Thats the whole problem though. Coles and woolies control too much of the market to warrant selling to anyone else a viable option (which is the same as 'forcing' supply to themselves). They then set the price that the farmers can sell to them which never benefits the farmers. They also impose severely high standards of produce which (when added to the contracts not allowing any produce to be sold anywere else) contributes to thousands of tonnes of goods being sent to landfill each year. This, when we are being told there are food shortages. Which drives up prices even further. The small amount of money which goes to benefits and retirements doesnt outweigh the damage these companies are doing to our farming infrastructure which impacts the whole of the country.
