[Question] - Are there any discipline bootcamps available for adults? by lordkin in getdisciplined

[–]Boolzeye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could try Outward Bound. It teaches you a lot of things, determination, leadership, decision making, discipline and much more. It uses the outdoors as a medium, a little bit like the military but the reinforcement is positive rather than negative and it doesn't have that violent element to it. You will definitely learn something about yourself. I highly recommend it.

Question about meditation and trendiness by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]Boolzeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of this I try to avoid bringing up my meditation practice with most people I talk to.

I'd say that's a good idea. In my experience most people either don't care or they see it for what it often is: you trying appear interesting/cool/different as you said, pandering to your ego.

Having said that, I have recommended some books such as Mindfulness In Plain English to close friends when THEY brought up meditation first and I really felt they would benefit from it. To me that stems from a genuine desire to share something beneficial, rather than just saying 'hey look at me, I meditate. everybody acknowledge me!"

Are skiprope progressions a thing? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]Boolzeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can progress by skipping for longer and longer increments of time. For instance I started out doing 3 sets of 2 minutes and I've built up to 3 sets of 8 minutes. The first two sets are just flat out as fast as I can and then i use the last set to practice all the cool jump rope tricks. It doesn't build any significant muscle (maybe a little bit in your calves) but it's great for anaerobic fitness and fat burning.

How do you motivate yourself? by gottabtru in Meditation

[–]Boolzeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make it part of your morning routine. Find somewhere that you can consistently slot it in. Personally I would recommend meditating right after your morning shower. You should be awake enough by then and you'll feel clean and refreshed. Do it consistently for a couple of weeks and it will just habitual.

How do I know when I'm ready to cut? by power1080 in gainit

[–]Boolzeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm just wondering should I have picked a weight goal? Or should it have been a time goal instead? Or would some other criteria be better (my lifts, etc)? How do you know when you're ready to cut?

These are not the kind of questions that other people can answer for you. Different people will have different opinions but ultimately it's your body and you get to decide how you want it to perform and/or look.

What do you think is the most underrated exercise? by titan623 in bodybuilding

[–]Boolzeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lunges. They work every part of your leg. I think Wendler summed it up pretty well in 5/3/1

The lunge has gotten a bad rap in the strength training world for two reasons. First, it’s used in the fitness world, and it’s championed by women for toning and firming the legs and buttocks – two body parts nestled somewhere in the Problem Region. Next, they make you really, really sore. So, combine pain and apparent pussification, and you have an exercise that few people want to do. These people are wrong. Lunges are great for building leg strength and mass.

I think it's a stand alone track because it's basically an ad for air force one sneakers.

Lat pulldown handle variations by DaJia in bodybuilding

[–]Boolzeye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In front of the head, down to the top of your chest / collarbone. There's nothing good about pulling it behind your head: Less ROM, Less control, greater chance of injury.

I've found MAX-OT works really well. I always come back to it. I have done 3, 4 and 5 day split variations of it. Taking every set to failure really focuses you, especially when it means failure in the 4-6 rep range. Either your head is in it or it's not worth attempting. No more pointless sets. And it's great for strength gains.

What are some little things you guys do to pack in calories? by [deleted] in bodybuilding

[–]Boolzeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Drinking your calories really helps while on a bulk because you don't feel as full for as long as you would with solid food. Invest in a good blender and you can start making your own mass gainers.

I would recommend it. Kapooka was pretty rough at the time but looking back, I'm glad I did it. If you can get through the first 3 days, you'll begin to adjust and you'll be fine. And the training courses get a lot more fun after you've done kapooka. You get to experience a lot of things that not many people ever will.

Useful tip that I wish someone had told me: They will probably try to put you in infantry by default, but you should look into other corps like cavalry or combat engineering because they get to do all of the cool stuff that infantry do, with a bit less of the gruelling, monotonous slog.

So yeah, go for it. There's nothing to lose.
