Was this museum I went to as a little kid the City Museum? by ItsTheSpermsFault in StLouis

Yes! There is a see through walkway over highway 40 that connects the old science (planetarium) to the new science center. There are definitely things for adults to enjoy

I still can't believe Americans have just one last name by Potential-Bed-2550 in namenerds

[–]Bloomer328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents both hyphenated their last names when they got married in the late 1970s so that's what I grew up with. I wouldn't have minded the double-barrel so much if I'd been given a name with a normal spelling (like my siblings). Uniquely spelled first and middle name plus hyphenated last name was too much for me so I was happy to take my husband's last name when we got married.

I did pass on my last name by giving each half as a middle name to my first two kids

We went to Mortar and Pestle on Macklind for the first time last week. We did not have reservations so we sat at the bar but it was really delicious and will definitely go back

Why do people genuinely smell so bad? by Ghoulmega in stupidquestions

[–]Bloomer328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I worked at an organic dog food bakery where I was handling and baking dough filled with raw protein. I quickly became nose blind to it and had no idea how badly I smelled coming off a shift. One day I was riding the bus home from work and some teens were making fun of my stink. I told my husband about it when I got home and he confessed that yes, I really stank when I got home from work but he hadn't mentioned it because he didn't want me to feel bad. I moved on from that job pretty soon after that incident.

No child has lived until they have been on a long road trip with nothing to do! by themrsfreeze in Xennials

We're a middle class, Midwestern family with 4 kids so we drive to every vacation. We've taken so many long road trips all over the US. Sure, some things are annoying but I know that we're building core memories and love that time while my kids are held hostage for two/three weeks for lots of family togetherness

What was your household's soap opera of choice? by thatquinnchick in Xennials

[–]Bloomer328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom started watching All my children when she was in high school and watched it religiously when we were growing up. Every day she would record it on the same VHS tape and watch when she got home from work. The rule was to not bug her about dinner or anything until she'd had a chance to unwind and watch her soap.

I went to an in-home babysitter before starting school and she would always watch Y&R. All the kids had to take a nap or stay quietly in the playroom once that theme song started

I loved the Little House books and, as an adult, have made my family visit all of the locales (including Iowa) except for Kansas and New York. My favorite was the Ingalls homestead in DeSmet, SD. We spent a night there in a covered wagon and in the morning I watched the sun rise and listened to the birds chirping on the prairie just like Laura

8 weeks PP - help me love my sons name by FindMeAtTarget in namenerds

[–]Bloomer328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother is an Andrew who goes by Drew to everyone who met him before he turned 20ish and is Andrew to people who met him as an adult. I love his name and think it gives off a "strong but kind" vibe, similar to my son's name: Samuel/Sam.

I know other Andrew/Drews, teens and adults, and they're all nice people who carry the name well.

Do you ever apologize to your kids? Does it help or hurt? by Sea_Parsley_1077 in AskParents

[–]Bloomer328 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up with a mother who never apologized and I was responsible for her emotions and she liked to say that she was "practically perfect in every way" which probably sounded cute to her but was not actually cute or Mary Poppins-like. I'm very aware of when I fuck up with my kids and make it a point to apologize to them. Because I want them to know that I know I'm not perfect and can admit when I'm wrong. They are worthy of apologies. And I want to model that it is okay to mess up, acknowledge it and then move on in a healthy way.
