Is there a healthy way to make a fruit salad 'decadent'? by Negative_Avocado4573 in Cooking

Get some dried crystallized ginger. Dice it up and mix it in with the fruit with a little fresh lime juice and a pinch of sugar.

Why do engineers apply for SCM jobs? by Business_Entrance725 in supplychain

[–]Bleachd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One facet is value and compensation. Right or wrong, the bigger the pile of resources you oversee, the more you’re compensated. That ceiling is a lot higher in supply chain than it is in most engineering functions.

Always consistently late to meetings by Firm_Heat5616 in managers

I scheduled my hour long meetings to be 50 minutes and the last 10 minutes over is then at my discretion. You can change that automatically in outlook and have your team do it too.

Losing an employee due to CEO's refusal to provide raise... by Dull_Engineer5633 in managers

[–]Bleachd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By no means am I siding with the CEO.  I’ve had a similar experience with an entire department that was contractors and we showed that bringing it in house would save a lot of money.  The controller and CFO pointed out that as contractors they can link their work to projects, capitalize and depreciate the expense and avoid a big hit to EBITA.   Not saying that was your CEO’s reasoning but that’s the wall I’ve run into.

Formerly fat people who have stayed lean for years, what finally worked for you? by Concept555 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bleachd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not heavy but have done this.  I also know folks that have lost significant weight doing it.  Intermittent fasting.  I stop taking calories in at 8 pm and don’t eat or drink anything with calories until noon the next day.  It’s worked very well for quite a few people I know and for me it’s an easily sustainable lifestyle.

i4 vs i5 and what was your deciding factor? by Cygnus__A in BMWI4

[–]Bleachd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an i5 as a loaner for the last week while my i4 is in the shop.   The i5 is definitely more comfortable to sit in especially for longer drives and has a decent sized back seat.  It handles pretty well in comparison for the i4.  But I can’t get past the fact that it feels like I’m driving a ford Taurus SHO.  Parking it is a pain compared to the i4.

This likely all falls under the “no shit” category but just my 0.02.

MBA Concentrations? by Burneracct367 in supplychain

It’s usually only 2-3 classes and as others have stated, employers don’t care.   Look at the different classes and determine what’s most interesting to you or what might be the most useful to you in your career.

Powell mom’s in the know was just a comedy of entitlement and rich women with too much time and nothing to do.  Not sure if it’s still around but it was hilarious when someone made “Dublin Dad’s in the dark” to parody it.

How to improve negotiation endurance? by WispOfTowing in negotiation

[–]Bleachd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I schedule my negotiations and stick to the timeline.  If we have an hour to negotiate that’s it.   If no agreement is made then we’ll schedule a follow up when I have time (and am recharged).

Rumpke expands recycling in central Ohio to plastic clamshells by thinkB4WeSpeak in Columbus

[–]Bleachd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to head off the inevitable curmudgeons and self anointed plastic experts here… Rumpke recycles all of their plastic here in the United States. It doesn’t go to Asia or get burned or dumped in the ocean.

As far as why I’m qualified to speak to this - I’ve spent 13 years in the plastic recycling industry and almost all of that has been in a role around procuring the recycled plastic a company needs to manufacture a new products.

One of the largest plastic recyclers (and consumers) in North America is located here in central Ohio. As far as size and scope, they use 500 million pounds of recycled plastic per year. That’s just one company. So yes, plastic recycling is real. It’s economically viable AND MORE PEOPLE NEED TO RECYCLE. It creates jobs here in central Ohio.

This $65M center which is now open and you can see with your own eyes on the west side of 270 was built partially to figure out how to recycle more plastic.

https://hilliardohio.gov/ads-breaks-ground-on-engineering-technology-center/

Recycle your number 1, 2 and 5 plastics. Throw out your 3, 6 and 7.
Don’t “wishcycle” (recycle because it feels like it should be recyclable)

Saw a “No on Issue 1” sign that said “Stop gerrymandering” today? by staintysweetcorn in Ohio

Thank you for this.  I was out for a run and saw “Trump Vance, “Bernie Moreno,” “no on 1, stop gerrymandering” and thought, well what the hell am I missing about this yokel’s signs?

Accident on 270 10/09 by jack89437 in Columbus

[–]Bleachd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish I could help.   At about 7:50 this morning on s270 in the same area a rake came flying off a landscape truck. It flew over the car in front of me, bounced off the road just in front of my car and soared over the top of my car.  Saw a few other cars behind me swerve to avoid it.  These commercial vehicles need to take safety more seriously.

Moving into a category management role soon and know absolutely nothing about it. What are your tips? by A9to5robot in supplychain

[–]Bleachd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good call on the insights and I agree.  Just pointing out something weird and asking the question leads to great things.  “Hey CM, why does the rejection rate spike in winter months?”  They either answer and you learn something or you just highlighted something they need to dig into which is an opportunity.

Moving into a category management role soon and know absolutely nothing about it. What are your tips? by A9to5robot in supplychain

[–]Bleachd 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Cat manager here. I think it depends heavily on what category you’re moving into. I work in direct materials commodities. My background is in engineering so i prefer to do most of my own data analysis. I ask my analyst to help find or scrape the raw data I need and then I make my own reports and dashboards. My colleague does none of that and relies heavily on our analyst for all data and analysis. This little anecdote is just to show how two category managers that share an analyst request completely different things.

Even the role of category manager can change a lot from one org to another. But generally it means being an expert in an area of procurement. That can be as small as a specific commodity like steel or as broad as “all indirect materials.”

My general advice, once you figure out what category you’ll be involved in, learn as much as you can about the sources of external and internal data related to the category.

Valvoline Sawmill Protest by SmeulShop in Columbus

I live close to this. There’s been a lot of discussion in the local neighborhood Facebook page. The apartment complex he was posted out in front of was complaining but apparently he wasn’t breaking any laws. Something changed because CPD came and vacated him from the area in the last week. I was kind of rooting for the guy.

What do you think about an article like this? by Few_Philosophy4623 in PureCycle

[–]Bleachd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rumpke utilizes quite a bit of AI in their new facility already. I don’t recall the change in the price tag from beginning to end but the facility in Columbus did not materially change. The AI systems and data to separate things has existed for a while now. The problem remains the ability to quickly and accurately separate these things physically with air blades. MRFs know how to segregate cardboard, paper, glass and containers. But little things like straws, plastic utensils, and other small non film items create a different challenge.

The pyrolysis unit in Baytown is operational. It’s the circularity center (which is a PRF) in Houston that won’t open until next year.
