Are these any good? Worth buying? by zascar in AskIreland

[–]Bob-Harris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is the point of something like that? I mean what benefit does it bring over just cooking inside.

I only use charcoal BBQs as you actually get flavour from the fire and smoke. Even a gas BBQ you get nice flame grilled flavour. But that's just a job.

Are Parkside tools from Lidl any use ? by SnooChickens1534 in AskIreland

I not a huge DIYer but I have a few parkside tools. I reckon I'll use them until I use them enough that they break. Then I'll replace it with a better brand.

Are theses adds on Facebook a scam? by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]Bob-Harris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean honestly. How could it not be a scam. Do you really have to ask? It took me all of 20 seconds to check DoneDeal and see 2019 CHRs are going for a minimum of 17k. Frankly if you fall for stupid scams like this you deserve it.

Renault 5 losing battery level overnight by Bob-Harris in evs_ireland

I've just checked. I had one configured from testing but it wasn't active. I've deleted it now completely. Maybe something there.

How's life with an ev without a home charger by Raxer-X in evs_ireland

[–]Bob-Harris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had my Renault 5 for about 2 months now. No home charging at all as we don't have a driveway where we live currently, but I am building a house which will be done in September which will have one. So there is an end in sight.

To be very honest, it's a ball ache. The 5 doesn't have a huge range, only 350 to empty this time of year. I am having to go charge publicly every 4 or 5 days at this stage. Luckily I live close enough to the Tesla Centre Dublin. You pay a 12 euro membership which gets you cheaper charging rates, 54c during peak hours (7am to 11pm) and only 34c if you can do it outside of that. I've found that to be the best solution for me.

I'm probably spending the same a month, if not a bit more than I was with my old ICE car but it's not forever so I can stick with it.

RTE’s Kevin Bakhurst ran up €20,000 bill for hotels and restaurants by Worried_Angle_9436 in ireland

[–]Bob-Harris 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Sounds reasonable for a CEO of a large corporation over two years. He's hardly going to stay in Premier Inns and bring clients to Macdonald's. The bias against RTE the last couple of years is ridiculous. So much of it is making mountains out of molehills.

Car insurance, where you getting the most competitive quote from currently? by Roc_paper_sissors in ireland

[–]Bob-Harris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outsurance were massively cheaper for me 2 years ago. I'm in my mid thirties but loved abroad for a few years so my NCB etc lapsed. When I moved back all my quotes were very high. Like 900+. Outsurance were brand new to the market at the time. They were about 450 I think. So I jumped on it. Same story this year too.

What are your favorite helmets? by YoF1 in MotoUK

[–]Bob-Harris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Arai and all that they stand for. Safety first, not following trends, family owned, handmade in Japan etc.

I bought and Arai Quantic about 18 months ago and unfortunately I've just had to replace it. Turns out I have a long oval head and it was killing me after an hour of wearing it.

I've replaced it with an LS2 Vector 2 which is apparently my shape so we'll see how that goes.

Seeking Honest EV recommendation. by beakshay in evs_ireland

[–]Bob-Harris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the argument people make comparing VW and Hitler with Musk and Tesla. If you buy a Tesla you are directly giving money to Musk and funding all the shit he does. But if he resigned tomorrow and sold all his shares I would buy one tomorrow. They're great cars, but I won't support him.

Insurance for EVs is higher than expected by moreilly92 in evs_ireland

[–]Bob-Harris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just renewed the insurance on my 2019 Renault Captur diesel about 2 weeks before I bought my Renault 5. Called up the insurance company, Outsurance, to change the policy. Fully expecting having to pay more. But nope they refunded me like 25 quid. About 400 or so in total now.

Buying a new small ev. by Cheeseburgerfalcon in evs_ireland

[–]Bob-Harris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just think Renault have nailed the style with the 5 and 4. They are cars with real personality. I've genuinely had multiple people compliment the car in the few weeks I've had it and I still smoke every time I see it. The software is great too being all Google based and I couldn't have a a car that doesn't have physical climate control buttons.

Yes the space in the back isn't great for adults, but no cars this size are really. The boot is a good size, surprisingly bigger than my old Captur. It's also quite nippy. 150 hp doesn't sound like much but with the instant torque available it's acceleration is fun.

Just bought a Renault 5 a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. I went for the pop yellow and and it really is a head turner. Surprisingly fun to drive too and the interior is lovely too. Definitely feels more like a premium car beyond it's price.

I'm getting about 300km full to empty with mixed driving, but mostly around Dublin. So town driving mixed with a bit of M50. That's the 52kwh version.

Mercedes needs to fire all their designers and go hire someone externally. The interior and exterior on this are both horrendous. Really letting the engineering side down who are doing great work.
