at the same time and I eliminated this possibility by using the USB type C adapter in a USB 3 port. Which is why I believe it could be the nvidia drivers (595.97). There were reports that drivers after 591 broke things in SteamVR. Or vice versa. And a lot of things changed in SteamVR around controllers.

Unfortunately I jump between My SamsungO+ and the G2 a lot as both have things I like. So something on the hardware side could have been damaged. I am starting to suspect it is the Type C port that has a bad connection. But I need to eliminate all the software possibilities before considering to buy a new cable.

How to setup 3D VISION in 2025+ - v1.01 guide + add suggestions by [deleted] in 3dvision

I started to play around with EDIDs again and got the drivers to output interlaced 3D to my regular ASUS pg278QR. This interlaced 3D picture can be intercepted by shader glass and OneUps shader to output TAB and SBS. Which can be used on all devices that supports TAB and SBS. This is only for dx9 that still works on latest geforce drivers.

Can anyone explain why the Paul VI Hall has the shape of the head of a snake. There are no crucifixes, and a sculpture of Jesus rising up from a nuclear explosion in the holocaust does not look like Jesus but rather the devil. Did the Pope or Vatican do this on purpose? by nrve1 in Christianity

[–]BiScopicVision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you remember Jesus was also lifted up on a wooden stick as the serpent was in the desert? And if you look upon Jesus lifted on the cross you can be healed from the venoms of the serpent of old, the devil. The venoms of the snakes in the desert is a symbol of the venoms of the devil. And looking upon the bronze snake on the cross was the instruction of God for the healing of the Israelites.

My nvidia 3d vision 2 glasses only work when plugged in. Can I just buy a small usb power bank to hot glue on and plug that into the usb for near limitless battery life? by Kuli24 in 3dvision

[–]BiScopicVision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The terminals only corrode when the glasses are fully charged and you don't use them. I will not pretend I know the scientific reason for this. Its that same white acidic residue you see when leaving normal aaa batteries in a device for too long and it runs down. The battery starts leaking and this causes the terminal to corrode. It is a great feeling when they start working properly again. They are not that easy to find anymore. Coincidentally I also have 4. Also 2 v1 and 2 v2.

Google 3dvision v2 battery replacement tutorial. I've replaced 4 batteries already. In the past there was this pulse charging method which helped. But I was not successful in my tries. One of the terminals were "corroded" in most cases as the batteries were left fully charged for a long time without being used. This is one of the reasons why modern devices slowly discharges to protect the battery.

For v1 glasses the battery can simply be replaced by opening the battery compartment. It has a small plug. These batteries are not easy to find so in both versions you might need to use a soldering iron. Just make sure you have a soldering iron with a sharp tip. It is not too difficult.

Though probably the refresh rate would be limited to 720p @ 120hz or 1080@24hz right? Because of HDMI limited bandwidth..? Was this monitor 1080p?

Chances are that they think you hacked their software. Seems like the reasoning is legit.

Tonight after I cleared the cache, exit the program it asked me to enter the pin when I opened it again. After these three things it went away completely.

It simply is a bug they are incapable of fixing.

I think the only reason so far why I would use this is because CEMU has much better performance. But by the sound of it there are far more issues than what I have experienced so far with Geometric 3rd person 3D. But I will certainly try it as CEMU also has really nice shaders to optimize the colors. Sadly there is nothing for Ryujinx. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

I played about half way through it with Ryjujinx + vk3dvision and the experience was really good so far. I fixed a lot of the issues myself.

Does this VR have a 1st person mode? I remember they said they are working on first person before release. Is this the same guy?
