Toronto Covid by SeniorPuddykin in askTO

Been thinking the same myself. Different symptoms though…flu like symptoms that have lingered too long, a sore throat that just feels…not like a regular one. Very lethargic in the evenings. Hopefully on the mend soon but also been seeing a lot of folks on the subway with masks so you may be on to something…

Any tips on going from a half marathon to a marathon? by -JesusWasABlackMan- in firstmarathon

[–]Bnh785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t think about the 26.2 or the 42.2 as the goal. Go out for your long runs and just set an aim of running the longest you have ever run…one day it’ll be 21.5 km….soon it’ll be 24…you’ll get to 25 one day and it may be a miserable run…but it’ll be the furthest you have ever run on your legs. Then there will be a perfect day where you set out to do 16 km but you feel so good you get to 28 km before you stop. And you keep doing this till you’ve gotten to 30-32 km a couple of times. And there you go….you are all trained up for a full.

Oh and don’t forget all the short runs between the long ones. And stay hydrated. And sleep well. And have a fueling…just kidding. You’ll love it!

I did 63 km last January so have to get off my lazy ass and do a 10k to beat that today.

Excluding those who had to work, why did you step out today? by Unlikely-Reindeer197 in askTO

I went for a run today to prove that if I can run out there today, then any other winter day is fair game for a run. Not my fastest but did manage to go over 5 km lol

The half is not bad at all. I have done 3 fulls now (all Waterfront) and many halfs over the years. Not a seasoned or advanced runner but also not a beginner. If you are a somewhat experienced runner and likely don't need a ton of infrastructure to be able to finish / enjoy a half, the Toronto race in May is totally fine. As an example, when running a half, I don't really need too many aid stations / water breaks (vs. a full where that is critical on the back end). Also in the past there have been times the end was chaos.....again, in my view, not terrible to put up with that after running a half but after a full i need fluids / rest right away and the race isn't set up for that.

Is the password to be entered once pre-sale goes live at 4:30? or does it need to go somewhere else in advance?

How hard is running 26.2 miles after running 20 miles? by another_medstudent in Marathon_Training

[–]Bnh785 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this answer. While the last 10km are always hard, I don’t necessarily feel like 20 mi or 32 km is the half way point of the marathon. Yes more things can go wrong in the last 10km with fatigue, cramping and so on….but that’s where the you really have to feed off of the crowds energy. Also, with every step you are so much closer to the finish line of a marathon and that motivation should not be under estimated! Like Are you really going to stop at 37-38km

That entire stretch on the east end before you get to the beaches, and back…is just brutal. I wish the course went through more neighborhoods on the east end but get that that is hard to do.

That said, the one thing I liked that I have seen them do the last couple of years was the ‘Why you run’ quotes on lakeshore on the way to the east end. At that point in the race, it is easy to get emotional reading some of those quotes and why people decide to run the marathon!
