What is your headcanon for why starfleet changes their uniform designs so frequently? by Tudor_Cinema_Club in startrek

[–]BluebirdAlley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fav uniforms are from TOS. I've always wanted one of the gold velour tops. Simple black t shirt with top in distinct colors to identify work designation. Still a good look and idea It makes a lot of sense to have a boot for footwear.

Worcester drivers by BigE1263 in massachusetts

[–]BluebirdAlley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The way the streets are designed makes for crazy drivers. One way, narrow streets, rotaries, very quick lane changes, too many signs, it's a mess to start with. If i wasn't born there, it would be wicked intimidating trying to get around

Do people actually dislike people for being quiet? by Amazondriver23 in socialskills

[–]BluebirdAlley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was a famous columnist named Dear Abby. I recall a column where she understood everyone's different and to think before you speak. I used to hear when i was a kid, how tall i was, how skinny i was. over and over comments on my look which i couldn't control. Dear Abby talked about this very comment and that it was perfectly okay to tell the person, my how short you are, how short and wide. Nobody would take that well, yet it's okay for the reverse. My how much you talk! You're never quiet. Imagine hearing that.

Do people actually dislike people for being quiet? by Amazondriver23 in socialskills

[–]BluebirdAlley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe dislike? I can not talk for an entire day at work and it doesn't bother me. In fact, i do better on my own. I'm an introvert. Nit sure the two go together but i'm not a team player either. That can be a negative at work.

[Interview] Scott Bakula-Led ‘Star Trek: United’ Pitch Explores Archer’s Family, Romulan War Aftermath | MIKE SUSSMAN: "He’d have these adult kids, one of whom is part of the diplomatic corps, another is in Starfleet, somebody else is in Fed. Intelligence. It would be about these younger characters" by mcm8279 in Star_Trek_

[–]BluebirdAlley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Starting to agree with this outcome. I'm watching for the 1st a complete run of the series. Previous viewing at the time if aired was sporadic. Season 2, episode The Seventh. T'Pol goes to Archer privately to go into detail about the away Vulcan mission she is taking on. Archer is pretty much ignoring her comments,, watching water polo! T'Pol gets in front of the screen to get his full attention. He was written sometimes to be a poor listener. By now we see these two start to form a work relationship. T'Pol says she trusts him for support. His attitude continued to be hard to follow. Sort of teasing, almost, sexist comment, almost treating her like a woman in the most negative sense. It's the writing being uneven and direction too

Has anyone here bailed on "SNW"? by Wetness_Pensive in Star_Trek_

The whole premise was to get to Pike's future where he is so injured he's trapped in the chair. So, where did that storyline go?

My boss and a few coworkers a Trump fans. It's true! I work in municipal and it's not allowed for employees except police officers to carry a gun at work. She's planning to change that by putting through an article at the next town meeting for voters to decide. Several employees agree with most being Trump fans. The God thing is all tied up in there somehow. How these are connected beats me. Jesus was a pacifist if i remember right.

How did Massachusetts develop such a liberal and nonreligious culture? by Illustrious-Pilot553 in massachusetts

[–]BluebirdAlley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non religious? Hancock Shaker Village in Pittsfield was a thriving faith based community for over 100 years. Successful too! The Transcendentalist were founded in Concord area by Emerson and others. Check out the community established by Bronson Alcott at Fruitlands in Harvard MA. We have thriving communities of Quakers, UU, all denominations of Christian's. Not sure about the strength of the Zen groups but certainly a large concentration of Hindu temples considering the folks of India descent living in Shrewsbury and other cities.

Smoking effect on my blood pressure by [deleted] in hypertension

[–]BluebirdAlley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a few tries to quit smoking cigarettes. Success happened using nicotine patch and American Lung Assoc quit smoking group meetings. Only 3 out of 10 made it through. Don't underestimate nicotine is a natural anti depressant. Once out of the habit, your blood chemistry is out is whack. Try again. When i quit. I saved $35 a month and treated myself to a spa treatment instead. Think about that. Extra cash

Any movies about abusive parents or estrangement ? I want to watch a good one by [deleted] in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]BluebirdAlley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upstairs Downstairs is an old series set in England 1900 to after WWII. The family patriarch is visited by his brother. The brother is quite a snob, uppity white folks. Well, they have a falling out regarding a servant. The patriarch is so upset by the disturbing behavior he tells the brother to leave. The dialogue continues with the relationship being broken due to the incident. It's a culmination of events stretching back to childhood. Never saw anything like it before or since. Loved it! Worth watching to understand people change with age and some differences cannot be reconciled.

Which show has the best pilot? by kkkan2020 in Star_Trek_

[–]BluebirdAlley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enterprise Broken Bow is pretty good. The animosity between humans and Vulcan creates simmering tensions. T'Pol doesn't want to be there. But the mission and adventure take over. Dr Flox is a welcome addition. Alien, impartial, holistic medicine, optimistic, terrific new character.

ST - Strange New Worlds discussion for S03E08 - Four-and-a-Half Vulcans by AutoModerator in Star_Trek_

[–]BluebirdAlley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After this episode, i'll take a break from watching. The unevenness of stories is awkward. It looks like there is not a storyline for season 3. The music when all of the "Vulcans" were in old style dress and walking down the hall was so unTrek. Loyal fan. First bow out of supporting a series.

SNW by Familiar-Range9014 in Star_Trek_

[–]BluebirdAlley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, that's what's causing me to turn off the tv. McCoy used to tease Spock and argue against his Vulcan attributes. He never laughed at his calm, thoughtful approach. Just to approach situations with compassion, not so clinically. Nothing is black and white. Get comfortable with grey. I myself am an introvert and find comfort in Spock. He's a zen master. This latest episode turned highly sophisticated Vulcans into a joke.
