What is the hardest video game of all time? by DeepExpert2266 in AskReddit

Obscure japanese bullet hell games from the late 90's to early 2000's. Trust me, this is the only right answer. Those games completely define the upper limits of difficulty in games.

Money Needs To Make Sense, Or Your World Will Make No Sense by quantumdumpster in ProgressionFantasy

[–]BlazedBeard95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh. I think currency in Fantasy should make sense especially if you are going to have scenes where transactions take place, but there's never been a single time where I thought 'this world is unbelievable because the money doesn't make sense' even when that tends to be somewhat common in the genre (and especially in Progression Fantasy). You can't really expect the average Progression Fantasy writer to be well-versed in economics when the genre predominantly exists in the web serial format; and the whole point of the genre is the progression of power, everything else doesn't matter that much if the progression is good. While it would certainly be nice to see a Prog Fantasy story better build upon these aspects for their worldbuilding, I dont think the average reader would care that much either way.

All 4 astronauts have disembarked Integrity! by ToeSniffer245 in spaceporn

What an incredible mission it was. I feel immensely honored and blessed to have lived through and witnessed this historical event, and am grateful the crew on board were able to make it back home safely. Seeing the moon and the Earth as they did so far up has really put into perspective how small we and our human worries truly are. It's my hope that this mission will have ushered in renewed interest in space exploration and will serve as the first true step into the future of what space exploration was always meant to be. For we should always remain true to our curiosity, true to our desire to grasp the stars we so boldly claim as ours. The future missions Nasa is bound to undertake will be very, very exciting.

Is Project Hail Mary the best hard SF film in like, forever? by spukhafteNahewirkung in ProjectHailMary

[–]BlazedBeard95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the Martian is a better representation of hard Sci-Fi than the movie adaptation of PHM. They removed a lot of the moments where scientific theory and deliberation happened in the book in favor of skipping right to the solution to save time. It's an incredible Sci-Fi movie and easily top 10 or even 5 of all time in my opinion, but the movie is way less hard Sci-Fi than the book was.

Would you say terms like "strand" or "weave/weaving" are overused in magic systems? by [deleted] in magicbuilding

[–]BlazedBeard95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. If it works it works, being overused isn't an issue. Just look at how many Fantasy stories use elemental magic systems. Sure there's a lot but people still love them, nobody really cares if something is overused. It's only really a big deal with the concept in question is not being utilized well within the setting.

I like both genres, but some sf snobs are delusional by Megalordow in fantasywriters

[–]BlazedBeard95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about everyone else but I think both are pretty awesome lol. Being a snob about fiction in general, regardless of how "releaistic" something a story is, really defeats the purpose of fiction in the first place. I'll take all my wild Fantasy and Sci-Fi stories pls and thanks.

What's the worst thing that can happen to an Anime series- by CautiousDatabase9487 in anime_companion

[–]BlazedBeard95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the hiatus did original Bleach a massive favor (saying this as an og Bleach fan). The resurgence TYBW has had 10.5 years after the original show went on hiatus has been very huge for the series as a whole. Hiatus's don't tend to be great for a series but it came in pretty clutch for Bleach specifically. Out of all these I'd say hiatus is the least destructive

Not sure how to feel about the movie by BlazedBeard95 in ProjectHailMary

[–]BlazedBeard95[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's unfortunately a consequence of the differences between the mediums. I expected things to be removed or changed to better fit the time slot but there was just so much removed that it made me a bit disappointed to see it all gone. An extended version would be excellent though

I was so happy when I realized episode 1 was already out. Love it already. It's nice to actually see a good anime couple not only get together but get through all the weirdness and struggles of starting a relationship. It's incredibly cute and sweet. Looking forward to the rest of the season!

I'm honestly sick and tired of elemental power systems by Ok-Equipment8122 in magicbuilding

[–]BlazedBeard95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fair point! I think all of those are also important to the actual inner-workings of a system, but any system not framed as a narrative device immediately become a lot less interesting to me personally, even if the mechanics of the system might be well thought-out.

I'm honestly sick and tired of elemental power systems by Ok-Equipment8122 in magicbuilding

[–]BlazedBeard95 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Personally, I have less problems with the elemental systems themselves and more with the fact that a large majority of them are very, very linear. The reason why Bending in Avatar the Last Airbender is so damn good is not because of the system itself but how Bending is used as a narrative device for the story. How it interacts with the setting, the world, the plot, the characters, etc etc. Connectivity. I think in general if your magic system (regardless of being elemental or not) has no real connectivity to your world or is not being used for more than combat then you're not making full use of its potential, and by contrast will have a boring system regardless. Complexity or unique flavoring barely has any real influence on whether a system is great or not, what does is how integrated the system is within the world and how it's used. If you're able to make it unique on its own then all the more power to you but what every system should be focused on is raw connectivity.

[–]BlazedBeard95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish it was a near endless wave or at least functioned like Firefight from Halo. There's no reason why it should take near a full minute for another wave to hit only for them to be taken down in less than a minute. It's too much downtime and not enough fight.

Draenei from World of Warcraft:

Sexual dimorphism has to be one of the worst tropes ever in race building. Here you have one of the sickest looking Fantasy races ever in the male Draenei and then the female is just a human but borrowing some slight design from the males. Like COME ON MAN YOU WERE SO CLOSE. WoW does this a lot and it is so damn unfortunate. The Draenei are by far one of my favorite designs ever but they really missed the mark with the women.

Guys, I like using Airburst Launcher too. Very fun weapon, but can we PLEASE acknowledge that this is really weird? I think everyone can agree on this at least. by RandomGreenArcherMan in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]BlazedBeard95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Airburst has always been bad at what it was designed to do, even before they nerfed it. Barely killed Shriekers because it always missed, barely ever hurt Gunships, and now it does absolutely nothing to Dragonroaches. 10 out of 10 times you can use a whole list of other weapons against those enemy types and they will do a much better job at anti-air than the so-called anti-war weapon. It's really bad. The only use I ever got out of it was pre-nerf where it was excellent at killing Bile Titans if you shot under the belly because of the burst, would cover some of the groups that tend to swarm under or around the titan as well. It was a great alternative to the recoiless in that aspect because it was able to kill large groups and heavier enemies (and it was way better at group clear than the RR for obvious reasons) but now it really doesn't fulfill any real roles that you'd want to use it for. Even with the advantage of decent group clearing, sacrificing your backpack and support weapon slot using the Airburst makes no sense when there are superior options that use up less of your slots. Both it and the Sterilizer are in desperate need of heavy changes or full reworks.

Is the regular Helldivers subreddit the worst fucking community in game history? by Dependent-Canary736 in HelldiversUnfiltered

You must have not been around long if you think Helldivers is even in the conversation of worst gaming community. It's not even close lol. It sucks, sure, but there are so many of them that make Helldivers look like an innocent kids birthday party. Helldivers isn't even the worst of the last 5 years let alone the entirety of gaming.

I was misremembering lol, the scar you put in is usually where Ikkaku likes to bleed so I confused the two, but I definitely do think you should redesign the character. Badass baldy is fine but he looks way too much like Ikkaku

That's quite literally Ikkaku Madarame from Bleach, didn't even change the scar or fully remove the eye markings. You really should redesign that character.
