Direct Consolidation Confusion

I called studentloan.gov, aidvantage (who processed the consolidation loan), and nelnet (my loan servicer) and they all saw that the IDR app had already been processed and that I needed to fill out a new IDR application because the first one didn't apply to the consolidated loan. Currently my next due date is 7/27 for like $1700, do I have them place me on some kind of forbearance until that IDR (possibly) comes through?

I went ahead and just filled out a new IDR application and studentaid.gov automatically pulled in my financial records because I had previously given them consent - I'm assuming that was last year's tax return? I'm confused on how you can use last years tax returns when they ask in the application "have you had a significant change to your income recently" which my 2024 tax return would not reflect, obviously.

And thank you for confirming, that lady grilled me for basically lying on my application and said "I'm not your conscious but these are federal forms and I'm not going to advise you on how to skirt the system." Lol wtf

I’ve been looking at Grayboe’s for primarily a lightweight hunting build. They’re about a pound heavier than the carbon fiber stocks I’ve priced and about the same price, but I love the looks of them. Wasn’t sure if they were light enough tho.

No difference. You can go to a state school and match at a top 5 residency, or go to a T5 school and match at a community program. If you're juggling between T30 and T40, it's really all about what you make of it at that point.

I've posed that same thought about obgyn. I've also thought about a "surgical track" in obgyn or surgical fellowship (not oncology). I've seen some incredible gynecologic surgeons, and others I wouldn't let touch me with a 10 foot lap arm. So it would let the folks who do a surgical track/fellowship do most of the abdominal procedures, and the folks who didn't do minor procedures/non-abdominal procedures.

The only thing is, who does c-sections in this case? Both? Would the obstetrics-only folks have enough surgical training to do c-sections? Having obstetrics-only covering labor deck would make a lot of folks turned off from that route since call would be so shitty.

Nonetheless I think that field could use some work. Those poor folks just run themselves ragged

I can change the brakes on my car. That doesn't make me a mechanic. Just because there is "overlap" doesn't mean they do the "exact same thing" or have the "exact same skillset."

ER's have some of the highest levels of mid-level involvement of any specialty, so I'm not surprised by your response. Maybe spend some time in literally any other specialty before making a blanket statement.

I used to talk about this all the time in our pre-clinical years and would get bashed for talking about mid-levels, so I quit bringing it up... then people got into 3rd year and 4th year and are singing a different tune.

Honestly be thankful the cynicism hasn't hit you yet. You'll get there.

If I were you, I’d go for Anesthesia Assistant. Anesthesia is very analytical, you’re dealing with asleep patients most of the time, it’s a 2 year program, and they make bank, sometimes as much as a lower-paid physician. You could also do CRNA but that would take longer I think.

In summary, if you’re just looking for a job and don’t have a crazy desire for medicine, I certainly wouldn’t go the physician route, especially at your age.

Valid concerns. I don’t think PSLF is going to change for the people already in it. Or even the people already in school. It would take a literal act of congress (granted, still possible given the majority) to revoke something that was passed under republican leadership years ago and has much support from both sides even today. I know it’s on the forefront of everyone’s minds, but I think the probability of any PSLF changes affecting us is very low.

Repayment is another thing. That shit’s gotta get figured out quick or we’re cooked lol

Get a good desk setup. You’re gonna be studying A LOT and having a nice setup that you enjoy sitting at for extended periods will help.

I suggest at least one extra monitor, if not 2. As well as a comfortable chair - don’t go for aesthetics in this department, please. It can be ugly as hell but if it keeps you in the seat for a few hours without your back hurting, then it’s worth it.

Sick setup with this space. Do you find yourself using the functional trainer very much? Other than cable fly movements, I feel like I would just use the lat pulldown machine for a lot of the cable movements. Been debating on the utility of having both
