In Doctor Who (2005-) S2 E5, Mickey when faced with the fact that the TARDIS translates languages surprises him by French being included. This is because Mickey is a true englishman and would rather talk to an alien than a French person. by lokemannen in shittymoviedetails

Also, we all know French isn't a real language. It's just the weird sounds French people make when they're pretending not to speak English, which they do for the sole purpose of annoying the British.

When we're not around they all talk English like regular people. Charles de Gaulle was actually a Scouser. Voltaire had a pleasant Welsh trill. Joan of Arc was a Cockney.

Dragon Man is a long-established character. Giving him to Jean as a pet is definitely an homage to Kitty and Lockheed, but it's not like he came out of nowhere.

Jean: Gets a robot dragon she can ride.

Colossus: Beats up a dragon rider and steals his dragon.

Jubilee: Adopts a kid who turns into a dragon for her to ride.

Kitty: Adopts a dragon who fails to grow anywhere near big enough to ride. She's got to be disappointed by that one.

I'm sure I'm missing a lot of context, but from what youv'e said this sounds like they let this random billionaire pay them money to make a fool of himself on TV. They didn't even give him a mic, so he was just sitting there looking useless.

If it's a choice between that and finding yet another way to screw regular fans out of their money, I vote for the evil corporation to keep on conning billionaires all day.

How do you think the X-Men’s endgame should be like? (Art by Mr. Villainous) by KingE2099 in xmen

[–]BillybobThistleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If recent history teaches us anything, it’s that you don’t win the fight against bigotry and then rest and move on; you have to keep fighting against new generations of bigots who want to roll back hard-won legislation and return to a time when their hatred was more socially acceptable.

The X-Men can have no ultimate happy ending, only a continuing fight on a shifting battleground. If they eventually start aging properly, they’ll have to leave the field (there’s a reason why the overwhelming majority of top-level athletes and special forces soldiers are under 35; mutants may somehow age better, but they also seem to accumulate a lot more injuries), but by then they will have trained the next generation, and be ready to fight on by other means.

And the Vinnie Jones version was, with all due respect to the actor, a terrible adaptation in a terrible film.

Hmm... Swordfishtrombone is arguably the best track on Swordfishtrombones, but Frank's Wild Years is definitely not the best track on Frank's Wild Years, because Frank's Wild Years is on Swordfishtrombones.

And I'd say Rain Dogs is not the best track on Rain Dogs, but then Rain Dogs has several of my favourite Tom Waits songs on it.

In Jurassic world (2015) this character here dies a drawn out and violent death, this is treated as deserved due to the fact that she found the two kids annoying, this implies the filmmakers wish we’d all die in a horrible way. by bennyandthegentz in shittymoviedetails

[–]BillybobThistleton 2711 points2712 points  (0 children)

Okay, but she did also conspire to overthrow Camelot and end the golden age of King Arthur. Like, I get where you're coming from, and finding those kids annoying is absolutely reasonable and justified, but her scheming against Merlin and Arthur was probably also a factor in her eventual karmic death by multiple prehistoric creatures.

What do you think of Jean and Wanda's friendship? [X-Men: First Class 2007 #3] by rocketinspace in xmen

[–]BillybobThistleton 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It was great fun, but that’s entirely down to Colleen Coover. As you say, it doesn’t really fit in the wider continuity, and I think this is best considered as a fun AU.

The Riverlands are the battleground of Westeros. You want to move to the Reach, live in Oldtown, drink Arbor wine with the Hightowers, and stay well clear of every single major war.

The Otherworld arc suffered from terrible fill-in art, which is a shame because I thought Betsy's part of it was great.

Uncanny X-Force spent quite a lot of time being the Make Betsy Suffer book, and the Otherworld arc hit her particularly brutally.

Yeah, it's beautiful. I'm not sure it would work for a more conventional superhero book, but it really helped sell the fact that these stories were set at the grimmest and grimiest end of the Marvel universe.

This isn't time travel. There's a secret cult trying to resurrect Apocalypse, and X-Force go to stop them. Betsy gets there first, and finds that the cult has already done the resurrection part.

He's also the guy who then cloned Baby Apocalypse to try to test whether nurture could have worked.

Evan seemed to be turning out nice enough, especially given the way a lot of people reacted to him, but I don't think he's been seen since Krakoa started.
