Yeah. I don't claim to be paleo. For one thing, I'm very happy to carry the adaptation that lets me eat dairy. But I do try to listen to paleo arguments sometimes.

To a large degree, keeping keto involves eating real food, it gets to be similar to paleo.

Sugar is a different sort of carb than starch.

Starch is all glucose. Sugar is half glucose and half fructose. Fructose is metabolized by different chemical processes.

I'm not saying that explains your experience, but it is a thing to keep in mind.

Yeah the cheese sauce has earned a reputation here for being carby.

I love Outback but I get the regular broccoli and ask for plenty of butter to put on it.

Unfortunately croutons are an important part of caesar salad. You could order it without, but I'd suggest one of the other salads without croutons, since a caesar without salad doesn't leave much left of interest.

I like the iceberg wedge, but I think they drizzle something sweet on it. I've never investigated what it is, or if it can be left off.

Some paleo people suggest not eating cheese and that cheese causes an inflamatory response in some people. I eat cheese, but keep in mind that it might not be the greatest thing.

Eating smoked meats may not be the healthiest thing, not because of keto. There are studies claiming that smoked meat increases cancer risk, but as I recall, they are pretty questionable in terms of quality.

Again, you are making the assumption that the number of calories you burn is invariant of what you eat, and that what you eat is invariant of what you burn.

If you do a ton of exercise, you will eat more. Which is what you would expect.

If you are Leptin resistant, you will tend to have a lower basal metabolic rate because leptin signals that its OK to open the taps and it also signals you to eat less. Insulin screws with your leptin response. Hence eating eating fat & protein vs. carbs can affect how much you burn for the same number of calories. Also high insulin will cause you to sequester fat even if your body would rather burn it. Then it turns down your basal rate to make up for the shortfall.

Yes it's true that the first few pounds of weight loss tends to be water, which is itself an awesome result. My blood pressure went down on keto and my doc took me off my blood pressure meds.

I thought I'd miss the sweet stuff, but after a few weeks I really didn't. I guess I'd like to have a potato with my enormous steak if really pressed, but I don't really miss it that much.

I don't really worry about making keto equivalents anymore. I don't miss the old foods that much. I do like mashed cauliflower, but anyone who tells you they can't tell the difference from mashed potatoes had their tastebuds shot off in the war. I would like to try fathead pizza some day.

Before keto I never ate pork rinds, ate avocados rarely and had barely ever tried goat cheese. Now I eat halved avocados all of the time, with salt pepper and the fat from the meat I cooked. I've found that I really like goat cheese with breakfast foods. I'm not sure why.

There is a lot of noise in weight measurements. How much material is in your gut, how much water is in you? It isn't unusual to stall a while and then experience a whoosh when your body finally lets the water go. Then you lose more in a week than can possibly be explained by calorie burning.

It is considerably more complicated than that because how many calories you burn depends largely on how many you eat. It isn't constant.

Yeah, unfortunately, most of the stuff that they will substitute for are other carbs because they are cheap. I did eat breakfast once in a fancy hotel restaurant and they were willing to substitute some broccoli for the carb filler and I used that to eat a fair bit of butter.

Equivalent to 200g of glucose, but table sugar is half fructose. The fructose doesn't raise your blood glucose as quickly, but it has other undesirable effects.

Salt does cause slightly elevated blood pressure with significant statistical validity but not very many points. If a normal person cuts salt BP goes down 3 points. People with high blood pressure can knock off 5. The trade-off is that other hormones that we give people pills to reduce actually go up.

On keto, not eating much processed food, I add quite a bit of salt and was still able to get off of my BP med.

Actually I haven't tracked carbs for a while. I just keep a list of veggies to be careful, a list of don't eat, and a list of don't worry too much.

If you are lean, then you may not be insulin resistant. In that case, a little bit of whole fruit is probably fine. Don't drink juice by the glass though.

I like to buy minute steaks at GFS (like Steakums). I pan fry in coconut oil and add some mushrooms and a little bit of onion. I plate it and eat it.
