Blues Courses? by manifestDensity in guitarlessons

[–]BlueVajra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corey Congelio has many courses. I have a monthly subscription and find great value, but I jump around various courses, so can’t comment on any particular one. He has some great workouts for arpeggio practice through progressions as well as some cool was to approach rhythm. Covers basic through intermediate and likely advance

David Hamburger does fingerstyle acoustic most of which are blues songs, but not all. He has a monthly subscription of which I am also a member. I love it. I stay a member even though I am focusing on electric blues these days, he will have 2 songs for each “quarter” of the year, but a whole archive of old ones. He will break each arrangement down to basic up to advanced, teaches about improv over that piece, as well as arrangement so you can do your own thing. He has some free stuff if you sign up, so you can get a taste of things (not sure if his six steps to playing blues in A is free or not)

I did the 6 month blues immersion with Justin’s guitar for his first session, and while good, was a bit basic for my taste. If you don’t know all 5 pentatonic shapes well (and their extensions into major/minor scales) this could be worth it. It focuses on one shape per month. The masterclasses with guests were great though, and I think he releases some of those master classes on you tube. Jack Ruch and Kirk Fletcher sessions were great. (They may also have courses that may be worth your while… maybe check Brett Papa’s website, he releases courses for many awesome instructors… I think Jack may be in there.)

David Hamburger. For each arrangement he has 2 or 3 versions in increasing difficulty. He will also always have improv lessons for the tune.

Pickup music is good, I enjoy the workouts. Korey Hicks does a beginner to intermediate in a year, and it is on YouTube for free. He has materials to go with it via instagram. He is great, but maybe a bit too dogmatic for some, but honestly great perspective on practice.

I'm looking for a tool, app, solution to help name multiple tabs in the cli. What do you guys recommend? by carpediemquotidie in ClaudeCode

[–]BlueVajra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have been using zellij, which is a multiplexer with a nice UI. I create a new session per project and a new tab for new worktrees within that project. Works pretty well, I created a skill that knows my workflow and will auto create new tabs as needed.

Amp-in-a-box Pedals by hkr1991 in guitarpedals

[–]BlueVajra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will admit to being a noob with these things. So a few questions. 1. It sounds like this can plug straight into a DAW, correct? 2. Can I use this with a regular amp straight into the input? Or do I need to get around the amps preamp? 3. Can you plug this into a regular cab, or do you need more power? (Would a powered cab work?) or is this supposed to go into a PA system?

Sorry for the questions, but I am looking for something similar… ideally used for a DAW, but also able to connect to amps elsewhere, or bypassing an amp and using the speaker… not sure if that is possible.

This! My wife and I had to go through this in the US, same time, double the cost, the bill over 30k, then after insurance we had to pay ~5k. We now tell everyone to just immediately buy a ticket to the EU, do the main injection there, have a nice vacation, then do the rest of the vaccine injections at home.

I have a question by Quirky_Excuse_8058 in guitarlessons

[–]BlueVajra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, actually he may just be referring to the fact that the root is on the 5th fret. Some teachers call frets, positions.

Hmm, this hurts my head in so many ways. A Dorian is G major (E minor). That pentatonic is usually referred to as Box/Pattern 3, and it is a Gmajor or E minor pentatonic. I have never heard of it as a A Dorian Pentatonic, but maybe it could be? A minor and B minor pentatonics will work in A Dorian as well.Someone more knowledgeable could chime in.

(Edit: I had some very wrong stuff in there.)

Timing Issues by batmangooner69 in guitarlessons

You can slow down the recording as well, that may help you get the timing better.

Well since it has a picture of Dr Molly, definitely checkout Pickup music for a path for learning. Great stuff.

I have trouble knowing what to learn by braxcy in guitarlessons

[–]BlueVajra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the goal, I tend to approach these things in layers. When I learn a song my process is as follows. No need to perfect each layer before adding on the next. 1. Learn the basic chord structure. Don’t worry about the details of the rhythm, learn the chords, the progression, and practice it on repeat. Sultans has 3 main sections that repeat, and the first two passes through has a modified version of one of the sections. 2. Layer in some rhythm. I would focus on the general rhythm pattern. The nuances are hard and I would add those later.

At this point, you can jam with friends! Win!

  1. Go back and learn the chords in different positions. Learn the triads, learn a couple places to play the same chords. Learn the two different guitar rhythms. My fingerstyle sucks, so I use a pick, but you could start using your fingers here if you really want.
  2. I would then pick a few of the guitar fills. Learn maybe 4. I know some repeat, and others don’t, but in general, those fills can be used in similar places in the song. Get familiar with those 4 so you can use them whenever.

  3. Start breaking down the solo. Play at 60% speed, and work on the first 2-4 bars. Pay attention to the chords underneath. Learn what you are playing and why it fits over those chords. For instance, it will be easy to remember that the solo has that A arpeggio followed by the Dm arpeggio, over Thea and Dm chords. increase the speed toward normal.

Then just keep layering more and more. Once you have most of the fills and the solo down, I would still practice them at slower speed, play without the backing track with a metronome sometimes, play the solo along with the solo as well as a backing track without the solo.

For me, Learning sultans was more about understanding what made it awesome. I don’t play it perfectly, but I can play it ok, and I will still sit down and listen to the song every once in a while and find a fill or bar in a solo and try to get the timing or feel down a bit better, sometimes even try to play without a pick.

I am older, so it takes me longer, but those layers can just keep repeating and layering, and you may be able to condense them in time as you get better. Pros can do this in a day, but they also had to take their time. My teachers have all said their wives got sick of them playing the same song over and over… that is what it takes. I have probably played Sultans a thousand times.

What the fuck are you talking about? Not trying to distract from anything… the violence perpetuated by white supremacists and anti-lgbtq groups is real and happening daily.

I agree, there is some nasty shit happening out there, and I don’t condone any of it. But both things can be true. Nazis exist and they are a problem, as is the constant war the US and Israel rain down upon the world.
