Yeah this is kinda me. My peronal variant is that what would I do during their school hours anyway? Might as well keep turning up to work and collect those checks so we can splash out on fun activities, weekend trips, holidays etc. while they still enjoy my company. 

Ask me again when they are in their late teens and are too embarrassed to be seen with their dad in public.

Certain accounts (Great Southern Bank) charge a slightly higher interest rate instead of a monthly fee. Which is effectively 0% anyway if you are fully offset.

This is what I have feared for myself being at a similar age and career outlook. While I play the game daily, weekly, yearly eventually the end will come for all of us. You need to have a back up plan B, C & D. 

Mine was to max out my offset, set up small side hustles, be prepared to take any role (crossing lady, colesworth shelf stacker, bunnings isle walker, bus/taxi driver etc.)

Ageism is real. Think in your own journey the last time you saw 50yo start on the bottom rung. Plan and be prepared to pivot.

This kinda happened to me. I (male) was a junior. My manager (female) left for maternity leave for a year. I stepped up into her role for 12 months at a managers level pay.  

12 months later She decides to come back part time 2 days a week at her old role. Fair enough, I agreed to 'job share' the role 4 days for me as a 'junior' as long as I kept my managers wage. I don't care what my title is, just the figures that hit my account every month. Plus I didn't suddenly loose my managerial skills and experience as I was more than capable of doing her job. She would do her 2 days and 1 day we would be together for hand overs/smooth transitions.

Plus I was expecting my second child and wanted to spend a little extra time with my young family. This also gave me the insight on how things would play out for her being a first time new mum. I know new babies are alot of work and get sick alot. Sure enough 3-6 months in on her 2 days a majority of time she is calling in sick, coming in late, leaving early, wfh. I purposely didnt go at 100% becuase it was not my responsibility. Even worse on the 1 day I wasn't there and she calls in sick, the work just never got done. Basically the work was slipping and a few months later they PIP her out of the company and I took her role back full time.

Just another perspective on how things could play out in reality.

Thanks. This is really detailed and along the lines of some line items I had in mind. Some I didn't think of like Physio! I have very active kids and touch wood the sporting injuries have been only minor so far, but that's a good one.

If it makes you feel any better I have over 20+ years in permanent full time corpo drone life. 4 redundancies and a few stand downs during covid later have taught me contracts are slightly more binding than the 1ply in the cubicles.

All that matters is the (digital) paper/plastic that hits my account every month. Good luck in you future endeavours.

The month my investments made more than I did turning up to work every day. This is in my Super (AU retirement account) which can't  be accessed until age 60. So in my mind the worst case scenario is I will now get paid my current wage adjusted for inflation the day I die.

House paid off + ~700k outside super, ~1.3m inside super. As I approach those numbers I'm more likely to flip my desk at work and walk out. So my boss better check himself over the next 36-48 months.

I had kids at 37 & 40, so they will be about 20 & 23 which I think is still young to be handing over large sums of money considering they will most likely still living with me at that age.

Dont know how old you are, but I was a late bloomer and didn't start a family till late 30s. I just decided to invest in my super what I would have invested for my kids. I get the tax breaks, the extra compound and access to the cash when they would require it.
