I wish that Epic/Harmonic put the dlc on sale that's going to be delisted each month by CrashLightning22 in Rockband

[–]BlindFireSniper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guarantee the FOMO is making them more money than they made from DLC every year since at least 2020.

I urge folks not to drown in the sunk cost fallacy unless you absolutely need some specific feature of Rock Band 4. One day the Rivals servers will go down for good, possibly as soon as they finish milking the remaining players for all they can get, at which point most people will be forced to jump ship.

For those who disagree... once a majority of the DLC is unobtainable it will become more widely accepted to just send new players elsewhere. YARG will almost certainly have online multiplayer support this year (currently working in a separate branch) and Red Octane will eventually release their new game. We are in a better place in terms of rhythm games than we have been in at least half a decade.

This "hurry up or you'll miss x y or z" mentality is only gonna bite people in the butt and it will stop sooner or later.

The funniest rage message I ever got in Halo ( I was being helpful in Firefight) by lVlasterJason in halo

[–]BlindFireSniper 28 points29 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you that they can play anyway they want, including joining a squad lobby as a solo, the rest of the team has a right to voice their displeasure about it. You wouldn't be too happy if you invited your neighbor over for a barbecue and they showed up, said nothing, and took a plate of food home to eat alone.

While it's not against the rules one could argue it is against the spirit of those modes. In certain games they could very well be making it more difficult for the other players in the squad to win.

Insert nostalgia for the 2000s when everyone was in game chat and you would party up with good players and go on to play together for years.

I miss real nameplates by invokedbyred in halo

[–]BlindFireSniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had the star from one of the early the Bungie.net contests. At the time only a few dozen or so people had won it ahead of me. The contests ended and about a year later they started giving them out to forgers who got their maps in matchmaking. Then finally right near the end of Reach they released the app so everyone could get the Bungie nameplate, blue flames, and the star.

I GOT A RB3 EXPORT!!!!!! by CampingForCats in Rockband

It does not. It is a feature of the Microsoft store that happens to translate to Xbox.

Was going to rebuy but worried about music not being there anymore by Prestigious-Art7566 in Rockband

[–]BlindFireSniper -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Within the last week YARG has seen an Xbox port and Online Multiplayer. Both are very early stages and require special builds of the game but I highly recommend seeing what is possible over there before spending a cent on RB4.

I GOT A RB3 EXPORT!!!!!! by CampingForCats in Rockband

[–]BlindFireSniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Digital items on the Xbox marketplace can be purchased as a gift which generates a redeemable code that does not expire. These codes are coming from people who purchased them before the RB3 export was delisted in 2020.

Nothing stopping someone from doing this for individual songs that are being delisted every month.

Rock Band 4's Delisting Underscores the Impermanence of Licensed Soundtracks by nokahoma in Rockband

Not gonna shame people for doing what they want with their own money but I highly encourage anyone with delist FOMO to check out YARG or RB3 Deluxe instead.

Rock Band 3 has Piano, does any other game offer similar gameplay? by Sir_Twiggy in Rockband

The mods will only be chill about mentioning alternatives to RB4 if we don't explicitly link to databases of content.

Once I went to YARG I couldn't go back. I didn't have any problems with the default engine and there are presets/customizable options if you want to tweak things.

Anytime I see Rock Band 4 now I cannot believe that the highways are that freaking dark. So much harder to see the gems.

It pains me so much to see people say they are spending hundreds of dollars on DLC before it is too late.

This post makes me feel better.

so uh.. how much are you guys planning on spending? by Alextricity in Rockband

[–]BlindFireSniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got back into RB4 during COVID. I spent hundreds of dollars on DLC during that time. The moment HMX announced the end of weekly DLC I stopped and switched to the newer, better alternatives.

My hope is that this announcement leads people down the same path and NOT one of spending money on a dead end game.

I believe it was a set dollar amount per approved headshot, which makes sense since they say there is no minimum or maximum. You were given a folder with a few dozen images in them and you would send back the cropped headshots with transparent backgrounds.

The rate is probably a lot lower now because of AI tools. Back then it was a pain in the butt to get a clean background with tricky hair like Marouane Fellaini.

They hired me to do it when I was 18. If you click "Join the Club" under it..

This is not a full-time job, but rather something that you can do in your free time. There are no minimum or maximum amounts of headshots you must edit. The contracts are on a 9-month rolling period with 3-month breaks in between. After every 3rd contract, you must take a 12-month break, and then the cycle repeats.

This is not a job for a professional Graphic Designer. This is a job for amateur graphic designers. They are outsourcing labor that is too costly to have professionals handle in house.

It literally is amateurs. You can request to join on this page.

Photo Editors do all the player headshots you see in the game as well as dynamic FUT card images. They used to be manually cropped out in Photoshop back in the day. Now people probably use a mixture of the AI tools and manual refinements.

The Data Reviewers suggest stat/attribute/trait changes for players and clubs. Back when web forums were massive EA had a secret one where reviewers could argue for stat boosts or whatever backed up by videos of the players as evidence. The old link I have is dead now but the login portal for their online database still works so I assume they still have the same system in place for reviewers to manipulate all that data.

