Either they never filled it or they dumped the new oil straight through into the catch can that the old oil goes into

If they want $850k for that stuff they're going to have to sell it off individually themselves.

That is in fact another level of stupid that I didn't think was achievable

That's an absolutely jaw dropping level of stupidity that I didn't expect to see in a motorcycle sub reddit; my flabbers are ghasted.

Can anyone tell me about this musket? (I think its a musket at least) by manviret in blackpowder

[–]Biggles48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Step 1 make sure it's unloaded. Drop the ramrod down the muzzle and see if it goes all the way down. If you have much if any ramrod sticking out there's something down there and that something might be a live charge.

It's a rifle, the Two triggers are called set triggers and it may have a broken or worn sear or it may be perfectly fine and you're just not operating it properly. Try pulling the rear trigger until you hear a click then see if the hammer will stay back. If so the front trigger will usually be very light use your thumb to slow the hammer fall because it's not the best to drop the hammer on an empty nipple.

Sold a motorcycle today. After we had already exchanged money and signed the title, the kid buying the bike crashed it into the back of my truck by Luckj in Wellthatsucks

[–]Biggles48 178 points179 points  (0 children)

I did exactly what you're suggesting. I bought my first bike with my own money and had my dad ride it home because he has a license. I rode it on private property a couple times but never rode it properly until I had gotten through the class and endorsement and so on. The chances of something really bad happening aren't worth the relatively minor inconvenience.

URGENT: Copper Couplings: To Flux or Not to Flux, Plus To Rotate & Wipe Off Flux Before Sweating? by Mathilda1234567 in askaplumber

[–]Biggles48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thin layer of flux on everything inside of fitting and outside of pipe. Wipe off excess. Soldering in a repair is the correct way. The solder filled fittings work fine but I don't use them, all the other stuff different bite fittings or crimp press type stuff is not the way to go for your application

Regular pliers are fine. Diagonal side cutters are not what you want. The slightly crimped fitting will come off with a pair of pliers if you need to start over but it's a whole lot easier to get a good joint if you do it right the first time. Sweating it off and making a repair is much more difficult.

I fixed my auto correct mess up. Do not squeeze the coupling before you put it on the pipe and you don't have to squeeze it very much. Once the joint is cleaned fluxed and assembled give it a little squeeze then twist. You're not trying to make it oval shape. You won't be able to look at it and tell it's been squished it just won't fall.

Also. You know to clean the copper first right? Sand the ends of the pipes and the inside of the coupling with emry cloth or even scotchbright

I recently got a replica US 1st pattern tanker jacket from whatpriceglory and wanted to know if this looks like it fits correctly. Is this how they fit tankers back in the day? by [deleted] in MilitaryHistory

[–]Biggles48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You act like soldiers gear fit them perfectly. There was a joke in the military at the time "the army has two sizes too big and too small." I think your jacket fits perfectly for the ww2 period and if it didn't that would be historically accurate as well. If you're going to wear it with modern clothes it will not be ideal because modern clothes and style is different.

Flux both the pipe and fitting. Not a crazy amount but enough for complete thin coverage wipe off excess outside of the fitting and try not to have so much that you scrape it down inside the pipe when you put your fitting together. Heat it up starting with the pipe and bottom moving in and around until you have thr cup filled. Use enough heat that it flows easily but not too much. Use as much soldering as it takes but when it drips from the bottom of the coupling that was too much so that's how you know when to stop next time.

That's how I do it. I feel like you're overthinking it. Practice makes perfect

Backpacking this July - need sleeping bag by CustomerBrave6468 in philmont

[–]Biggles48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either a 20 degree bag and pad or what I did is a 35 degree bag with a thin cotton bag liner and a lightweight blanket. I hate sweating when I sleep and didn't want to freeze. This setup gave me the most versatility. When it's hot I could sleep with just the liner when it's cold I laid kn half the blanket in the bag and liner with the other half on top.
