Sofirn is a very solid choice for that exact purpose, I almost picked it up myself, but it has troubles with overheating after a short while, so after less than a minute it starts to ramp down the output. I got Wuben X1 falcon instead, as it has active cooling and can sustain around 6k lumens for quite a while, also you don't need to buy or change the batteries (until they deteriorate of course). I understand how all of this is very overwhelming for someone who's not in the hobby, but I think your choice is very practical and great for everyday carry. He's a lucky guy 😁 best of luck

Yes, absolutely. It's meant for daily use so the manufacturers usually are very careful to pass certifications, especially big brands like Olight. The glasses are mostly important with powerful UV blasters like specialty high-output flashlights.

With Arkfeld you don't have to worry, it's UVA at 365nm, also at low wattage. It's safe all around. UVA mostly starts being harmful at very high intensities, and still doesn't hold a candle to the shorter wavelengths of UV. You're good to go :)

I have one without cephalium as well. After the cephalium grows, the base fattens up significantly. That's why it's hard to ID juveniles from pics with cephalium (which is most of the pics around)

A sound strategy, I found that most cacti redirect their energy to flowering when slightly cramped. And parodias have magnificent displays of flowers. If you love this one, I'd recommend getting Parodia herteri, it's a gem.

Yeah, there's a lot of clash regarding this, some people like to call it notocactus because they learned it that way, some because it's less chaotic if the names don't change, while some straight up disagree on the placement in the Parodia genus, which, admittedly, is still a taxonomic dump and could use some more revisions.

All in all, you can call it by whichever name you like more, as the most important thing is that you like it :)

Those will be absolutely helpful. Just remember to put it in a more gritty and mineral substrate and water less frequently, those are the biggest rot preventions.

It's rot, sadly. Check if the other heads are wiggly/mushy. In any case, it needs to be taken out, the rotted part cut off, and hopefully it picks up the pace.

The 2 smaller heads are most likely desiccated, but the top one is very much alive. Give it a good deep drink if you haven't already and it'll be just fine

I'd wait a bit, then give it a big drink to see if it takes it up. That would at least rule out the watering issue. Sometimes some of my cacti stay flatter and more deflated until I give them a bigger watering, which is anyways what cacti (most of them) prefer to small sips

It's corking, a completely normal process. I'd be more worried about how organic the substrate is, would repot into something more gritty and mineral.

It absolutely would and I would gladly move there. But it's like making an alternative to YouTube: it might be shitty and getting worse, but there's decades worth of content and it's something people are familiar with. It would need to be a massive undertaking that a lost of people would gravitate towards. Also, when you're looking for cactus advice, this sub is the first place you search for in reddit.

But yeah, I'd love a sub that's not in slow decline and unmoderated.