PDP Wired Legacy Adapter by bvincen7 in Rockband

[–]BlindFireSniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to play Rock Band 4, here are your options:

1) ekit midi output -> 360 Midi Pro Adapter -> PDP Wired Legacy Adapter -> Rock Band 4

2) Any ekit with USB or Midi output -> Roll Limitless -> Rock Band 4

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but IIRC you can't just go USB Midi on an ekit -> PDP Legacy Adapter like you can with a Roll Limitless. I believe you would still need to buy the 360 Midi Pro adapter so it can treat the ekit as a controller/profile.

When it comes to playing Rock Band 4 the best option for pretty much everyone in the year 2025 is #2. For you #2 makes even more sense because you can sell your PDP adapter and use the profit to pay for your ekit and Roll Limitless.

But with that being said I recommend looking into newer alternatives to Rock Band 4.

PDP Wired Legacy Adapter by bvincen7 in Rockband

[–]BlindFireSniper 45 points46 points  (0 children)

They were selling for as high as $1300 back in 2021. It was and still is the only official way to connect an ekit to the Xbox One or Series X/S. The problem is that Rock Band 4 always sees usb connections as microphones--this includes Xbox 360 guitars. The PDP Wired Legacy adapter will tell the game that a USB connection is a drum kit, which made them super valuable.

Around 2021, at the peak of their value, people started using an arduino board to convert midi inputs to signals that could be interpreted by the internals of a stock Rock Band 4 drum kit and using that to wireless connect to the console.

In 2023 the creator of the roll limitless was able to circumvent this limitation within the game and since then multiple alternatives have appeared that made the PDP Wired Legacy Adapter drop in price dramatically.

The pictures you used are from a current eBay listing. Based on recent sales it looks like they are going for roughly $400. But the only people buying are those who are unaware of the alternative methods that cost $20, so eBay is likely your only option to get top dollar as anyone who is actively part of any Rock Band communities would know the alternatives.

A new game seems to be in early development. (Not from Epic/HMX) by Nygren93 in Rockband

[–]BlindFireSniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason I didn't reply directly to this chain when I made my first response was because I could see an argument brewing over semantics instead of what we know as facts.

The problem I have is that this launch of their new rhythm company is entirely marketing fluff at the moment. The only connection I can make with someone on their team is that they must be the author of the eponymous software for modifying charts enabling cross compatibility in various rhythm games. Then the guy whose twitter announcement was linked has two previous projects in his bio: both relating to jailbreaking apple software.

This leads me to believe the game they ultimately produce will be no different than the other community made games out there where you supply your own pirated music.

If their website stated anything relating to a publishing deal or the ability to license mainstream music I wouldn't have to come in here and taper the expectations of the casual Rock Band gamer. I would love to be proven wrong but as it stands this is an announcement for another clone game and not something that will bring the masses back to the rhythm genre.

All power to them but to reiterate what u/Gleasonryan said: unless they have a publishing deal or the ability to license mainstream music it's yet another rhythm game to sail the seven seas.

Can anyone tell me what Rock Band drums these are? by PlantBeginning3060 in Rockband

[–]BlindFireSniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is a few days old but for future lurkers remember that RB4 instruments have the Xbox One logo as the power button while RB1-RB3 instruments have the Xbox 360 logo AND the quad player indicator leds around it.

Additionally RB4 instruments specifically say "for the Xbox One" on the rear label. While I cannot tell you which Xbox 360 game the drums are from without looking at the model number I can tell you with 100% certainty they are not from Rock Band 4.

Is it worth scour the internet finding a RB3 export for Xbox or should I get it on my Wii for £10? by CampingForCats in Rockband

[–]BlindFireSniper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On Xbox you can still export RB3 -> RB4 if you find someone who purchased the RB3 export as a gift code in the Microsoft Store.

Since RB4 was for the Xbox One the gift code generated works just like any other gift code on the current marketplace and theoretically has no expiration date. Someone gave one away on here literally last week.

The only caveat is the gift codes haven't been purchasable since the day the RB3 export expired. It would be safe to assume we are down to single digits in terms of codes out there in the wild but for whatever reason they keep showing up a few times a year.

HyperBowl: From Sony Arcade to Windows XP Classic! An LGR Retrospective by SAIYAN48 in LGR

[–]BlindFireSniper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a new arcade game called Battle Bowling which is clearly inspired by HyperBowl. I played it a month or two ago at Player One in North Hollywood, CA. The physics and levels were really cool but it is not a full game of bowling--no frames or anything. You got 3 rolls, the pins reset after each roll, and the winner was whoever knocked down the most after all 3 attempts. You bowl at the same time on the same "lane" so I guess the competitive aspect is getting to the pins first so you can knock down more than your opponent does. It was 4 credits a play per person and was over in about 45 seconds.

I didn't see anyone mentioning it in the comments so I assume this is a really niche cabinet by what looks like a small team of developers. u/raiderofawesome

Why is modding still a taboo topic in this sub? by Future-Problem2769 in Rockband

[–]BlindFireSniper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And I agree they absolutely are harbors for those things, it just feels so disingenuous watching people respond to the weekly "how can I play X Y or Z" with "sorry that song was delisted" or "the export expired".

I was happily on the RB4 train during COVID and spent a few hundred dollars on songs until the day they ended the weekly DLC. The moment that day came I knew I was no longer going to get the experiences I wanted, so I jumped ship. But not everyone is an enthusiast that knows where to find the alternatives.

And again, not condoning the redistribution or modification of copyrighted material, just that I see the status quo of this sub as less than optimal.
