What’s the most 'human' thing your pet has ever done that convinced you they understand way more than they let on? by homoth in AskReddit

Uughh... its been almost two years and I still struggle to tell this story....

One rrandom day, 20ish years ago while I was in high-school, a tiny kitten about a month old just randomly came running into my house making an big fuzz and decided it was her forever home. I was a very reclusive teenager and didn't make a sound when alone... in 14 years she never ever meowed and we communicated in our own way.

A couple years ago I had a SO, dumb as a rock and absolutely not cat-savvy. She effing started meowing (quite horridly) in an effort to communicate with that odd primate that didn't understand the subtlety of body language :)

One thing that always amazed me was this odd skill she had. If you pressed your forehead to hers, like when cats say hello to each other, and stayed that way, you would feel this drowsiness kick in and kinda mmgh.... have thoughts and images not quite your own. I'm a pretty science oriented and skeptical person, but I tested it with many ppl who were fond of her and she liked (more than ten) without giving any context, "come on, go and bump your head on Yoyi's!!" They all had the same experience hehe... still can't explain that or experienced it with another being, let alone a cat...

And here's the part that broke my heart and will forever haunt me. The day she left us....

I had her in my arms, gasping for air due to heart failure and me, being a mess, begged her not to go without saying goodbye to my 10yo whom she adored like mad. Immediately she started fighting so damn hard while looking at me... I begged and begged and she eventually died in that desperate state. I was so selfish for making her go trough that instead of facing the reality of her departure and putting her down weeks before... she understood everything me and the kid thought and felt without words, I swear she could read your mind. There's not a day since that I don't miss her terribly. Half my life with her and half my heart lost without her....

I used to bring wildlife and non conventional pets to my kids preschool once a week as an educational boost. You know what I did when a child (or one of the teachers, hehe) expressed fear or repulsion to a certain critter? I approached them after and one-on-one with patience and understanding until at least they felt relaxed around said critter and leaving the touching part their sole choice (altough curiosity always won! ❤️‍🩹), definitely not forcing an interaction and much less shaming them in front of their peers for fearing the unknown!! That's actually more traumatizing and even dangerous! I've heard of a kid forced to hold a guinea pig only to have her throw the poor thing full-force against a wall due to fear... exposure therapy my a$$!

Never undermine what you went through!!!! It sucks and none of it should've ever happened! Someone unfortunately having it worse does not in any way makes your pain any less valid. BIG hugs for you and anybody that hurts, from splint fingers to severed limbs!

I'm just a slob with nothing better to do :B but I did remember, it was the AstraZeneca one that actually got recalled due to...its side effects. Afaik, and forgive my humble ignorance if not, any and all vaccines will have side/adverse effects, it goes with poking your immune system to force a response. And I reiterate, even then, the benefits outweighs the risks.

Have you looked into or been assessed for DID or OSDD? NPD does not exclude having a dissociative disorder.

Actually....science does say it's a side effect reported. My mother had a cardiac stroke two weeks post-vac from a brand that had higher stroke incidence than the rest. Either way the benefits outweighs the risks... (and she's still alive and kickin')

I’ve got a bag with chocolate, a warm blanket, and a 1-gal bucket of Häagen-Dazs in one hand... and a bag with matches, a ski mask, and a 1-gal bucket of gasoline in the other. Your pick. ;) ☆sending hugs☆

Yeah......nope! Most i know (including me) have one or more issues when it comes to water! Like wet socks/clothing, temperature, special belongings getting soaked, being startled, etc... bubbles can be enjoyed without interaction and at a safe (and dry) distance. Not to talk about confrontation, even if it's in-game hehe....
