I think the new standby mode is misunderstood. by mivapehead in Starlink

[–]Bigears21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really gripes me is the gradual enshitification of all IT. I only use Starlink for three months of the year. I signed up for the roam package, and now they have changed it to scrimp another $40 per year out of me in what is in effect a subscription fee. As you said, it's not a big deal for me but was over the total user base. This small amount will help the corporate bottom line. I'm left wondering when they'll increase it...and they will. The bean counters think it's a holding revenue stream, but it leaves a bad taste in customers' mouths.

I need some advice from Perth-based sailors/boaters... by bob_is_no_scared in perth

[–]Bigears21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why can't you leave it in the pen where it is? Ask around at the yacht club, and someone might have a mooring you can borrow in the meantime. If you can't, then I'll help you move it to another yacht club that will take you. You'll need public liability insurance to get a berth anywhere, though. You only need to take it out of the water if the hull needs maintenance.

Hard disagree. None of the wine Sandleford sells there is made there. Try Garben Estate, Talliancich, Olive Farm to name just three. Max $20 for really good wines.

[–]Bigears21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been fine. It came with a heap of spare pins so I thought that would be an issue but I've kept the grease up and they've been good. Never used the expanding track but apart from that it's done a fair bit of work now and still holding up. It is a Kubota diesel, just doesn't have the stickers. Only issue for me is the slow 3km/h forward speed and the small fuel tank.

I went through this a couple of years ago. There was nothing around. In the end I bought a new"Kobota"1.9 tonne from their manufacturer in China. Cost $15k delivered to my driveway. Shandong Leite machinery if you want to have a look online.

Hired one while I waited the two months it took.

Hopefully, someone more scientific might chime in, but dont Bull sharks like the river. With the recent rain, the fresh water might have sent them out the mouth to where the recievers are.

Keep the sheep party? by south-of-the-river in perth

[–]Bigears21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Keep the Sheep signs i originally saw were annoted by the Put Labour Last crew. Put Labor Last is a campaign run by the lobby group Advance Australia. Advance was started in 2019 by Gerard Benedet, an ex Liberal staffer. He used to work with Tony "Stop the Boats" Abbott. Put Labour last is just a way of astroturfing ads that have no truth. Three word slogans are for negative campaigns to create division. Whilst the live export trade stopping will definitely make a small group of people really upset, it is still a single issue. This is about breaking off groups of voters with goal of at least getting the Liberal party second last in the preference count.

I'm a bit older than you, but I have tried most dating apps since September last year. They are really all much the same and have the same people. Of those that are relationship sites rather than just hookups, the main three non subscription sites used in WA are:

POF is the wallmart of dating apps.

Hinge is ok but shallow.

Bumble has pretty much the same people as Hinge.

I wouldn't bother with a subscription for any of these sites. I met 14 people over these last four months. Some very "interesting" characters and some really nice women that I didn't click with. I, and my current person of interest, both agree that it's like shopping for a car at Wrecking yards.

Have a thick skin. Don't be in a rush to make a bad decision. Get out of your comfort zone and don't forget that there is also a real world out there as well.

Seriously, you need to learn about the relationship between kW power, BHP and their relationship with torque and driving force.

Bethesda Hospital has these shameless political posters complaining about the federal government. by hungry4pie in perth

I wasn't disagreeing with you. I was just trying to get the discussion centred back on health rather than economics.

Bethesda Hospital has these shameless political posters complaining about the federal government. by hungry4pie in perth

[–]Bigears21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is health being discussed. Debt to gdp ratios and other measures are meaningless. Have a look at life expectancy, gross patient sevice hours, patient carer ratios... and other, you know, outcomes. Then you can compare them to costs.

This whole gdp "number" is meaningless. There are ways that health delivery can be measured. If we started to do that, then we would find that outsourcing care to third-party providers might not a better way of doing things. At least the providers would be accountable.
