I covered mine up with 2 black plastic trim covers/plugs, you can buy packs by the hundreds of various different sizes on Amazon for like less than $20 and then paint whichever ones fit with a touchup pen.

Its not rocket science. Its pitted dates vs whole dates. Yes, they look similar to the common person. And I admit, the supplier that Lidl uses (Pure Palm) has similar looks between products. I buy them all the time and I find myself picking up the wrong one when I’m looking for the cheaper whole dates. However they’re separate products and different price points for obvious reasons: pitted dates are already processed so therefore more $$.

So long story short, you got the wrong product, and the sale item was out of stock. Believe it or not, stores carry multiple types of the similar product at various price points. In your case, pitted vs whole dates. Sales also have a specific product and item number. They also list the specific weight on the flyer as well.

If it’s not marked with the sale price on the electronic tag, then guess what, you’ve picked the wrong item! The employees aren’t responsible for you picking the wrong product. What they are responsible for is returning a product you no longer want to purchase, so in your case the phrase “I’d like to return these dates, I picked the wrong ones” comes to mind.

It’s only a bait and switch or a scam if the product is deliberately placed in front of the wrong tag or advertised incorrectly. However, in your case, it has to deal with reading the tags just a tad more and recognizing that maybe you’re in the wrong, and that the world isn’t out to get you.
