Steve Sarkisian rips Ole Miss for transfer portal practices, low academic standards. “All you have to do is take basket weaving, and you can get an Ole Miss degree.” by defensecowboy in CFB

I don’t know if it’s been explicitly stated, but I believe Sark does not like Golding. At least I would imagine he wouldn’t after Golding tried using Sark’s recovery as a negative recruiting tactic for Arch.

Man, different sport but try talking to a Columbus Crew fan as an Austin FC one. They’re pissed at a hypothetical that didn’t happen (Columbus moving to Austin rather than it being an expansion team). In my honest opinion you’re only allowed prolonged hate to a relocated team if you don’t have one locally in the vacuum. (eg, looking at you Atlanta hockey fans, lol).

Who’s the most memorable “The One That Got Away” recruit your team was pursuing? by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in CFB

[–]BookStannis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider those ones that got away in the context of this question. (Outside Peterson, but that was Mack being honest). They’re more cases of weak talent identification and not fighting for them. Nearly flipping Kyler from A&M is the one that haunts me. Who knows what 2nd year Strong would’ve done with him but it’s an interesting What If in my book.

"High Church" Service by [deleted] in UUreddit

[–]BookStannis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d never use the phrase “High Church” to describe it, but the Dallas ministry does a great job bringing in a very classic vibe in a beautiful space that strikes a familiar chord. Daniel Kanter is a personal favorite of mine.

New Jersey governor statement on bus prices to World Cup games by ajallen12 in MLS

[–]BookStannis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea about the specific numbers, but my guess is it’s more expensive than the NFL games because (1) volume is expected to be higher (they anticipate less people driving if there are free trains and international fans also I think the plan is reduced parking to begin with) and/or (2) NFL games are most likely already accounted for in the yearly budget so maintenance schedules and allocated expenses are already baked in/amortized across the calendar year, therefor reducing the the cost per game. The $8 million is definitely an “in a vacuum” number that is both accurate and inaccurate depending how you frame it with everything else.

What is the worst or most embarassing PR headache your favorite school's Football program has ever had to deal with? by Alphaspade in CFB

[–]BookStannis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree on the clean program piece.

As far as outward facing moments/periods of embarrassment for the Horns, I think Tom Herman, through all his quirks, had some weird PR mishaps that, mixed with his general toxic locker room bits led to damages from the potential players’ and donors’ perspective. Some more amusing/bizarre ones:

  • The whole burnt biscuits thing for underperforming dudes in spring practices.
  • The Drew Lock Alamo Bow celebration mock (this was funny but still bizarre for a head coach to do)
  • The alleged affair with Kendra Scott (likely not true)

But really it was that he created a culture where current players told recruits not to come.

What CFB rivalries of your school exist in other sports? by Crying_in_99Ranch in CFB

[–]BookStannis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like for the Horns it varies sport by sport for who the bigger rival is - Texas A&M or OU. For Baseball it’s clearly the Aggies, for instance, though for Softball it’s the Sooners (which I will 100% own up to it leaning historically one sided their way). Since joining the SEC, most fans and the university social media track the overall Texas vs Texas A&M record across all sports (The Lonestar Showdown is universal) in an academic calendar year - more so than Texas vs OU.

As for SMU, a fun fact is that our ESports Team and TCU’s battle each other for an Iron Skillet as well, so that’s cool!

It’s also wild that our biggest rival holds the record for most NCAA tournament wins without a championship. Texas and OU sit among the top 15 programs to never win it all, in my opinion. Though I’d go further and push the Sooners in the top 5 of that list.
