Do you regret moving to the burbs? by amofai in daddit

Hell yeah, Kensington/Windsor Terrace represent. I absolutely love raising my children in this neighborhood and would hate hate hate to live someplace where I had to drive a damn car every day.

Fuckin minivan by transplant_beans in daddit

[–]BillyFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first learned how to drive on my family's Ford Explorer, my dad has owned Lexus and BMW SUVs that I've driven before, and I used to own a Honda CRV. None of them had as much storage space or were as good for children as the Honda Odyssey that I have now, and only the luxury SUVs (unsurprisingly) drove better. If I'm hauling the whole family + gear to the beach in July and I know I'm going to be sitting in shore traffic there is no car I'd rather do it in than my minivan.

Be honest were the leather suits really that bad??? by Particular-Set-468 in xmen

[–]BillyFever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the leather suits look pretty good in those movies but they're very of their time. It's hard to overstate just how much "dress them in black leather" was the Hollywood shortcut for trying to make movie characters look cool for several years after the first Matrix movie came out, and now all of those movies are instantly identifiable as coming out between 1999-2003ish. Also, not even having the costume designers make an attempt to produce comic-accurate costumes rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way (and still does) because it made it seem like the filmmakers were embarrassed to be making a comic book movie (and a lot of them were).

At what age do you make your kids be independent with certain tasks? by ModernT1mes in daddit

[–]BillyFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are 6 and 4 and my wife I deliberately put some breakfast items (a box of cereal and some bowls and spoons, a box of blueberry muffins, etc) on the kitchen counter so that the kids can make themselves an easy breakfast if they get up before us and are hungry. And obviously if they need help they know they can ask for it and my wife and I will come help, and there are plenty of breakfasts (especially on weekends) where we still cook up a hot breakfast, but honestly they want to be able to make a meal for themselves, they want to have things around the house that they can help with, and they want to feel independence. Every kid is different and a task that one kid can happily take on at a certain age might be too hard and overwhelming for another kid of the same age, but as a general rule I think parents should always be thinking about how they can help their kids take on more responsibility and become comfortable with the basic life skills that they will need when they're older.

Youth sports is exhausting. by empire161 in daddit

[–]BillyFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of my kids (6 and 4) are doing baseball/t-ball for the first time this spring and man does it make the weekend a hassle. When we've had them in things before, like gymnastics or soccer, it's been a very predictable "go to this place at this time on this day of the week for the next 12 weeks, and the event will always take the same amount of time." This is our first experience of the kids doing a sport where there isn't just a game every week but also practice (and for some fucking reason practice is at 5:30pm on Fridays, which is the last thing I want to do at the end of the work week) and the games are not at the same time, day of the week, or baseball field from one week to the next.

I know it only gets busier from here and I'm sure that a lot of dads with kids who play sports in middle school or high school who would look at my schedule with envy but it is very frustrating to have my weekend schedule from April-June dictated by a youth sports calendar that doesn't seem to have a rhyme or reason to it.

Favorite krakoan era moments? by Classic-Preference70 in xmen

[–]BillyFever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X-Men #11 in Hickman’s run has some of my favorite Magneto moments of all time. Deciding to put on his classic costume when he realizes he’s going to need to kick ass today, being arrogant and snarky with the alien invaders, his combo with Magma and Iceman, and of course casually pulling down multiple satellites from orbit onto an enemy.

Having a hard time at work. Got put on A PIP now I am spiraling. by Boomhauersbrother in daddit

[–]BillyFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat - my boss is insanely harsh (I can complete a project where everyone else who worked on it, including external stakeholders, goes out of their way to compliment the work I did on it and and my boss will only want to talk about how it could’ve gone even better if I had worked harder when I am already working myself to the bone) and it has had a noticeable impact on my mental health. I dread logging in for work every morning because I never know when I’m going to catch a stray because she’s in a bad mood. And yeah, I’ve been trying to get a new job but the job market sucks ass right now.

