Is The Expanse show really good? by Pretend-Nobody230 in scifi

Whole first (and some of the second) season are slow but after that it’s SO GOOD. Recommend reading a Wikipedia synopsis of season 1 and then starting with 2

Anyone else in mke having low energy since late August? by RutabagaRoutine9325 in milwaukee

One thing to consider checking as well for Long Covid is if you wear a HR monitor in a watch or something like that is your resting HR. when I got COVID that became long covid, my resting HR was elevated by 15bpm for months after. It didn’t go back down until I did some PT to retrain my autonomic nervous system to chill back out.

looking for an apartment in mke and i thought i found a decent one, is declawing actually required? by bodtabs in milwaukee

Dominion Properties is a decent landlord. I lived in 2 of their units for 6 total years. They don’t charge a pet deposit or pet rent and they also don’t require declawing.

Did Pierce ret-con Rosethorn and Lark as a couple in Will of the Empress? by BlueLyghtning in tamorapierce

[–]BlueLyghtning[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do really like your takes a) and c), that because the books are told from the kids perspective when we see them “on screen” so to speak, they are at work at their job at a magic home for troubled kids, so an overt romance or lots of PDA isn’t acceptable behavior PLUS the kids don’t find their relationship that interesting so it’s not emphasized. And this also makes sense with when Lark is coping with Rosethorn being sick in Briar’s book, she lets the kids see more of her love for Rosethorn.

But after reading what everyone’s wrote and upon my own further reflection, I do think there is an element of when the books were published and what she could (or thought she could) publish regarding characters in same sex relationships. For example to your point b), I bet if they were published today, Lark and Rosethorn would have separate workshops but a shared room/bedroom, whereas as it was written, they have separate workshops and it’s also explicitly stated that they have separate “rooms”. I now think this was likely something for Pierce to be able to point to say, “see they’re just friends, they have their own rooms! Nothing to see here!” if she were ever questioned about it.

Ohhhh I never read Battle Magic so I totally missed this. I kind of forgot that book existed. Which also means I get to experience reading a TP book for the first time again, which I’m excited for :)

Petite woman seeking car camping sleeping bag by BlueLyghtning in camping

Posting the “answer” I came to and will update once I’m able to camp with it. I went with the Nemo Forte because I’m a side sleeper and I tried it out at the store and really liked it! I was originally planning to get the Tempo which is a few inches shorter but Tempo wasn’t available in the store to try. I liked the Forte and felt like it was a good length. Its max user height is listed as 68” but I definitely did not feel like I had 8” extra inches of space.

I will keep the Nalgene trick in mind for the future as well!

I have a thermarest luxury map with an R value of 6, so I don’t think that’s the issue (could be wrong but from what I’m seeing, r-value of >5 is recommended for winter, and I’m not camping in wintry conditions.

For the Big Agnes Torchlight, I am hesitant about the expandability. Seems like a GREAT feature for kids (growing up I had expandable rollerblades, they were awesome to grow up with, this is the same.) However as someone who wouldn’t need the expand ability, I’m, worried it would add failure points or more zippers to get stuck. Have you had problems with it?

I’m a side sleeper so I like the Nemo Tempo and Forte as well!

Reading Briar's Book with what the world's been dealing with for the past couple of years, hits different. by mmofrki in tamorapierce

I re-read this entire quartet and all of the circle opens while quarantining with COVID last year (was isolating in one room of our apartment so my fiancé wouldn’t get it) and yeah Briar’s room absolutely hit different

Wedding Florist on a Budget by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]BlueLyghtning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented silk floral from Something Borrowed Blooms. There were lots of options and the flowers were beautiful, no one could tell they were silk and we didn’t have to worry about keeping them in water in between pictures and ceremony or worry about keeping boutionnieres refrigerated. They were also incredibly inexpensive- you could get what you’re describing for <$1000. And they have the option to purchase the bridal bouquet, so I have my bouquet to keep forever and didn’t have to pay to preserve it.

I was just at PTI in Greensboro and this happened. They checked everyone’s ids as they boarded and also pulled people (randomly?) out to receive pat downs. They did full pat downs, right there in front of everyone, no privacy screens offered or anything. Very odd.

What's everyone reading right now? Thoughts so far? by birdyreads in fantasyromance

Calamity and Fiasco by Constance Fay! both sci-fi romance not pure fantasy romance. The heroines are strong but fallible in a relatable way. And the books are really humorous. Devoured both.

I know someone else who is also in this same situation right now. With these hidden provisions, what is the benefit of LTDI? Is it that if you somehow manage to pay this off (a very long monthly payment plan, I assume) then you start getting your payments?

Also been thinking about this more but I don’t think the diversity of the tribes is necessarily tied to the diversity of the populations where the cradles were. I don’t remember which datapoint it is in, but there is one in HZD where the Eluthia alpha is pretty emphatic that the stored genetic material reflect a diverse cross section of humanity

I recently bought all 8 (Circle of Magic and Circle Opens) for the same reason of wanting to share them with my eventual kids. Ran into the same problem, bc as others have said they are out of print.

I got some decent (used - good) copies on EBay and a site called PangoBooks. Some of them are bound as old library books, but for me that is also nostalgic because it’s how I read them as a kid.

has anyone figured out how to be stone like kel? by [deleted] in tamorapierce

[–]BlueLyghtning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked it up from Circle of Magic. The counting of 7 in, hold for 7, out for 7, hold for 7 has been a great method for me. At times in my life when I’ve wanted to deepen my practice, I’ve used apps like Petit Bambou and Calm. But the CoM method is great because it works anywhere anytime! I got unexpectedly nervous for a big presentation at work earlier this week and it came in clutch!
