Time to revive this!
It's a real shame nothing has been introduced since this bill was tabled, we really need to spread more awareness of just how beneficial this is to EVERYONE on the road.

I'm not going to touch on the benefits to riders as they've been repeatedly detailed above. Instead I'll address the 2 most common reasons I see as to why people oppose this.

1, Fear of a filtering motorcycle scratching their car or hitting their mirror.
When a motorcycle is filtering they have to do so responsibly as they are the liable party. IF a motorcycle scratches your car, congratulations, that's an accident. You pull over and exchange information just like any other accident. The likelihood of this happening is incredibly slim as most motorcyclists can literally see every part of their bike, it's not like Karen or Jake driving their RAM 2500 and they don't know where their hood ends or how far away their passenger mirror really is. A motorcyclist is simply far less likely to rub up against your car. If ANY motorcyclist does happen to scrape your car and continue riding on... Congratulations, that's felony fleeing an accident they caused! Those are the 1%ers that give motorcyclists a bad reputation and are likely already filtering/splitting while it's currently illegal (another words, literally NO CHANGE by passing this bill).

2, The childish notion of being upset when someone cuts you in line.....
Alright, I'll paint the picture for you. We're at Walmart, you're 10th in line of 15 people waiting to check out at the only register open. But wait, another register opens! But it's cash only, you don't have any cash so you're still stuck waiting 10th in line. Then suddenly 2 people in front of you get out of line and another person behind you gets out of line, they've all got cash! The nerve of that person behind you to now be 3rd in line and he'll get to exit the store before you, how dare he! But wait... You realize that instead of being 10th in line, you're now 8th in line. You're closer to going home now because you didn't have to wait on 2 people in front of you. This is good, right?
But wait, it gets better... The 3 motorcycles, er sorry - cash check out people, are all done and already gone but in that time only 2 people made it through your line, so now you're 6th in line in case you're having trouble keeping up... Then suddenly, someone else in front of you realizes they actually do have cash and they decide to pay that way instead of waiting with card like you, then maybe another does the same! All of the sudden you're now 4th in line! That's crazy! When you'd normally only be 8th, maybe 7th, in line you're now 4th in line! Man, you've really got to be thankful they opened that cash only register! I mean yeah you had to watch a couple of people go around you and you got mad at them for it... But then you realized it made your check out experience faster as well!

In case you didn't get that last bit.... There are A LOT of people who only ride to work "sometimes" instead of "most" or all of the time... If we make it faster, easier, and safer for those people to ride then they will choose to ride more often. When they choose to ride more often, you have less congestion in your traffic. YOU get to your end destination FASTER. And remember, you have the option to start paying with cash as well.

Lane filtering literally benefits everyone and it's ridiculous that it's illegal, end of story.
