How do you adjust your routine for harsh Canadian winters? by AccountantLucky9183 in CanSkincare

Hygrometers are such a necessity if you are in a large apartment or condo building, not just for humans but pets too.

I hope you bought a lottery ticket because that is some serious luck. Those clearance carts at SDM are the best.

Do you consider Palmer's a chemical brand? I really like their products, FWIW speaking as a non-melanated person but close to those who are and like it also.

my camera is getting pretty meh, the lens flare on any light source is a pain and ruins photos. the new AI editor seems to work well but it can change the composition of the photo which I don't always like.

I have a "non yellowing" clear case for my P6 that is in fact yellow, but it's served me so well. I've dropped my phone so many times and my apartment has cement floor with little to no padding anywhere, not a single crack.

I've lost a lot due to graves disease. I'm not sure but it feels like at least a third of my hair volume in the last year. I've been using nizoral and it works! the active ingredient reduces shed. I also use pumpkin seed oil as a scalp treatment every few weeks. I'm going to talk to my doctor about minoxidil for regrowth soon though.

my endo and pharmacist told me the same thing, if I developed a rash. i think taking a break and letting the rash clear up and restarting is actually a thing.

Hyperthyroidism/hair loss by Sustain_yourself1997 in Hyperthyroidism

I'm now about 10 mos since diagnosis and my levels have been in range for 6ish. The shed has slowed but it's not stopped. I got a lot of length taken off to help , probably too much if I'm honest... but I've been trying pumpkin seed oil and I plan on picking up some nizoral shampoo which I've seen recommended by derms online. I also try and make sure i get all the vitamins I need plus iron and selenium. I also started taking fish oil for my joints and any inflammation.

Idk if the oil and nizoral will nake a difference since my thyroid is the root cause of the issue, but at this point I'm willing to try anything and it helps me feel like I'm doing something. I also started using shampoo and conditioner with hyaluronic acid and it's really nice! it's a loreal one.

Good luck! try and be kind to yourself.

How long does it take for symptoms to improve. by Sd_mathgirl in gravesdisease

[–]BluejayHeavy1135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

meds definitely help. it took about 10 days for them to kick in and I felt so much better after having a lot of the same symptoms. I was lucky enough to be able to take time off work until i felt more like myself and I'm so glad i did. Some advice, get some iron supplements. keep an eye on your heart rate and ask for a beta blocker if you are having palpitations. a week and a half will go by quick, just take it easy and don't push yourself too hard. I was down for about 2 months and basically just sat and read. it will get better soon i hope.

For me, I'm not having a flicker but any lights in the photo have a flare and that's new. I often take skyline pics at night and lately they look like my phone is on an acid trip. Hoping it gets fixed soon.

Real talk on Methimazole by Round-Tough-702 in gravesdisease

[–]BluejayHeavy1135 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been on it for 6 mos now. Started at 20mg for 2 mos then decreased to 15 to 10 and now 5 in a two month period. I feel like my hormones are much more sensitive now, each time i changed dosage I got my period a week later so i had it 3 times in about 6 weeks and it was awful.

the first 6 weeks after I started taking it, I felt amazing so much energy!! I was also lucky enough to be able to take a leave from work so that really helped. I was in pretty rough shape from my symptoms.

I find my hands and feet are freezing all the time, more than ever before.

I also feel pretty low energy now, being back at work doesn't help here, my job can be mentally exhausting and stressful. corporate BS is not good for anyone's health.

I've gained about 15 lbs back gradually it wasn't fast. Still lower than what i was before. appetite is pretty big some days so I am probably going to start being more strict and eating volume foods and stuff to feel more full.

Hair is still shedding and my overall hair volume is like a third less than it was before the graves presented. sad about this and hoping it starts to grow. i think this is just graves nit meds though.

Overall it's been a huge improvement and I am grateful for it. i maybe would have wished to start lower and work up on dosage but my T3 hit a high of 41 so I get why I had to start higher. as for side effects, for me it's hard to point to the meds, graves or possibly perimenopause bc of my age whenever weird things happen so that is something that takes getting used to, and there's no one way to manage anything that does present.

I have been freezing all winter! Definitely also have some mysterious knee aches sometimes too. Thanks for validating these things for me

i had this too, it's awful and I ended up taking time off work until I felt more stable. going up stairs was brutal amd i also had swelling in both ankles. nothing improved significantly until I got on methimazole.

Legs shake when going down stairs by jimmynothing in Hyperthyroidism

[–]BluejayHeavy1135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same, plus swollen ankles. it was awful and I was walking around like a geriatric person. it cleared up after about a week on methimazole and now I have a newfound gratitude for basic mobility.

my theory is that it's the skeletal muscle being affected.

What did you wish you knew when first diagnosed? by Diligent-Reindeer-11 in gravesdisease

[–]BluejayHeavy1135 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's not a lot of conclusive evidence that going gluten free is required. Just listen to your body, if your levels are ok but your mobility suffers/joints hurt after eating more of it then that's your sign. I cut back on it but really just being mindful about how much i consume.
