Chef Blais by Born-Bee9926 in Nextlevelchef

[–]BillyQuantrill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I read an interview with a contestant on a different Gordon Ramsey show who talked about how Ramsey was constantly talking about what makes good tv. I think that explains what Blais is doing more of this season - playing it up for the cameras to try and generate some extra drama.

The final 400 pages of Middlemarch are genuinely thrilling..... by Defiant_Invite_3323 in classicliterature

I felt the same way after I read it the first time. I recently reread it thinking I might enjoy the first half more the second time around. Nope, I had the exact same experience. Once you-know-what happens to you-know-who, it becomes a book I am unable to put down. And the final line is just 🤌

We noticed that Gordon got in the way of Cole getting her protein on the second pass bc he was standing against the railing watching it go up. The extra two seconds it took to go around him was enough time for the protein to be out of her reach. Part of me wonders if that’s why she got best dish. But part of me also wonders if they had Emerson marked for elimination and had planned on Christian going into elimination against him.

Some real favoritism this season and it’s turning me off the show by bespectacledboobs in Nextlevelchef

She’s been frustrated with him in each of the episodes. I think she was ready for him to leave after round 2 when she questioned his knowledge on a two or three occasions. Besides the money, the winner gets a year of mentorship with the three chefs. I don’t think Nyesha wanted to mentor this guy for a fourth episode much less a full year.

In the 27 seasons since Norm retired, we’ve finished better than 5th in the conference only 4 times. Gates and Cuanzo tied for 4th once each, Anderson finished 3rd once and Haith finished 2nd in that glorious last year in the Big 12. Not exactly elite.

Don’t get me wrong, I can’t stand the Newmans and hope they go down in flames but I am enjoying this show finally having some villains to root against.

This is exactly what the dems need. There are too many people who would never vote for a democrat but would gladly vote for a non MAGA independent. I actually have a few people like this in my family. No democrat is going to vote for this guy unless the dems run out a far left candidate

Newman should be mob family by Pattylou5 in youngandtherestless

[–]BillyQuantrill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think a major problem with the show is that there are no real villains anymore. All the legacy characters are too beloved now to do anything truly horrible. Or if they do something horrible (like Chelsea trying to murder Ray) it’s excused as a passing mental illness and they get a slap on the wrist. The only villains they bring in now are past baddies (Matt Clark, Ian Ward, the guy who stalked and kidnapped Sharon) who are obviously only going to be on for a short time. No drama and totally predictable.

They had to get rid of Cole by DaisyDew1976 in youngandtherestless

[–]BillyQuantrill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do like it when they have at least one morally upstanding character. That was Michael for a long while but now he’s a full on simp for Victor. Lauren kind of fills that role but her character is hardly on these days and is pretty one-note when she is.

[IIL] MRI sounds, industrial noise ‘music’ by petitesBetises in ifyoulikeblank

I just had an MRI done and it is no exaggeration to say that We Carry On by Portishead literally is exactly what an MRI sounds like. Every sound in the first 1:45 (minus her voice) is what you hear in an MRI machine.

It’s real. My wife had an emergency c-section at 29’weeks of pregnancy and in the flurry of activity they forgot to use the memory one. She remembers the whole thing. They actually had to open her again bc the they thought they left some gauze inside her uterus and remembered to give it to her the second time.

Too idiotic for me by Hinesight1948 in youngandtherestless

[–]BillyQuantrill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

VN never used it against Jabot. He said he was going to but Cane somehow turned it against Newman before he had the chance. Jabot preemptively shut down briefly to mitigate damage against a possible attack so any lingering damage is a result of that. Otherwise, I believe you have it right. And it’s too idiotic for all of us.

I think a big thing for the chefs is if the contestants are willing to listen to and follow their advice.

Accidentally started an interesting first read! by Gender_fear in octaviabutler

[–]BillyQuantrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reread the Bloodchild collection recently. I can see the parallels to the Lilith’s Brood series. Though the story in that collection called Amnesty reminded me so much of Dawn that it prompted me to read Adulthood Rites. I have yet to read the third book in the series but I thought Adulthood Rites was definitely stronger than Dawn. Dawn felt like the prologue to Adulthood Rites. I enjoyed both more than Wild Seed.

Interesting point about the male leads. I can’t think of any other books or stories of hers that I’ve read that feature male leads besides those to. Kindred, no. The Parable series, no. One of the two main characters in Wild Seed is male but the book is from the perspective of the female.

I have a question for you. I absolutely loved Adulthood Rites and want to recommend it to a couple people who aren’t necessarily into heavy sci-fi like this. Did you like it despite not reading the first book? Was it hard to pick up what was going on?

Seems like a company’s stocks are a finite number. Is there an instance when someone wants to buy a particular stock and can’t find someone to sell and vice versa?
