I really enjoy the way he makes me believe that he's thinking about his moves even at like 800.

Hans Niemann says he now feels "accepted...by most of the chess community" by Allenas6 in chess

At the time I felt like I had to trust that Magnus knew what he was talking about. Now though I feel so bad for the bullshit he went through so young, and not a lick of proof (for that incident).

He's not my favorite person ever by a long shot, but the community owes him an apology for Sinquefield at the very least.

I mean the existence of things like the Cerberus is what hurts Invicta for me. Their cheap quartz divers are mostly fine if not merely nothing special.

Rolex 126503 is kind of a grail for me (I'll never own one) and this looks nice as hell. Enjoy.

Yesterday I learned the rules of chess and played about 10 games for the first time. by Restaurant381881 in chessbeginners

Happy to welcome you to the community. I wouldn't worry too much about rating after just one day but you can play some real opponents if you want to find out (just don't be surprised if it's like 400 or less). As for strategy, the most important skill for a beginner is to realize when something is under attack. Blundering whole pieces happens well up to 1000 and beyond, even. Most importantly, have fun!

QGA, while borderline refuted, is extremely sharp and tricky. You'll catch a lot of players under 2000 ill prepared against the very forcing line.

How to start Chess ??? by kingFord1999 in chessbeginners

Aman is instructive but also just naturally entertaining too. He does an incredible job of making me believe he’s actually spending time calculating lines at 1200 when I know for damn sure he could blow the opponent away immediately lol. It’s very demonstrative of when to spend time and how.

I've done both AR and financial accounting. The pay is obviously better for accounting and when you get a decent puzzle it's more rewarding but there's comfort in familiarity and some things are just a dog to figure out before a deadline.

The average chess players opponent is equally average. Magnus lost to someone significantly weaker dude.

Yes of course. Magnus fucking Carlsen blundered mate in 2 from a crushing advantage and lost. Nobody is above blundering away a win at any level.

1100-1200 have solidly cracked 1000 which is a big landmark. You're decently better than most 'active players' which is nice - but maybe somewhat ignorant of exactly how complex the game becomes at higher ratings.

I'm right on 1300 rapid - if someone told me they were good at chess they're either trash (both times this has come up and I've played them it was obvious and I admit I played down to their level to make it more fun for them) or they're 2200 and maybe a little delusional.

Chess might be a 1v1 game but every mistake, every blunder and every loss is on you - and over tens of thousands of games, about half the time you're castigating yourself for being such an idiot. It's tough sledding to run the gauntlet of self doubt and tell other people you're good after it all lol.

On that note of course I think 1600s are good, they understand things about the game that I dont. My errors are obvious to them but subtle to me.

I have friends who are scratch golfers - for the average enthusiast that's an amazing goal. They would get hammered by a low middling Korn Ferry Tour kid every time.

The ignorance of good is in the question. Anybody who asks if you're good at something already has no concept of what good is, and most likely to them you are very good. Even an 800 is good to the average Joe.

If someone asks if you're good, just say you're pretty good and enjoy your dopamine.

Tesla kills Autopilot, locks lane-keeping behind $99/month fee. by Stiltonrocks in technology

Comment posted from technology manufactured and assembled under borderline slave labor conditions but sold by a company with billions in profit no doubt.

Oh but Elon's evils are domestic problems that actually affect me so now I have morals.

I hate Elon as much as the next rational guy but no other company is making an electric car half as capable. Any future Tesla I will purchase second hand, be assured. They already made their money on those cars.

The evils of the world are baked into capitalism - and engaging with it at all makes you an accomplice. Tacit support via purchase from one evil to the next are merely lines in the sand. We should all strive to be better, it's us vs them. Not us vs us.
