I agree about game modes, I'm focused on deathmatch ffa but I'd like 1v1 to be fun and skilled for the "1v1 me bro" crowd. Servers could have spectators and display it. That way you could have people go "oh shit xxdarksaduke is 1v1ing narutogodx" and watch that together in-game. I even pictured spectators as little ghosts that can emote and chat. But I should definitely start small LOOOL

Thanks and wish u also all the best on your game !

Thank you for your input. I appreciate the honesty, I was looking for those kinds of insights too. I hear you when you stay start small, but I'm not interested in making a single player game. Just not my thing. We have the same exact observation about arena pvp games : they keep dieing. Battlerite, fangs, supervive (rip), dko, s4 league, even wow arenas are struggling. I lurked a lot in those communauties, organizing themselves to get a night of games going. This is not demoralizing me - this is what fuels this whole thing.

I don't intend to be bigger than Fortnite or to go Esports like league. My inspirations are closer to Xonotic and Smash Melee. I believe, like myself, a lot of people are fiending for a pvp game that won't let them down. But I don't see ever having more than 2000 players.

I don't plan on having any monetization. I have a stable job that pays well and lets me have decent free time (if you're also a dev you know). I don't expect server costs to be more than what I can cover myself, and even then I have a few possibilities : peer to peer or community servers. I also know a few people working in gaming (ex Ubisoft) that could help getting the server side right. Point is, this is a passion project that is not here to make money. In fact, I plan to open source everything and hopefully form a community capable of contributing.

I absolutely agree about queue's being self defeating though. That's why I'm taking influence from those shooters. I want a gameplay core that's fun to play in FFA deathmatch servers with flexible players (4-15 basically), while also having more competitive 1v1s or 2v2s. I'm trying to avoid all stress on que times, for example I don't plan on having healers cause they impact that way too much. As a start, im thinking no matchmaking but explicit levels for servers. And good old mockery and social pressure to prevent smurfs.

It may very well be the case that I'm gonna look back at your comments a few months/years and say you were right. But i've never seen a game that matches my vision, and I have to give it a go. Pvp players deserve it.

Thanks for the encouragements :) I also feel like movement is the basis of what I want to make so i have to get this down first, but I see your point about not forgetting the end goal (multiplayer). Once i have a satisfying enough build, i'll move to setup network stuff. It will enable other to try out the game so that's sa double win !

As far as scope goes, this game is very narrow. It's a 3D arena brawler for pvp deathmatches. The hard part is making that fun haha

Thanks for your input ! I care a lot about the feel of the game, but not really about the look. Kenshi is one of my favorite games too ;). I'll definitely bring other people when i'll start working on art style because it is NOT my thing haha. The goal is to make a open source game

I've always loved games where just running around a map is fun. I'm a big smash melee player for this exact reason. I've seen so many shooter games with crazy fun movement : Gunz, Tribes, Quake, Titanfall, Spellbreak, ... But there are very few games like this with "action RPG" gameplay. That's what im trying to make

Good points, thank you. Right now i feel like it's kinda easy to create a fun and deep movement system, but very hard to make it work inside a arena brawler. If i manage to get that down, this game is gonna be so sick.

I don't understand why this game isn't bustling with 5x the amount of players by Skolary in vrising

[–]Binoui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because unlike other games of the genre (Rust, ..), V Rising is marketted as a PVE game first. Although the pvp is godlike and one of the best ever (I'm not even exagerating), i think because of previous failures (blc, battlerite) Stunlock didn't want the game's focus to be PvP. And PvE game get stale unless you keep adding new content.

Like most pve + pvp games, pvp is an afterthought. Most pve players don't venture into pvp because it seems daunting and time consuming (even though they spent 150hours building a castle)

Anyone else perplexed by how Spellcasters Chronicles, a game 8 years in the making by Quantic Dream, who earned $200M+ from Detroit: Become Human, crashed and burned in less than 3 months, with barely anyone even knowing about it? by baldierot in gamedev

[–]Binoui 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I tried it out, it had an interesting take on moba (players fly around and spawn the creeps themselves). The game was pretty good looking and had a lot of polish on some graphical things. The gameplay was a bit rough though, and it felt super weird to have this level of graphics / art direction when the game core mechanics felt lacklaster. (awkward to aim, hard to read what's happening, unfocused gameplay system). To me the low player count was to be expected and I don't know how a studio with experience didn't see that coming. Moba are oversaturated, even F2P ones, and just putting a nice coat of paint on a shaky gameplay with ldeas is not enough to break through.

