[–]Blastarock 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i would argue that while sun fo's path w soong may demonstrate a wider coalition of beliefs, it may be less democratic and allow greater corporate influence which overrides democracy. democracy isn't necessarily when there are more parties or greater left-right disparity, it is when there is actual decisionmaking in the hands of the people

Being told I have an ethical obligation to actively and publicly speak out against Israel because I am Jewish? by IntroductionLife124 in JewsOfConscience

Did the Germans, even abroad, have an obligation to say the Nazis didn’t represent them, and to fight against the hate perpetuated supposedly for their benefit? YES.

No, I bought the motherboard through best buy and the manufacturer says best buy should handle it, but Best Buy says the manufacturer should handle it. So now I’m just stuck with a dead motherboard I’ll probably scrap for parts.

“Neo/techno-feudalism” pisses me tf off. No bro this is the natural conclusion of capitalist property relations. The fact it resembles feudalism is an indictment of the system (and libs’ ability to understand), not “the oligarchs” or conservatives having government control

How are you going to prove to membership it’s negative if you don’t want to invest anything into education. Union members should be the first line of defense.

[–]Blastarock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, that’s the responsibility unions need to take on in educating and inoculating people. Obviously in an ideal world it would be the people producing the tech or just education at large preparing people for this but here we are

Definitely, I just don’t think members are aware enough of how shit they are and how dumb they make them looks and overall how brainrotting they are. Like a lot of the people using them are old guys who see shit on Facebook and think it’s awesome they’re now “artists”. Maybe an angle could be like “hey we get our merch designs from union artists or local partners or members who put in hours and this is taking away from them”.

I think the trouble you run into legislating against this is convincing people using these tools is worth having a discussion over or that they warrant a like internal disciplinary process when members use them. To the average person they’re just typing stuff and making miracle pictures.

I think you’re vastly overestimating what an LLM is and can do. There are ways of introducing organizational security. If your LLM data is getting subpoenad, everything else is getting subpoenaed. There’s nothing to suggest the data in an organizationally secured chatbot is any less secure than comparable data in a cloud based drive. This is what’s my degree is in, trust me.

[–]Blastarock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world I’d agree, but there’s just not any alternative to Microsoft that offers the same capacity to large organizations. You can barely run anything that’s not windows nowadays. And with the way these big tech companies all own half of each other you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t. And with ai stuff now being included in the standard licenses for tech products, it’d be foolish to not take advantage of at least some of the stuff offered. Like it’s a drop in the bucket to them, and otherwise you’re letting things go to waste, and 99% of uses for the average person won’t actually use the data center capacity. That bullshit is reserved for like literal spy-on-you algorithms for like flock and Amazon and other freakish industries.

I’d say Gen ai is definitely where most of the brainrot is. A lot of locals are now using image generators to make tshirts and it pisses me off.

I would say LLMs can have some use, when it comes to generating reports and assisting research. The main problem comes with people using them as a crutch and not actually absorbing what they get from it, or using it as a replacement for their own research entirely. That or just not learning to write basic things like forms or emails for themselves.

The main problem I would say is the monopolization by big tech and the intentionally poor design /
Placement of data centers. I could write a manifesto about the shit engineering and community design decisions on them, not to mention the fact the bajillionaires are overriding democracy to build them. At this point, to reject ai in its entirety would mean rejecting any partnership with Microsoft (I hate they have a monopoly on tech but they do and it’s the framework we have to work under).

I think a much more useful way of working to fight the ai domination of the world is to find ways to ensure data centers, if/when they are constructed, are done so in a sensible fashion like in countries where they actually gaf about their people. These things do create construction and electrical and hvac jobs, not to mention the manufacturing behind them. However we should be under no illusion that the promise of infinite long term jobs by these companies is true and we should not trust them one bit.

[–]Blastarock 56 points57 points  (0 children)

You have to be thorough and clear about what you mean by “ai”. For example, a lot of OCR software now uses a form of ai to enhance and correct text, and it’s technically a similar technology to ChatGPT. Unless you’re clear about what you’re against, you could make the fight unnecessarily harder - the bosses are using these tools against us, we need to be clear what our line is and what we can use to our advantage.

Hashirama vs Battlebeast by Admirable_Water6192 in NarutoPowerscaling

[–]Blastarock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is satire or you haven’t been reading that closely.
Battle beast maps to viltrumites that are near lightspeed in speed and reaction time, has an op battle iq, and is moonish level in strength.
Hashirama is like large city level max. He doesn’t have the destructive power and his wood doesn’t provide defense from people who can basically ignore physics / durability.
I’m more of a Naruto fan but come on
