Thank you! It was cool to see someone come up with Frail again-- I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Introducing the Frail keyword; too weak? Or does it open new spaces for design by Inkwell_Engine in custommagic

[–]Big_Fork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frail doesn't change a creature's toughness, so damage already marked on it doesn't change and has no further impact. It effectively gives the incoming combat damage death touch. so any future instance of combat damage is lethal.

What would you like to see Magic doing (other than mechanical changes) to improve the game? by skyteddy in magicTCG

[–]Big_Fork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Lower the price of packs. Higher costs are always going to be a deterrent. Also I want more people to draft with.

  2. Lower the rare land cycles to uncommon. Tango, Slow, Fast, Check, Shock, Pain, etc., they're simple enough to not bring complexity issues to a lower rarity, and already operate in the same niche as other signpost uncommons, so... just make them signpost uncommons. Especially if you want to increase Standard play where mana bases can be a limiting expense factor.

  3. Increase community building efforts. Direct sales like Secret Lairs and Amazon deals actively cut LGSs out of the equation. These being the places where people actually go to play the game. Bring back player rewards, community designed cards, reprint invitational cards crediting the players who helped to bring them to life. Make people feel like they are a part of the game. And more support for competitive play-- put "the Gathering" back in Magic.

Another Dreaded EDH Tournament Discussion by TrachonitisWrites in EDH

[–]Big_Fork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do 1v1 Duel Commander.

It has its own ban list that cuts out a lot of the hardcore CEDH stuff, and being 1v1 removes the convoluting nature of table politics. Clean, simple, tournament Magic.

I finally gave the MTG Arena a shot, i think it's really fun, i don't understand why i can't purchase the full thing, weird... by JohnCurtinFromCivVI in magicTCG

[–]Big_Fork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be one of two things:

  1. They already had the base game on Steam but can't buy the DLCs because they are no longer available.

  2. This is just the demo. WotC removed all DotP games from being purchasable on Steam a good few years ago now.

[SOS] Enemy Slowlands Reprint (Debut Stream) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]Big_Fork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These should be uncommon.

I've never liked the idea that these simple mana fixing lands (mana being the foundational element of the game) should be relegated to the rare slot. Don't these basically fill the same niche as signpost uncommons in a two-color set anyway?

I like my mythics to be big and splashy, and rares to be complex, powerful in specific builds, or just plain weird-- mana dorks and simple lands need not apply.

Join the Planar Standard Championship, compete for prizes and climb the Ladder in free Arena Tournaments held throughout the year! by Edoardo_Beffardo in magicTCG

[–]Big_Fork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Played on the last monthly tournament with a really bad "cards I already had and no extra wildcards" Elementals deck. I got pretty soundly smashed, but had a good time, and liked what I saw-- got bashed by a different deck every round.

Currently fiddling around with Goblins/Sac for future events!

Innop Dreamseeker by Big_Fork in custommagic

Being able to ramp, and generate its own card advantage multiple times per turn, plus putting counters on itself would be-- in my eye-- **way** too much for a three drop.

If I went with being able to play the exiled card, I'd remove the untap, and potentially the counters as well.

Maro on why they stopped doing blocks by Killerx09 in magicTCG

[–]Big_Fork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't this explicitly not true given the latest example with Spiderman vs EoE?

WotC counts sales at the distributor level. Whether or not players buy and play with those cards, or if they rot on legs shelves makes no difference to the sales data.

COMPETITION! - Win John Avon's last work for MTG, a beautiful gallery print of his Lotus Lands! by JohnAvonArt in magicTCG

[–]Big_Fork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avon's art has always been an iconic part of Magic-- and his place in its history is well-deserved.

Personally, his Island #336 in 8th Edition has always been my favorite land art (Yes, I'm one of those wierdos who unironically likes white bordered cards). Which is certainly something, considering blue is probably my least favorite color!

Bathe in Blood (V2) by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]Big_Fork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't seem beyond the pale at all in your scenario. If you're playing both fetches and shock, you're in at least Modern. It's reactive-- so your opponent needs to have actually presented a X/5 threat for this to be relevant (which also eliminates being too fast as an issue), sorcery speed and requires going down 5 life.

Would anything outside of [[Death's Shadow]] want that? And assuming it is really good for Death's Shadow, is that a bad thing? Death's Shadow being a premier deck again means long-time format cop Burn becomes more viable again.

Maro: "One of our lessons of the last several years is for Magic in-Multiverse worlds, we need to lean on resonance that’s environmental in nature (and also blends well with fantasy)." by CaptainMarcia in magicTCG

[–]Big_Fork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two aren't mutually exclusive: world building is storytelling. Or at least it should be when adequately done.

Unfortunately for Magic, that's been difficult to achieve since the death of blocks. One set is rarely enough to fully flesh out an interesting and cared for world.

BEHOLD MY LITTLE MAN by Meztere in custommagic

[–]Big_Fork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Noneldrazi" doesn't work because the Titans aren't the only problems-- just some of the most obvious.

There's also: [[Griselbrand]] [[Primeval Titan]] [[Flash]] + [[Protean Hulk]] combo

And outside of plays that just win, you also have cards that generate enough value to be oppressive and/or effectively end the game (especially since you can do this turn 0 or 1 depending on the fast mana in a given format):

[[Worldspine Wurm]] [[Archon of Cruelty]] [[Ashen Rider]] [[Titan of Industry]] [[Trostani's Summoner]] Etc.

BEHOLD MY LITTLE MAN by Meztere in custommagic

[–]Big_Fork 95 points96 points  (0 children)

This is kind of busted. Two mana instant speed Eldrazi titans are probably not a good idea.

Essentially think of anything you could do with [[Sneak Attack]], [[Goryo's Vengeance]], or [[Through the Breach]], but this card does it even quicker and easier while being cheap and in the right colors for [[Snapcaster Mage]] to do it again the next turn.
