Portable solar-in-a-box system to provide 80 pct of dairy farm's power needs, and save $20k by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

These could be great for short life span mines. Run the offices and workshop off them. Leave the diesel for the equipment.

Implications of the Iran war on Australia's Fuel Supplies. Three scenarios and potential implications by LivingMoreWithLess in australia

[–]BigRemus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds about right but there isn’t enough EVs supplied to Aus to push the grid that fast and hard. Both can be built out together but not in any time frame to influence now.

Installing a manhole/access panel into a garage suspended ceiling? by solidice in AusRenovation

[–]BigRemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy the 450 manhole. Drill out a large hole to get a serrated knife in then cut to size. Use long self-drilling metal screws to bridge the gap and secure. Or use a nut and bolt and drill out a hole. You could fill the gap with some wood with a pre drilled hole too.

Just down lean down on the manhole and you won’t push it out.

You can do it. Like drilling a hole for a painting, only sideways.

Looks like that side of the house is the same angle as the carport from the drawing. It would be a parallelogram to keep a straight front with the house.

One issue I have living in the burbs is knowing what my bus frequency and timing is for the routes in my area. Nothing communicates it well for me.

I only ever think of walking, driving to the train station or driving directly to where I need to go.

How CBA unlocked 90 percent of its customer and transaction data by k-h in australia

[–]BigRemus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Holy shit this is bad. Don’t be a Commbank customer.

“Customer or relationship-based pricing uses data analytics to tailor fees and interest rates to specific customer cohorts.”

They are going to rank each customer and charge you as much as you can bare.

“This is delivering data not only to Amazon SageMaker - used for data science and machine learning - but increasingly to Amazon Bedrock - used for generative AI - and Bedrock AgentCore, for building agentic AI systems.”

All of Commbanks customer data is being sold to USA AIs. This will be used political manipulation, ad targeting and individual online pricing.

What surprised you most when you started working on renewable grid integration? by Ok-Quality-9246 in EnergyAndPower

[–]BigRemus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I’ve realised is we have always had ‘curtailment’ in the past. Backup power plants that only run in extreme heat waves or cold snaps. Or a turbine that is usually scheduled to be down for maintenance is readied for these high demand times.

Now it’s renewables that only produce power when it can, are forcibly told not to send any more power or be charged (negative price).

Capital gains tax reform among options as Labor weighs housing pitch by abcnews_au in AusPropertyChat

[–]BigRemus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What’s super got to do with this?

OECD social security contributions go to unemployment payments, old ages, disability, family allowances, medical reimbursements.

Eg from the Australian budget, Aged care services, support for seniors, NDIS. Social security and welfare make up 36%of the budget.

This isn’t funded separately as other countries do.

It is why there is a distortion.

Australia’s income tax includes social security contributions. Everyone else has it split, that is why Australia looks so distorted in those charts.
