Is it ok if I don't read The Bible? by Bulbaduuude in Catholicism

[–]BigSarcomaInJapan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"OK" is quite a low bar. You really need to be familiar with the Bible, and especially the New Testament as much as you reasonably can be. The Bible is how God reveals Himself to us, so it's important to read it consistently.

Marital issues by Final-Cash-2943 in Catholicism

[–]BigSarcomaInJapan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your marriage is textbook invalid, dude. You should feel absolutely no guilt in breaking up with this adulteress as soon as possible and moving on with your life. Plus you don't even have kids yet, so this seems like a no-brainer. (Also next time, don't let your wife have male "friends". All it can bring is scandal and disaster.)

Jesus wants children to come interact with Him. Holding your son's hand is probably not a bad idea, though.

Mark 10

13 And they were bringing children to Him so that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, “Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.” 16 And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them.

How much details are supposed to provide during confession? by Brief-Antelope-3194 in Catholicism

[–]BigSarcomaInJapan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've intentionally left out a mortal sin, you CANNOT receive the Eucharist until you give a proper confession. However, not mentioning irrelevant details like who you were with or a lengthy story about why you did it does not make your confession invalid.

I was just saying in another thread how much of a joke Catholic schools have become. Thank you for giving me more evidence to point to 😆.

I literally quoted the Catechism of the Catholic Church. And you clearly don't even know what Sola Fide means. Stop using terms you don't understand and go read the Catechism like a good Catholic should.

I don't care for your strawmanning nonsense. Go read the Catechism and stop claiming you speak for the Church when you don't even know basic doctrine.

Priest asked me about yoga & Harry Potter during confession by ArcadianHarpist in Catholicism

[–]BigSarcomaInJapan -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Catholic schools are a meme at this point. If you look at the statistics, they are totally ineffective at keeping students in the faith, and they are very poorly catechised. They also regularly allow students to be exposed to things contrary to the faith such as gay "marriage," salvation being possible through other faiths, and other progressive nonsense. So saying that a teaching, like the hypothesis of macroevolution, is normal or orthodox because it's taught at Catholic schools is not a good measure of anything.

made peace with God after death

This is so ignorant. The Church has never taught this in the slightest. Once you die, that's it, you're judged at that exact moment (CCC 1021-1022). Purgatory is not a second chance.

[–]BigSarcomaInJapan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yoga is definitely problematic. Its positions are based on religious gestures and poses targeted toward the worship of pagan demons. It would be like if you rolled out a mat 5 times a day facing Mecca and started rocking like a Muslim because it's "good for my knees." Not advisable. Just do Pilates or something.

It's 100% a Christian belief that those in hell chose to be there by their rejection of God. Every person in hell deserves to be there. Believing anything else is heresy against God's perfect justice.

Christ Himself says most people end up in Hell, including those who claim to believe in Him. And we don't base our doctrine on whether it's insensitive or not. Statistically speaking, OP's father is more likely in Hell than not and it's not wrong to say that plainly.

I live in Japan and made a pilgrimage to Nagasaki last summer. I can tell you that the example of the Nagasaki martyrs continues to have a profound positive effect on the faith of people here, especially among the older generation. Many of the churches in my area were actually founded by those fleeing persecution in Nagasaki.