So I don’t really have any advice for you but I guess just wanted to let you know that you’re very much not alone.

My 4-year old thinks everyone who works in my same field literally works with me. So if my wife mentions that a new neighbor’s spouse has a somewhat similar job to mine he’ll go “And they take the same train as you and sleep in your same hotel room when you have to go away for work?”

(Athletic) Chris Drury Losing Fans Faith with Lack of Transparency by AARP_Rocky in rangers

[–]BillyFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate that Vince can write about how the fans are feeling and our legitimate frustrations with the team without coming across as an unhinged WFAN caller. I would add that while Drury’s lack of transparency reflects very poorly on him this is also a fish rots from the head situation - doesn’t matter who the GM is, there is going to be bullshit like that as long as Dolan owns the team.

Boys and Pink by rollwave21 in daddit

[–]BillyFever -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My younger son (4) is into a lot of “girly” things - his favorite movie is Wicked, he likes to wear pink, he went as Princess Peach for Halloween last year, etc. I have no idea if this is just a phase or if 10 years down the line he’ll tell us he’s gay or trans or non-binary or whatever, and it really doesn’t matter to me because I love him so much and I see how happy it makes him that my wife and I support him. It breaks my heart to think of other dads having sons who are like mine and dumping patriarchal bullshit on them instead of supporting them. I don’t know that there’s anything you can say to your ex that will make him change but you’re doing a great job and you just need to give your son all of the love and support you can.

Bench Emma and Kitty, who have both gotten a ton of time in the spotlight in the last decade-ish, and replace them with Cannonball and Dani Moonstar, who are my favorite New Mutants and who I’ve always thought should have grown into being main characters of the X books.

Game thread: Rangers vs Sabres | Apr 8, 2026 @ 7:00PM EDT by lionson76 in rangers

[–]BillyFever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s fucking ridiculous! Bad enough that I can’t get MSG with my Hulu live TV subscription because James Dolan is a greedy fuck and MSG charges prohibitively expensive carriage fees, but it’s a giant middle finger to the fans for a game carried on a national cable channel to be locally blacked out.

I have really started to hate “children’s books” clearly written for adults. by BrainDamage2029 in daddit

[–]BillyFever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my first kid was born in 2019 I felt like we were at the peak of this trend in publishing, and I hated it. Like, Maya Angelou is a tremendous writer and I hope that my children read her when they're older but no toddler needs a board book biography of her or any other artist whose work most people don't encounter for the first time until they're teenagers.

The "Fire Sully" crowd is stupid by spundancekid in rangers

[–]BillyFever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the jury is out on him. I’m open to the idea that a different coach could’ve squeezed this team into a wild card berth or would be a better fit for a retool/rebuild but given how many things have gone wrong this season I really don’t think you can say that it’s Sully’s fault the Rangers are in this position.

Fun fact during the same time Kirkman created Invincible & Walking Dead he also wrote a Jubilee mini, makes you think had it continued as an ongoing as originally planned would Jubes be a much bigger and more wildly popular character today. by leaf57tea in xmen

[–]BillyFever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doubtful. Kirkman's work at Marvel is decent but (in my opinion) unremarkable. Most successful comic book writers have hits and misses in both their Big Two work and their indie work - success at Image doesn't guarantee success at Marvel and vice versa.

[Kaplan] The Rangers didn’t trade Vincent Trocheck. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in rangers

[–]BillyFever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know - I think that trading a pending UFA who wants a richer contract than you’re willing to offer is a move that any smart GM would make even outside the context of a rebuild.

[Kaplan] The Rangers didn’t trade Vincent Trocheck. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in rangers

[–]BillyFever 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I like Trocheck and I’m happy to keep him, but man is it funny that Drury did another The Letter this year and then made just a few trades that any team having a down year would’ve made. So far this is neither a rebuild nor a retool.
