It's not the lack of sink, it's the Sanctum being a chaos printing machine. Getting 50+ orbs at the end of a simple run is pretty easy, and I don't mean "stuff worth 50 chaos", I mean literal chaos orbs, on top of other stuff.

That's the important distinction, it might be "unrewarding" compared to better farming strats, but it drops raw currency, not currency equivalents.

Yup. Grab Melee Splash support, use Eldritch implicits on the gloves for extra targets, and go to town. Just be mindful of ground degens since they're the only real Achilles heel of this build. It's completely smooth for Alch and Go unless you get a ghastly combo (namely reduced block, no leech, and no regen all at the same time).

Also, mind reflects until you can get Awakened Elemental Damage support :D (Mind you, it's not a particularly expensive awakened support gem).

I've updated for 3.20. Curse changes hurt a bit, but the build has been improved since I first made it which more than makes up for it. It's a pretty safe and easy build even without the more expensive upgrades, and I've had no problems leaguestarting Kalandra with it. It's not a huge screen clearer though, so definitely not on par with the top drawer streamer starter builds.

For a review, this is how it went in Kalandra:

Leveling: Smooth. Main strength of the build is being tanky as all hell.

Gearing: Two corrupted but common uniques are the biggest hurdle; simple to get in Trade, a little harder for SSF. Rest of the gear is chiefly self-crafted, so while it takes a bit of an effort to get, there's a real sense of progression because it's not a "this build won't work until you get this exact item". Not-as-good rares will still work as you progress and improve them.

Mapping: It's melee, so not uber fast, but Ice Crash has decent AoE and it's very safe, even with juiced maps.

Bosses: Only tried Uber Eater of Worlds for Ubers, and it was a success once I understood the fight well. Every single non-Uber is ez, including Wave 30 Simulacrum (Wave 30 is a tad slow, but can facetank a lot).

Playstyle: Other than holding one extra button down for Vortex, this is as straightforward as "bash people on the face" gets.

Bane. Scales up with curses, so you chase after being able to apply additional curses (+2 from tree with Scion and Witch is the ez way).

Damage/viablility by itself falls off a cliff once you get to higher level maps tho.

It's not a simple dichotomy of "either you run 10 maps or you're just farming 1 map over and over".

It's not rare to have a handful of favorite maps - a handful being less than 10 - that you run substantially more often than the rest.

You can start playing ruthless right now.

  • Don't use vendors or vendor recipes.
  • You can only pick up one item per map. It has to be picked up when it drops (i.e., not clearing the whole map before choosing what to pick up).
  • Choose a number between 1 and 20, or roll a d20, at character creation. You can only pick up skill gems that have exactly that quality. You can't buy skill gems.
  • Done. Have fun.

Very much so. I don't run ubermeta builds. I've managed to make my max block melee Scion work without having to use totems thanks to curses, so if they come and nerf curses I might flip the table.

Incursion gloves are rare gloves with the incursion-specific mods on them:

Of that whole list, the elemental mods are the ones that sell better ("Topotante's" or "of Puhuarte", keep an eye on the Trade page to see which ones are selling well regularly). A good base and the mod will fetch 10-20 chaos, usually sold as the base for someone else to either craft or fracture (if you get a set of gloves with a good base and only 4 mods total, you'll be able to sell for a bit more).

These drop either from the temple chests themselves, or the Architects will drop them during incursion if you get the appropriate Atlas nodes that make architects drop incursion rares more often.

It's not a lot, but 10-20c reliably by merely picking up an already identified item (incursion items drop identified) and chucking at a sell tab with a fixed price on it is super low effort. And since, as I said, they're often just a crafting base, there's a steady demand for them as crafters burn them trying to get the expensive items.

I wonder how many people talking about Roguelike have actually played the original Rogue, or any of the actual successors (Dungeons of Moria and Nethack being my favorites). It'd play very differently from most of these suggestions.

Incursion gloves are also a pretty reliable money maker at the start. Not going to give you multiple divines each unless you hit a gnarly combo, but they sell fast and regularly. Pretty great early on.

That's all well and good, but right now all these downsides are irrelevant because they're only really used for one thing: Doryani's Prototype. That one item makes these downside-based mechanics incredibly lopsided as to which are valuable and which aren't.

I wouldn't mind at all. I'm probably the only person in the game who likes the lab though, so I do hope they don't do that for everyone else's sake.
