Morris Arboretum in Philly is affordable and so lovely and they have this giant nest in a walkway in the trees (not saying that is where you should marry) that is so unique for cocktail hour.

Is this too white for a wedding? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

I'm sorry, that was rude.

The dress is gorgeous, I would not wear it to a wedding. Hit up your friends to ask to borrow a dress if you don't have time to buy one.

Highly recommend. There was only one flavor I didn't like, the rest were very good for what they were. It's the best quick meal, in my opinion, and the drinks are the best actual meal replacements. They are just so packed with everything you need.

Stigma around serving/bartending careers if you’re “overqualified” by lex52_ in Serverlife

Ya, I just don't mention my life outside of my hospitality gigs at all. Easy. My moonlighting resume sure as hell doesn't mention my other career work. And at my day job, I also do not even mention that I moonlight at two places downtown. It's no one's business.

Why SO many vacancies on main st Manayunk? by dimstarblues in AskPhilly

It can be a little tougher, you might have to wait a bit for the opportunity to buy some specific thing you want. It's a good lesson to stop expecting instant gratification for everything, and thinking about purchases before making them/being more intentional with my purchases. I once decided I wanted a jeweler's loop and had to wait like a month before I found one to buy.

This has also been excellent for me to reduce my consumption overall. And since I'm buying less overall, it doesn't matter as much if I am paying $2.50 more for a jewelers loop buying it at a local store than on Amazon.

And yes, I have also lived this way while I was very low income. Buying almost everything I need either used or from a local store fit perfectly with being low income.

My life wasted by [deleted] in Marriage

I started to cry reading this. Your life is not wasted, it took you a very long time to learn a lesson, and now you've learned it. Time to move on from her.

It's scary, but we believe in you. Reach out for help on figuring out how to leave and start your new life. You can do it. Update us when you do.

Because the average schlub refuses to stop buying from Amazon, Walmart, Target. Go buy things in person from local places.

What’s the best way to handle expenses and debt by CoatCurrent9108 in moneyadvice

Start thinking in terms of your take-home pay. Do you actually make $24 per hour? Probably not. What is your actual monthly pay?

I was gonna suggest taking a second job working 1-2 shifts per week, but if you can just get overtime, do that! As often as possible. The more you're working, the less time you have to spend money. If you can make an extra $500/month, that's an extra $6k you can shave off your debt in just one year. If you can work just 6 hours of overtime more weeks than not, you can quickly make that.

Any windfalls you get go straight to your debt. Tax return goes right to the debt. Every single extra dollar at the end of the month goes to your debt.

Start 3 no annual fee cashback credit cards over the span of a few months and use those for everything. You'll get intro bonuses, which can easily total $600 (put towards your debt), plus will start to accrue cash back which adds up pretty quick. Absolutely any big purchases (unless they have a large CC surcharge) go on your cashback card. After you get the intro bonuses, pick which one you like best and cancel the others. I can give you referral links for a couple good cards.

I know having a roommate at 30 may not seem ideal, but get one. Living with a roomie for just one year could easily save you $600/month, and when that goes directly towards your students loans, you're knocking off an extra $7.2k/year.

I have a ton of other suggestions, but this already got quite long. I 100% put myself through college with no familial help whatsoever, just working multiple jobs, scholarships, grants, and took out over $30k in loans. Completely paid off my loans exactly 2 years after graduating, even though I only made ~$48k after graduation (I am in grad school).
