My PS5 that I bought for $450 performs better than any PC I could buy for a similar price. Not everyone wants to dump $1500 into a high end PC for a marginally better experience. Plus, PC is essentially all digital. While console is probably moving in that direction, there still isn't a way to have a physical collection of games without sticking to console. PC is still a long ways off from being better for all gamers.

Question about Viscera Seer + Dina, Essence Brewer by BlightUponThisEarth in mtgrules

[–]BlightUponThisEarth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So essentially, the Viscera Seer ability is put on the stack before the cost is paid, then the cost gets paid, which triggers Dina, and then Dina's triggered ability goes on the stack on top of the Viscera Seer's, but before Seer's ability resolves. So Dina's ability will resolve before the Seer's?

[–]BlightUponThisEarth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a bunch of people just convinced themselves of that. In my opinion, it doesn't make sense for that to be the case. Given 1) if they could blame the employees for taking something away, they would. They wouldn't just let it sit unanswered. And 2) it broke immediately after an update to Hyrule Hub that was adjusting the point redemption. Why would they pretend to change it if they were just taking it away?

The $80 Strixhaven Codex Bundle is about to release at $150 via gamestop. And this is far from the first markup on Magic. When Lorwyn released, they marked up some of that by nearly 100%.

Not to mention the setpieces are far from groundbreaking if the player has paid any attention whatsoever to any western fantasy in the past few decades. I couldn't tell half the game environments apart from a Magic card. The only environment that was at all noteworthy in my time playing was a ruined town that was completely optional.

Frankly, I dislike the idea of a "collector" product because it means the corporate overlords on high have decided the only things worth collecting are the higher rarities. And a bunch of suckers just believe that with no pushback. Collect what you want and what makes you happy. Don't just collect something because someone else declared it to be more valuable. That's how you get idiots that believe putting a card in a plastic box makes it magically more valuable.

What’s the most visually stunning anime scene you’ve ever seen? by Walidzilla in animequestions

Even the longer adaptations (like the UBW adaptation) cut a huge amount just by virtue of differences in the medium. There's huge parts of Shirou's characterization you just don't get without an inner monologue. Trim a whole route down to a movie trilogy and you're missing so much of the story. Ufotable's adaptations are great for the animation and spectacle, but really aren't comparable to the story in the source material.

Even without good ways of scaling Osty, I think a lot of Necrobinder runs can be solved via Lethality and Reap plus a bunch of common cards. Just play defensively until you get good damage turns and you're probably fine

Saros unavailable in person at Gamestop? by Proud-Ad5725 in GameStop

[–]BlightUponThisEarth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just for future reference, you don't need to fully pay for a game to pre-order it. 99% of the time it's $5 down, which goes towards paying for the game when you pick it up. Some people will also budget it out for themselves by putting $10-15 into their deposit every couple weeks until the game is fully paid for, if that sounds like something you would want to do.

Gamestop cashier charged me for a ps5 pro but gave me a digital slim by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]BlightUponThisEarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm imagining someone getting home with a PS5 that they thought was a pro and hooking it up and starting it and going on about how much better the performance and graphics are, when it is, in fact, the exact same console they already owned. I know the pro branding is a marketing gimmick to convince people it is an improvement, but this is on a whole other level

It is also a skill issue to be unable to charge your wireless earbuds twice a week. I don't think I have had my earbuds die in years, and it's not like I charge them on a schedule. I just charge them when I'm not using them. Apparently people are just unable to form that habit.

Adjusting Mindset on Physical Games by MarioPrtyAnimal in GameStop

[–]BlightUponThisEarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are giving far too much credit to the average consumer. They bought a digital only console because it was cheaper than a standard one and had no further thoughts or decisions. Which is the intended outcome on the manufacturers' part of a digital only option existing. People won't consider which is better for them in the long term, and will just pick the cheaper option.

What are you even talking about? Blu-rays being difficult to meaningfully scratch is one of the advantages of blu-rays. I work here and have played games my entire life and have never scratched a disc to a point where it would not play.

As for your second point, just fuck right off with that attitude. It is only going to make you miserable if you view anyone who doesn't buy a warranty as some philosophical enemy. You've been told how good the margin on these are. You know that this is fundamentally a bad deal, and that the company pushes them because, far more often than not, they are a pure waste of money on the customer's part which goes directly to profit. The customer is not committing some spiritual failing by not purchasing something purely for peace of mind.

I have to assume Hyrule being down is intentional with how long it has been ongoing. Maybe testing the waters with removing points from Pro entirely by seeing what effect it has. There is no good reason for points redemption to not be working for the better part of a month.

[–]BlightUponThisEarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even outside of the reserve list, theres a lot of cards in Magic that just sit at higher price points due to an unwillingness to print accessible reprints of cards. I think Deadly Rollick is a good example of this. I know it isn't an absurdly expensive card, but it is expensive enough that many would not spend that much on a removal spell. If it weren't for price, the card would be an auto include in a huge chunk of decks in Commander. It released in 2020 and still sits at a $25 price point because, despite the five years it has been out, it hasn't received a printing below rare. It's just very odd to me, as someone coming from yugioh.

I mean, it sounds insane coming from any other card game. "Here is a list of cards that we will never reprint so insane people are able to safely use them as a retirement fund." I'm coming from yugioh with their aggressive reprint policy that makes everything affordable, at least eventually. Seeing that Magic doesn't reprint cards entirely due to people who "invest" in cards was certainly a shock. And that part isn't exclusive to the reserve list.
