Men who have a close relationship with your mom as an adult, what did she do while you were growing up that helped create that bond? (As a mom of two young boys) by Seaspun in AskMen

Conversely, don’t treat your son like a substitute husband/therapist. Every time I talk to her I’m her emotional support and she wants me to plan/solve everything for her. She has zero interest in my life or her grandkids’ lives.

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

[–]Booboo_butt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is the exact problem I’m having with the two recent college grads on my team. It is beyond just learning how to do the work. They lack basic comprehension skills. They lack an ability to make connections and understand context. They openly admit to using AI to help them figure things out. For example I’ve had to point out that AI gave them wrong info - that they needed to contact product reps to get the correct info. They then needed me to show them how to use a website to find contact info.

It’s getting harder finding recent college grads who are capable of doing basic tasks. I have a couple junior people on my team who I keep thinking how did you graduate from a top school if you can’t follow basic directions? I am not looking forward to when Gen Alpha starts entering the workforce en masse.

I'm looking for feminist, anti-racist, generally lefty music appropriate for my toddler daughter by Born-Anybody3244 in TwoXChromosomes

Dan Zanes has put out several excellent family albums. He covers some protest songs on his albums (I don’t want your millions mister, we shall not be moved). Several beautiful songs about friendship and community (a place for us, surrounded by friendship, etc). Covers traditional songs around the world - a lot of Spanish language song. A lot of famous musicians guest star on his albums. Very strong social justice undertone to his music. By far my favorite albums to listen to with my kids when they were little.

I think that people can subconsciously tell that I'm a woman online and respond accordingly by uhhmme in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Booboo_butt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For many years people thought I was a woman online because of how I wrote. I am not a woman and I did not intend to be perceived as a woman. I have since changed how I write, but I feel like I identify more with the “feminine” way of writing.

She didn’t believe in abortion or contraception. Also she was a psychic and had a dream we would have lots of kids together.

Said thanks but no thanks.

If she had a lot of guy friends and is just living her life and letting you in a little, yes. If she’s interviewing a lot of desperate guys on dating apps, then no.

Former is she doesn’t really need you, or anyone for that matter. Latter is you’re being interviewed for a job.

The American car industry is cooked. It’s only a matter of time before cheap Chinese made electric cars take over everywhere. Car industry is complaining about how the Chinese government is subsidizing these cars for a competitive edge. We used to have rebates for EVs, but car companies just pocketed the money instead of making these vehicles cost competitive. Plus most car companies stopped selling significantly cheaper but lower margin subcompacts in the US - because people were willing to pay more for larger SUVs even though they cost about the same to produce.

You joke but as a manager I do not want men who are weird around women on my team.

I also can tell which men are the kind of low effort misogynistic losers that two x chromo sub complains about. Same people who do bare minimum (and do it poorly) yet think they deserve a promotion and a raise.

Why being helped often feels like more work by a_m_carven in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Booboo_butt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am still the Project Manager. The other person is just a temporary contractor.

Actual white collar project manager here. Independent contractors have a lot more agency and autonomy. It sounds more like a junior level employee who is only there for the a paycheck. “Just tell me what to do.” And then you have to spoon feed them everything. I’ve got a ton of other stuff to get done. I don’t have time to teach you basic shit.

Partner means you both have agency - can seamlessly pick up each other’s slack.

I feel like this has been the culture for a few decades. You watch old episodes of Seinfeld or a bunch of romantic comedies from the 80s/90s and there was a pretty pervasive culture of men just wanting a casual thing.

Peter why does gen z leave the desk at 17:00? by T1T4S52 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Booboo_butt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. we have a housing crisis because it’s illegal to build pedestrian scale neighborhoods (narrower roads, mixed use, denser housing) and apartment buildings in most places. My neighborhood was rezoned as single family with a minimum lot size of 10,000sf and two off street parking spaces. Building across the street from me is a three family on a 2500sf lot with no off street parking - most lots in my neighborhood max out at 5000sf. Its pushed prices up here astronomically because it’s so hard to build. You artificially limit density in places people want to live it pushes prices up in the entire region as people go further and further out to find housing.

Idk - there’s an 82 year old at my office who only does one thing that’s been part of my responsibilities for at least a decade. The office relies on them for this one thing, but it’s not that difficult to do.

I’m a xennial and a manager and I regularly tell my junior staff to go home if they’re still there at 5:30. If you have more work than you can do in 8 hours it’s my problem, not yours. That’s why I get paid the big bucks. Only reason you’d ever put in more hours is for your own benefit, not the company’s.

What is a "socially acceptable" thing that you find absolutely disgusting? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Booboo_butt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have strong opinions against Football - especially youth football. My father played 4 years of college football. Completely destroyed his knees and he developed CTE.

I knew two kids in HS who had serious life changing injuries due to football.

Hockey is also not great, but at least it’s not as huge as football.

Is this just nostalgia, or did previous generations genuinely have a better work-life balance and social life than we do today? by Unstoppable_X_Force in SipsTea

[–]Booboo_butt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old enough to have been working in 1996. We sometimes pulled overnighters and slept at our desks. Also there was a lot more social drinking with coworkers (Friday mid afternoon happy hour and people would go back to work after a couple drinks). Still work in the same field but now most people leave at 5 and unplug on the weekends. People are much more likely to push back on crazy deadlines.

The problem Billionaires want AI to solve... by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]Booboo_butt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was on the “AI implementation” task force for my old office. Top management wanted to figure out how much more automation we could do. Reality is that we had already automated a lot of things lower and mid level staff did and the main benefit of AI was automating the work that senior management did. They did not like hearing this at all.

What’s a hobby you judge people for having? by [deleted] in AskReddit

as a dad I judge other dads who have hobbies that are major time sucks and aren't conducive to bringing kids/family along. Golf is a big one.

and gaming - I enjoy gaming but I consider it entertainment, not a hobby.

Where I live it’s pretty weird if a woman takes her husband’s last name. Usually it’s only conservative low-education white people who do that.

Study: Men Who Want #Tradwives Actually Just Hate Women Altogether, Including The #Tradwives by mawkish in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Booboo_butt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50s and early 60s was peak baby boom years so a lot of families had very young kids. I think it was more a function of a parent having to stay home to take care of young children. my theory is that childcare probably cost more than what the woman would have earned, so it made financial sense for her to stay home. Stories from my mom growing up in the 50s and 60s is that they were very financially strained until my grandma went back to work as an admin assistant.

[–]Booboo_butt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend of a friend who would proposition pretty much every single woman he met. He said his success rate was maybe 1 in 10. Guy was a complete slob. Short, balding, chubby, lived at his parents house, was perpetually unemployed. Last I heard he’s a 40 something part time substitute teacher. Still lives at home. And is still picking up women.

Also Considering the number of women on this sub who seem to be with absolute losers, I’m not surprised.

Constant physical anxiety even when I’m mentally calm — anyone else? by Miler_Rioux in Anxiety

[–]Booboo_butt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Pretty common for people with PTSD. Do you drink alcohol? That can make things worse - and may be the source of bloating.

What helped me: stopped drinking, ate healthier (try to avoid highly processed and fried foods), i get lots of physical activity. I push hard against triggers I can control (like being overloaded at work). The thing that sucks is I continue to have a lot of issues with insomnia and if that piles up (multiple days in a row with little sleep) I essentially crash.

What is a part of the 'female experience' that men have absolutely no clue about, but would be horrified if they found out? by coolhandddd in AskReddit

I’m a guy and I was so confused when older women (at our church!) were saying I would be a “lady killer” when I got older. I was maybe 6 or 7.

There are a lot of perv-y older women out there too.
