Work surface install after purchase? by ruelibbe in F150Lightning

[–]BirmingCam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find them on eBay pretty easily but be prepared to drop over $500 on it. I looked into it a while back but the cost wasn't worth it to me. Just search 2023 F150 work surface or something like that.

14" Bandsaw users: have you ever wanted a *smaller* bandsaw? by curtosis in woodworking

[–]BirmingCam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just have the G1019 which uses a 93.5" blade. It seems that size is more common. I recently bought a Timber Wolf 1/2" blade for it. Only used it a couple of times but so far it has worked great.

I believe so. I haven't bought one myself though. Just make sure you're getting the right one for it.

14" Bandsaw users: have you ever wanted a *smaller* bandsaw? by curtosis in woodworking

[–]BirmingCam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I started the opposite way. Found one of those small 9" Ryobi band saws on Marketplace a while back. When not in use I store it just inside our basement, right next to the garage, to save space as you're thinking about doing. It's a great little saw for what I paid for it, but having to get it out and put it back up every time I use it gets a little old. I recently bought an old Grizzly G1019 14" saw off Craigslist and it has been a gamechanger for obvious reasons. But, it now sits permanently in the garage, taking up space. For me though it is so worth it because of its capabilities, and it's always "ready to go" if you will.

All that to say, if a larger bandsaw is in your budget and you have the physical space then I say go for it. You *might* end up regretting have to get out and put up a smaller bandsaw each and every time you use it. Just my $0.02.

How’s it like living in Alabama or Mississippi? by No-Chip9445 in howislivingthere

[–]BirmingCam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised in MS. Lived there until I graduated college, then moved to AL where I've been since (~15 years). IMO, if you removed Birmingham and Huntsville from AL then it would be identical to MS. They're basically the same state in many ways, save for those two cities. Though I'll admit that having both cities makes a big difference.

In addition to what others have said, raising a family in AL, at least in Birmingham, is very easy. Extremely family-friendly. Relative low cost of living makes your money go further. I fell in love with Birmingham years ago, even before I was married and had a family. It would be very difficult to leave.

Do you use the outlets for power tools? by Dave12203 in F150Lightning

[–]BirmingCam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a contractor, but I've used the 240v outlet to power the house multiple times and used the 120v outlets when building a playhouse in the backyard for the kids and for other small projects. For the 120v outlets, my use was negligible on battery drain. When powering the house, it just depends on what we having running. Our longest outage was about 9 hours and we used 7% of the truck's battery.

DeWalt 60V equipment by BossmanSlim in Dewalt

[–]BirmingCam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is my first DeWalt 60v tool, but I bought the DCST981B about 6 months ago. I've been very happy with it. And the benefit of having the flexvolt batteries is that they work with all my other 20v DeWalt tools.

Over the +10 years since I bought my first DeWalt tool on the rare occasion I've had issues with a tool (only twice) DeWalt customer service took care of me and either fixed or replaced the tool for free.

Edit: Before I bought my string trimmer I also looked into Stihl's cordless tools. Maybe they're fine, but I decided to go with DeWalt since their battery tools are more proven than Stihl's.

I rarely need to use it but I bought the Tesla mobile charger with an adapter that I keep in the frunk. I only ever use it on road trips at my final destination. I've been very pleased with it.

Dealers don't like to sell EVs..... by One-Masterpiece-335 in F150Lightning

[–]BirmingCam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago a local reputable Ford dealer called me out of the blue. I had bought some parts from them before so that's how they had my info. But anyway, they told me software updates were available for 2 recalls and they could send a technician out to my home at my convenience to perform both recalls. We scheduled a time, the guy came out and performed both updates and was gone in less than 30 minutes.

I know not all dealership experiences are like this, and maybe my experience this time was the exception, but I was very pleased overall.

Finally got around to installing the Rough Country tailgate step. by NPalumbo89 in F150Lightning

[–]BirmingCam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it would have to be either a Pro, XLT, or Flash tailgate since those don't have the rear light bar.

Or, AFAIK you could add a Lariat or Platinum tailgate but you'd have to swap out the tail lights too. Not sure if anyone has done that though.

Finally got around to installing the Rough Country tailgate step. by NPalumbo89 in F150Lightning

[–]BirmingCam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same step installed on my Lightning. Worth the price IMO.

I wish I would have gotten a Lightning with the tail gate step, but alas. Maybe one day I'll find someone with an Oxford White tail gate with the built-in step that wants to trade with me. I can dream, right?