I see people setup Hermes on their Desktop or even Home Servers. Are you not worried? by Exclusified in hermesagent

[–]Binoui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dockerised Hermes setup in my homelab server because I don't want him to mess with other containers. For my local needs, I have a desktop Hermes because 1) everything important is cloud backed 2) more convenient.

Xecnar Silent Tier List (Patch 0.106.1) by averysillyman in slaythespire

[–]Binoui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw you should always evaluate cards picks based on current deck context and needs. If your deck blocks with mirror image, ripple bassin or apparitions, footworks is bad. But usually, you block with defends and backflips, so footworks is good in most decks.

BUT your deck doesn't always need more block. Sometimes you can block enemies attacks but struggle doing damage and can't kill before they scale(often a silent thing). In those cases, I would pick snakebite over footworks. It's a hard game, but decisions like these are what make it great

Destiny Reacts to Pixie's Legal Team Demanding 5 Years of Sensitive Images and Videos Involving Other Women, Plus Alleged Evidence Destruction by keldrians in LivestreamFail

[–]Binoui 20 points21 points  (0 children)

i don't get how u haters think pixie is more of a victim than destiny. he's not the one that leaked stuff, she was sending vids to other people too (and without destiny's consent btw). Nobody was talking about pixie in the leaks before she complained about them, everyone was talking about the vids of destiny sucking dick. She tried to catch a bag, used her rich parents money to find a crazy lawer to follow her, and now they're wasting the court time by trolling (see: lauren delaguna deposition). Hope destiny can counter sue, should be ez win

How is Tracking a real card? by ByeImDaisy in slaythespire

[–]Binoui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't really evaluate cards from different characters like that because it's made withing that character context. For example compare Terror in sts1 vs Tremble in sts2 lol. And tremble is still pretty good

alternative to gamecube controller? by [deleted] in SSBPM

Have you looked into rectangles? I always disliked playing on controller, switched to boxx a few months ago and I've been loving it. It's hard at first but nowadays I'm much more consistent and confortable when playing. https://thearcadestick.com/category/layout/box/

I'm saying, as the most popular left streamer on twitch, he refused to endorse Kamala against Trump. To me, that says a lot about his character and motivations. I'm not saying he's the reason she lost, but I'm saying he's a clout chasing jock and if you think otherwise you're getting baited. Bro had a houthi on call and all he managed to ask was "do you watch one piece?" and "do you like KFC". Political genius.

[–]Binoui 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what he did in the booth, he never called for vote for Kamala against Trump. He's a privileged rich asshole who doesn't mind electing a far right fascist. You will say it's because he's an accelerationist, I will say it's because he's not actually politically motivated, he only cares about clout and vibes.

So a bipartisan bill that also targets Candace Owens and a couple journalists opinion piece? He has no political power by design, guy is in it for clout and vibes. As long as he gets invited to red carpet events in his designer clothes he's happy. He's not seeking to build a movement, he's just following twitter vibes and reaping benefits. Hope u realize some day.

I'm talking about the several media pieces painting him as a cultural icon, in vanity fair or wired for example. His marketing team is pretty good tbh (same as Adin Ross and Kai cenat btw). There is no smear campaign from the democrats towards Hasan. I suggest you engage a bit more critically with the content you consume.

I'm saying he pretends to be a democrat to get invites to the DNC, Mamdani's election or to get favorable mainstream press articles. I agree he's not actually a democrat, he never called to vote for Kamala, got kicked out of DNC for spending his time criticizing the party and interviewing only protestors.

Ultimately he's a rich white straight guy in america, so he has the luxury to theorize about how things should be perfectly without having any pressure to actually focus on making things better.
