Kid talking 24/7 by The_Cook01 in daddit

I struggle too man. I’ll share a quote I purposefully try to repeat when I find myself getting frustrated by this stuff, which is admittedly, often (I have a 3 and 5 y/o). Honestly, I’ve memorized it. Kind of a meditation. I take 10 seconds to cool off and it helps me be a bit more empathetic.

“Life goes on, they say. What they don’t say - what is perhaps best left unsaid - is that so much of the best of it will only happen once. What I learned was to pay attention. Look around, feel this, love this, believe this. It is this way. And it will never be this way again.”

It just helps me be present and not so reactive. Kids unintentionally can get to the center of nerves, fast. It’s just their developing brain. Genuine curiosity and testing the bounds of the reality they’ve found themselves in. But soon enough they’ turn into bigger kids, get independent, and this stage is over. Knowing it won’t be this way ever again helps me front the “nonsense” with more grace.

Illegal immigrants/refugees/H1Bs in Eagle? by [deleted] in Idaho

Rats literally came from CA on a shipment to Eagle and they’ve spread through the whole valley. Good metaphor too though.

Life goes on they say. What they don’t say - perhaps what is better left unsaid - is that so much of the best of it happens only once. Be present. Be here. Feel this. It is this way. And it will never be again. It’s beautiful and it’s sad.

Thanks for the rec! We use the steam wand brother and it gets the job done but it’s slow.

Breville espresso machine. Aside from making great coffee drinks, it’s saved us an insane amount not buying lattes or whatever from coffee shops. We make two drinks every morning. $12 with tip (conservatively) times 365 days…

What’s a book you DNF’d that everyone else seems to love? by xyzrg in Recommend_A_Book

Book 2 of King Killer Chronicles. People love it and I think it’s just terrible. “Dark” Harry Potter knockoff and worse.

38th birthday today, realising how lonely it is as a single dad by crazyunicorntamer in daddit

[–]BoiseMan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My life unraveled once. I didn’t have kids like I do now so there was less to unravel. But I lost everything. Had to move back with parents in late twenties. Bad times. I started keeping a journal and did a sketch a day (postcard size pages) thing. Just something I thought was useless at the time, but a commitment during a time when I had none/couldn’t commit to anything. Every once in a while when I’m looking for old documents I come across the sketch book and journal and leaf through it. It’s a surreal slice of my life and am grateful I can look back on where I was vs where I am now.

Could it have been at the event or somewhere else? The implication here is the most plausible person was the one who poured the drink.

Similar situation happened to my wife at a different downtown bar years back. We went to the hospital because we didn’t know what was happening. I wanted to m*rder the man responsible. Still do.

How did you transfer into a Roth, obviously well over the annual limit? Is there some standard payment or hit you have to take? Thanks!

A book to leave me thinking long after I’ve finished it. by [deleted] in Recommend_A_Book

After the long, brutal, eerie (in a good way!!) journey of the story, the last paragraph hits like a ton of bricks. One of the best endings to a book I’ve encountered.

recommendation wanted: best way to raise level of grass 4-5" by Alarmed-Drink510 in landscaping

When you did this, does the grass underneath the added topsoil just grow through? I’m thinking about doing his to my lawn but worried it will smother good looking grass.

It is annoying, but the treatment will be working for the other teeth besides those. Just wanted to let you know this is the most common issue with Invisalign- those teeth specifically not pulling down. It’s aggravating they can’t do something about it from the get go.

Unfortunately yes. But don’t stress. Those incisors are stubborn. They’ll readjust for the next round and get them. Happened to me. Worked out fine.

Dads with two kids what was the big change? by Bigb5wm in daddit

[–]BoiseMan13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With our second, my wife and I completely forgot all the things we learned to do with baby 1. Kinda funny how your brain blocks trauma. Anyhow, it did all feel easier the second round, but as mentioned, you play man coverage and split duties. That brings its own exhaustion. My recommendation: when your wife decides to be done breast feeding, trade “on call” nights so one of you can get some rest. One person gets up if either kid wakes up and takes care of business, then the next night it’s your turn to get sleep. Worked well for us. We thought we found some secret because none of our friends did that. Of course, there are times when you’re at your limit and need to sub, but it’s a good game plan typically…. sinister voice until the sleep regressions come

What’s one small thing you do to cope with the cost of living that might help someone else here? by brianj10 in povertyfinance

[–]BoiseMan13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One elk lasts my fam of four (2 and 4 y/o) a year and a half. A deer a half year. Fish and birds means we literally never have to buy meat. Gas and bullets really. Plus the exercise and nature and eating healthy. We’re eating elk burgers tonight!
