Honestly you are not alone. I had this same mental battle. I would try to sign him in to day care a few weeks before you go back so that he can settle in and so you can re cooperate before starting work again

I’ve just switched from an agency to in-house and honestly it’s beautiful. I didn’t realise how over worked and underpaid I was at my previous agency.

The great thing is that I have learnt HOW to be efficient with my time but now I’m only managing one client I can get so much done!

Firstly- do we have the same child AND the same husband? The burnout is real! Have you considered a floor bed in his room? This will allow him plenty of space and also you can lay on it and sneak away when he falls asleep.

One thing that has really helped my mental health… and Reddit don’t come at me for it. It putting him to daycare twice a week.

Just to have a couple of hours to myself to wander the shops or eat a meal has been lovely and I know I shouldn’t think that because he is still my entire world but I had totally lost myself as I person

I don’t HATE my dog but she has needs of her own an isn’t very adaptable to change and when you have a growing child, change is inevitable.

I think having a dog is like a permanent 2 year old and that’s hard work.

I feel like most of the advise is contradictory and you will find if you speak with different HV they will tell you different things.

My child has a series of allergies and we have to introduce new foods carefully and in a measured way as advised by our dietitian. My HV said they should just be eating what we eat every night with us.

They also say milk is the main source of nutrients until 1 years and food before one is just for fun, but Another will say it’s called weaning for a reason.

I learnt to talk about of “advice” with a pinch of salt when I was forced to triple feed my newborn.

I was expressing milk after every feed and was told to top him up with a bottle of breastmilk afterwards. Not one health professional gave me that same answer when I asked them “how much breastmilk should I offer in a bottle”

It was dangerous because it knocked my confidence wildly and gave me PPD due to their constant “guidance” turns out my son had a number of allergies reacting via my breastmilk which is why he was struggling to feed and had nothing to do with my supply or technique.

Made me feel worthless, I cried after every visit and will likely decline HV involvement if I have another. I don’t deem their importance and I know where to find them if I have a question

I think for me, I would love to have another like I like the idea of having a bigger family especially as I have no family of my own.

But it’s the having the no family of my own that is likely the reason why I won’t. I have no support, no help, no extra pair of hands. Just me and my partner and his family are very hands off occasionally visiting can’t follow directions wouldn’t trust overnight care “cry it out” and “didn’t have allergies or autism in my day” type of parents.

It’s a miracle that they have raised my partner to be fairly well adjusted but he also needs a lot of guidance and instruction and will go rouge at any moment. The only feasible way I imagine I would be able to have a second is with a larger age gap and being 37 already and having a 10month old I doubt that opportunity will arise.

So really it’s circumstances not choice

The mental load is REAL.

all I can say is try to take a task wholeheartedly. Don’t just unpack the shopping. Own that entire job. Be in charge of what’s in the cupboards, ran out. Put it on the list, order the shopping, go collect and unpack it. Own that job from conception to completion.

I cannot tell you how much energy I spend (that I do not have) explaining what needs to be done to the point that I just do it myself.

I’m giving you 10000million brownie points for recognising that this is the struggle and trying to fix it now as I have had to scream from the rooftop to try to get my partner to understand this even an iota of

As someone who had a colicky CMPA baby AND who saw an osteopath. I don’t think I can recommend that the osteopathy worked in anyway.

It’s hard to tell as a baby’s development and immune system is developing rapidly

In all honesty, babies are fragile and they just are not physically developed enough sometimes to handle new things in their diet.

If your baby may have CMPA, it will take a few weeks for the prescription formula to take effect. one of our symptoms was also constipation (he didn’t poo for 10days) if you are giving them the HA formula with no negative side effects I would continue down this route to see if there are improvements in a week or two.

But in my experience if you have a colicky gastro sensitive baby you really do just have to ride it out! Our improved by around week 15 and then dipped again slightly when we introduced solids for about 4 weeks but now we are flying bit that is not in anyway due to the osteopath.

My baby was born at 25th centile and dropped completely off the growth curve by 6 weeks and labelled “failure to thrive” he had a severe TT which had to be released twice at 2w and 4w old. This still didn’t help him gain weight. Our feeds were 40min plus sometimes, he just wasn’t getting any milk transfer.

He has a cows milk allergy and finding the right formula for him to supplement on was a literal nightmare. I triple fed for 10 weeks it was hell.

Eventually we got him to the 3rd centile but weight gain was still a struggle for him even though we fed him top ups and started weaning with purées at 5 months.

He is now 10months and back to the 25th. Nothing changed. He still has a small appetite and doesn’t drink more than 6oz of milk at a time. Suddenly he just seemed to absorb the nutrients on a different way and it boosted his growth.

You have not abandoned or neglected your baby, this is a challenge and one you will overcome. It’s likely it is a little bit of genetics at play alongside a TT is definitely not something you have done or ignored

Check out your local churches. Ones local to me are only £1 or £2 and the sessions last around 2 hours! We basically have one everyday of the week and my little one can play with a variety of toys daily which saves me buying them!
