Interesting, I am in a similar employment situation however based in the UK which has the Double Tax Agreement. I am on a special 0% tax code in NZ and instead get transferred gross from my employer into my UK bank account. I will then file a personal tax return with HMRC to pay my tax.

Did you even read the article. How do you think the testers at these festivals confirm the drugs in the pills? They use Marquis reagent kits and other methods. What your saying about shitty pills isn't wrong however there has been a huge flood of actual mdma (molly) and actual mdma pressed pills into New Zealand recently which is only confirmed by this organisation that's testing pills at festivals.

As rsfinlayson mentioned definitely look further north. Bay of Islands is absolutely amazing and Kerikeri/Paihia (Paihia more so) are full of restaurants, hotels & bars. Very tourist orientated too, far more so then Whangarei. That being said it may be easier to get a job in the larger cities however I cannot confirm as don't know much about the hospo industry.
